Última edição:
saiu o patch 1.25

Bioware has released a massive new patch for the award winning RPG Neverwinter Nights. As usual the patch is available via in-game auto updater and weighs in at 6.9Mbyte. This patch does not only fix bugs but adds new content such as new creatures for multiplayer sessions or an update to the Miles Sound System and adresses issues with the Neverwinter Aurora Toolset.

Acabei agora a campanha single player e estou a pensar em começar a jogar online. Alguém conhece servidores fixes (de preferencia nacionais)? Ou melhor ainda alguém aqui joga com uma party regular?

impressões do Shadows of Undrentide

The first retail expansion pack for Neverwinter Nights is only about a week away from hitting store shelves, and we were lucky enough to get our hands on an advance copy. Shadows of Undrentide contains a brand-new campaign spanning more than 20 hours and featuring new locations such as snow-covered regions and ancient ruins. Undrentide also includes new monsters such as the cockatrice and the sphinx, new character feats and skills, and enhancements to the Aurora toolset for those who wish to create their own new adventures.

Shadows of Undrentide's campaign is not a continuation of the original Neverwinter Nights' storyline, so we began by creating a brand-new character for the proceedings. We noticed a few new character portrait and voice options are now available, and we also noticed another of the game's new features: a number of "prestige classes," high-level character classes with fairly steep requirements but some significant benefits. First-level characters cannot belong to these prestige classes, such as arcane archer and blackguard (essentially an anti-paladin), but they give you something to aspire to, whether you choose to play as a morally good character or an evil one.

Toward that end, Shadows of Undrentide's campaign offers ample opportunities to role-play, even from the get-go. Like Neverwinter Nights before it, Undrentide packs in a lot of dialogue, and you'll frequently be able to interject with a variety of comments from your character's perspective. In one early quest, we were implored by a woman to save her husband and baby from a pack of kobolds that had broken into her home. We rushed inside the house to find the husband dead, though we managed to recover the child by offering a gem to a particularly greedy kobold in trade. We then returned to the woman and told her we'd recovered the baby safely. Then, recalling that our fighter was of evil alignment, we figured we'd lie and tell the woman that her husband was also alive and well. (Another option was to announce that we had decided to keep the baby, but we weren't feeling that evil.) But our lie didn't quite work, since our fighter wasn't an especially persuasive character. The woman caught us in the lie and ran for the guards, assuming we were the ones who had killed her mate.

Like Neverwinter Nights, Shadows of Undrentide is a single-character adventure, though you can pick up a henchman. A few are available to choose from early on, and they can balance out your main character's abilities--for example, we chose to travel alongside a thief, who could disarm traps and pick locks for us while we handled the dirty work.

Your main character in Undrentide is the favored student of a highly experienced dwarven adventurer. One day, his home--a training ground for adventurers such as yourself--is besieged by kobolds. Your master is struck down, and four of his mostly highly treasured artifacts are stolen. The game's main quest revolves around recovering these artifacts and discovering who or what is behind the unprovoked attack.

Shadows of Undrentide retails for about $25 and will be available soon. Look for a full review soon.

preview do Hordes of the Underdark

BioWare's Neverwinter Nights received a nice shot to the arm from its first expansion pack, Shadows of Undrentide. Adding a number of new features and offering a tighter story than the original, the expansion gave players a great adventure to go on and offered module makers more tools for their palettes. The next expansion pack, Hordes of the Underdark, looks like it'll go one better. It will offer a story centering on the drow (and let's face it, people love those naughty dark elves) as well as many new features, but it will also serve up superior graphics than the original or the first expansion.

In my first preview of Hordes of the Underdark, I went over many of the game's new features. At Atari's recent editors' day I got to see the game in action and learned more about its six new prestige classes. In this update, I'll concentrate on the visual improvements, the new classes, and further story details.

Though I went into the demo aware of many of the new additions, I was surprised at the improvement to the game's visuals. BioWare has let its artist up the polygon count, and the results are awesome. Though it's not complete, the graphics I saw thus far are noticeably better than the ones in NWN or Shadows. Another nifty addition is that you are now allowed to unlock the camera, giving the game a perspective akin to a third-person action title. The combination of the improved graphics and the new camera give the game a fresher and more modern look.

One of my favorite additions to Shadows was the six prestige classes it added. They gave players an opportunity for more role-playing and the classes had some really interesting twists. Hordes also offers six new prestige classes. They are the plane shifter, the weapon master, the dwarven defender, the red dragon disciple, and the champion of Torm. The plane shifter can change into numerous creatures, including some otherworldly beasts. Similar to a kensei, the weapon waster is a stout fighter with ridiculous power attacks. Dwarven defenders are like holy dwarven champions with boosted attacks and killer defensive abilities. The champion of Torm is a super paladin that worships the mortal-champion-turned-lawful-good-deity. The dragon disciple is the most unusual and interesting prestige class. These characters have wings, can breath fire, and have many of the same immunities as dragons.

I also learned a bit more about the game's story. Apparently Lloth, the spider goddess worshipped by the drow, has disappeared. Since many drow priestesses draw power and strength from Lloth, the disappearance has caused a power struggle. One drow rebel is able to command an unusual amount of power, and uses it to create an army of drow, mind flayers, and duergar. The motley army attacks Waterdeep and is close to bringing the fabled city down.

In the game's intro, you see the primary villain, Valsharess, hosting a ceremony that reveals your character as the one being that can stop her. In a preemptive strike, she sends soldiers to Waterdeep to kill you before you get too close. You wake up from a dream and immediately notice a drow thief stealing your weapons and armor. The rogue disappears, but more drow attackers arrive. Thankfully, several of your companions from the original NWN and one from Shadows (Deekin, yay!) are there to assist you. After stopping the initial attackers, you must head to the Underdark and face your destiny.

A few other additions include some epic-level monsters and multiple henchmen. Since this expansion is meant for high-level characters, there are creatures meant just for high-level encounters. I got to see a mithral golem and an adamantite golem lay waste to a level-30 character -- ouchie. One super-cool enhancement is the ability to take along two henchmen. While it's not the six-member-party goodness found in Baldur's Gate, having a team of three makes combat more interesting.
