America Has No More Heroes
Exclusive: Ubisoft and Suda 51 team up to unleash the psycho-surreal Wii action game stateside.

September 19, 2007 - Ubisoft on Wednesday revealed exclusively to IGN that it has picked up the rights to publish the anticipated Wii action game No More Heroes in North America. The title will release stateside next February, just two months after the Japanese ship date.

No More Heroes is developed by Grasshopper Manufacture and directed by Suda 51, who also helmed the critically acclaimed GameCube adventure title Killer 7. The brutal endeavor pits players as Travis Touchdown, a hardcore anime fan living in the fictional town of Santa Destroy, who takes it upon himself to murder the world's top assassins so that he can be number one. To accomplish this task, Touchdown must battle 10 "bloodthirsty killers -- all with deep stories of their own," according to Ubisoft.

In No More Heroes, gamers control Touchdown in an open-world environment and can wield his unique beam katana using the Wii remote. Players will be able to slice and dice opponents in gory displays of violence and beat down enemies with a variety of wrestling moves. Like Killer 7 before it, No More Heroes employs a very stylized cel-shaded graphic presentation.

"With No More Heroes, we wanted to create a game that allows players to be able to jump right in and play," said Suda 51, president of Grasshopper Manufacture. "The Wii allows us to create an open world where movement and gameplay feel very natural."

"Ubisoft is excited to be bringing Suda 51's latest adventure to gamers in North America," said Jay Cohen, vice president of publishing at Ubisoft. "Suda 51 is one of the most creative minds in gaming and No More Heroes is shaping up to be a visually stunning and immersive game with an extremely engaging storyline players will no doubt be drawn to."

So what prompted the third party to add No More Heroes to its portfolio? It wasn't a difficult decision, according to Ubisoft's vice president of marketing, Tony Key, who chatted with IGN Wii on the subject. "For Ubisoft, it was a perfect match up. Suda 51 and the developers at Grasshopper Manufacture are extremely talented and creative and what they have developed specifically for the Wii is an incredibly unique game for a mature audience," he said. "Ubisoft is bringing the title to the North American market because we believe there is a viable market for mature games on the Wii platform - an audience that has been underserved up to now." Players worried about content differences between the Japanese and American version of the game can lay their fears to rest. "The game Ubisoft publishes in North America will have all of the content that its Japanese counterpart does. We wanted to make sure that gamers here would not miss out on any of the action or storyline details created by the talented development team in Japan," explained key, adding, "Although the rating is still pending, we expect the game to receive an 'M' for Mature rating." Suda 51 himself has in the past promised that No More Heroes would be just as violent as Manhunt 2.

Ubisoft seems confident that Wii owners are ready for an adult-targeted videogame like Suda 51's latest. Said Key: "No More Heroes fills a gap that exists in the titles available for the Wii in the early part of the year. While the Wii has opened to the door to gamers of various ages and increased casual gaming, there are still a limited number of genres available for the hardcore gamer on the platform.

"Furthermore, No More Heroes is unique in its gameplay - allowing players to combine cool weapons with advanced wrestling moves in their quest to become the world's number one assassin. We've already seen a great deal of anticipation and enthusiasm surrounding No More Heroes and when the Wii owners get their hands on this game in February, they won't be disappointed."

I was very hyped for this game before I came to TGS, and now after playing it, I can say most, if not all of my hype, was justified. I still have a lot of questions about how fun this game will be after the one level I played, but as long as Suda 51 keeps the pace going and the story interesting, this is a must-buy game for me.

We've just had our first play session with a demo of No More Heroes, the newest action title from Suda 51 of Grasshopper (and Killer 7 fame). While Killer 7 this game isn't, the style and unique gameplay design is likely to delight fans of action games -- plus, it has well-utilized motion control.

Está na altura de os jogos começarem a ser feitos e pensados para o wiimote e não pensados para um comando normal e depois mapeados para o wiimote.

Este jogo é um bom exemplo disso, aquela arma apenas poderia existir com o wiimote e o jogo corre o risco de se tornar num dos maiores jogos desta geração.
 
Lindo, a direcção artística está muito boa :D

Só estou preocupado com o facto de a editora ser a Ubisoft, é que não sei se repararam mas nestes últimos vídeos substituiram o gore por aquelas partículas pretas.

A Ubisoft só é editora para a América (e talvez Europa); essa alteração é porque está a ser mostrado na TGS, no Japão... Jogos como Resident Evil e Ninja Gaiden são sempre censurados no que toca a decapitações e afins, no japão.

o jogo já tem classificação, no ultimo trailer que vi aparece "Cero D"... (maiores de 17) há ainda o rank acima o "Cero Z" (jogos como o Gears of War), eles provavelmente optaram por fazer tone down para o D, tal como a Capcom faz com os Resident Evils.
 
Este titulo, deve ser o jogo que mais me atrai na Wii, é pena que ainda não tenho dinheiro para ela(ainda por cima comprei uma ps2 com um amigo para jogar pes.lol), mas o jogo também só sai para o ano.

No More Heroes: sangue só nas versões ocidentais

Recentemente, durante a Tokyo Game Show 2007, foram exibidas pela Grasshopper Manufacture cenas do jogo de Wii No More Heroes, com uma pequena curiosidade: todo o sangue presente nos primeiros vídeos e imagens do jogo tinha sido retirado. Em entrevista não-oficial, Suda 51, o idealizador do jogo, disse que a causa disso é o fato de que a versão que foi exibida na TGS era a japonesa, que não terá sangue, por diferenças culturais com o Ocidente. Já nas versões americana e européia, segundo ele, o sangue estará presente de forma marcante.

O jogo está com uns pormenores deliciosos mas não era má ideia ter uns quantos shaders, o que salva o grafismo é a direcção artística porque está fraco a vários níveis, principalmente nos efeitos de luz.

Não nego que podiam dar um bump neles, especialmente em alguns locais do jogo... mas, o jogo tem shaders; de facto cel shading já os presupõe, e há zonas que parecem bem mais ricas que estas ultimas imagens, neles. Pena não ser (neste momento) uma constante, no entanto.
