Além disso, não estão aí as PS2.
Fonte: gamasutra.com (este ja tem credibilidade?)Analyst Michael Pachter at Wedbush Morgan has released his preview of the NPD U.S. game charts for November, and is forecasting sales of $785 million, up 12% compared to last year.
The report, suggests $345 million in sales contribution from new platforms (PS3, Wii, 360, PSP and DS), representing year-over-year growth of $196 million, or 131%. However, current generation software sales, it's suggested, may be $440 million, reflecting year-over-year decrease of $112 million (-20%).
For hardware, Wedbush states: "Consumers appear willing to purchase compelling content for current generation consoles in spite of the recent launches of the unobtainable PS3 and Wii. Through October, NPD data shows that Xbox 360 hardware sales in the U.S. were 2.9 million units, averaging approximately 250,000 units monthly for the last six months."
Going forward, Pachter comments: "We expect sales of 750,000 Xbox 360 hardware units in November, and between 1.5 - 2 million units in December. Sell through of Xbox 360 hardware could be higher if the supply situation for the PS3 continues to lag Sony's promised 1.2 million units by year end, with many holiday gift givers likely substituting purchases of the 360 in place of the PS3."
However, a major note of caution is sounded over next-gen console pricing: "Once supply and demand of the PS3 and Wii are in balance (expected some time after April 2007), we think that hardware unit sales will be more modest than they were in the analogous period of 2002, when console prices averaged under $200. In our view, once hardcore gamers have
obtained their next generation consoles, the higher average prices will be an impediment to rapid sell-through, and we expect cycle-to-cycle declines of 10% or more to persist through the summer of 2007."
Who's threatened of the newly-launched PS3 and Wii? Definitely not Microsoft. The company is still confident that they will be able to meet their projected goal of selling 10 million Xbox 360s by the year 2007.
According to Christopher Liddell, chief financial officer, "Revenue growth will continue to be a strong focus for us... And we have had two major product launches which will help." And the odds seem to be working for them this holiday season. With six million units already reportedly sold as of the end of September, it sure looks as if there's no stopping Microsoft from hitting that 10-million mark.
Undoubtedly, the company will take advantage of the lack of supply of the Wii and the PS3 in North America. As for Europe, well, there's only the Wii to compete with them as the PS3 won't be around 'til March next year. Well, it certainly pays to get a good headstart from everybody else, don't it?
Ahh, business analysts: can't live with them, can't live without them. Anybody could be an analysts and there are times that they make sense and there are times when you just wanna strangle them.
Since November 2006 just bade us farewell, you can't blame them for coming up with their monthly reports, it's their job in the first place. But moving on, Arcadia Investments just released their November report and they mentioned that console sales for this period topped 3.2 million units.
This number is equivalent to an almost 50% increase on hardware sales. Also, software sales are up 20%. According to their report, in the next-gen console arena, Xbox360 unit sales topped a minimum of 500,000 units. Retailers mentioned that this increase could be attributed to the strong sales of Gears of War and the news about the supply shortages for the PS3 and Wii.
As for the PS3, its available quantity was probably less than 150,000 launch units, with roughly an additional 50,000 units shipped for November 2006. Arcadia says that the low tie ratio for the Sony next-gen console could be blamed on the eBay re-sale fiasco which resulted to a less than 0.5 software units sold per PS3.
In layman's term - people are not so into PS3 games because there are some people who will re-sell it in eBay anyway. But Arcadia adds that 600,000 PS3 total sale for the year is reasonable. (See, at this moment, you don't know whether you want to listen to them or make them analysts shut up).
On the Wii side, they said that they sold 500,000 units with a tie ratio of about two per console. Meaning Wii buyers usually buy two Wii games and 75% of those Wii buyers opted to go for The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.
Now on to the handhelds. DS unit sales reached 600,000 units putting it on the right road to exceed expectations, while PSP unit sales reached 350,000.
You'll get a lot of numbers in this post, but let's start with the ones that are related to this posts title. Let's talk about console sales. The numbers below are given by the Research firm, NPD Group.
The little dual screened juggernaut, the DS sold 918,000 units in November, bringing U.S. sales to a total of 8.1 million units. The old and yet still hot PS2 followed as the second-best with 664,000 units sold. It's sales probably boosted by Square Enix's FFXII that sold at 896,000 units and has a sales record of $49 million. Third place for systems is held by the never say die GameBoy Advance with 641,000 units.
Despite Gears of War being number one at the software sales charts having sold a million units and having earned around $61.5 million, Microsoft's Xbox 360 is at fourth this November with 511,000 units sold. However despite being fourth this November, overall the Xbox 360, has a life-to-date US sales number of 3.8 million units.
Despite having it's launch date mid November, The Wii sold 476,000 units for the month. The PSP follows the Wii, having sold around 412,000 units during November. Hopefully now that MGS: Portable Ops is out, people will enjoy running around to check out WiFi spots. Honestly, that soldier recruitment thing that the new MGS has reminds us of the "old CD collection now has a use" effect that the PS1's Monster Rancher generated. So does this mean more PSP sales? We'll check the post holiday season numbers when the time comes.
So who needs to make shipments? The PS3 sold only 197,000 units this month, this despite Sony's promise to have 400,000 units available on launch day in the U.S.
Here's what NPD Analyst Anita Frazier has to say about the numbers: "It's just such overall good news that bodes very well for the health of this industry."
