Mercury Releases MultiCore Plus SDK for PS3
Allows for supercomputing application development on the Playstation 3.
Mercury Computer Systems, a leading pioneer of third-party Cell-based solutions, has announced the availability of its MultiCore Plus SDK (base package) for Sony's Playstation 3 console. Available through Terra Soft Solutions for $399 per seat license, MultiCore Plus for PS3 allows programmers/developers to become familiar with massively multicore development in the context of a scaled-down HPC environment. The tools run on top of Yellow Dog Linux, and work done on the PS3 via MultiCore Plus is portable to larger external server/workstation setups, allowing the PS3 to provide a cost-effective foothold for development commencement.
The included Trace Analysis Tool and Library (TATL) allows programmers to detect bottlenecks and view/track multicore interactions, while the MultiCore Framework (MCF) reduces system overhead and overlaps data movement and computation.
Mercury has also announced that it will make a scientific algorithm library add-on package available to licensees of MultiCore Plus for PS3, including with it over 700 functions for compute intensive applications.
