Nokia 6288 - slightly updated 6280

Nokia announce the expected arrival of the successor of the classy 3G slider Nokia 6280. The new WCDMA/GSM enabled Nokia 6288 would again be based on the Series 40 UI and would offer much of the same functionality as its predecessor such as a large 262K colors TFT display with a QVGA (320x240) resolution, main 2 megapixel camera and a secondary VGA one for making video calls, FM radio, miniSD memory card slot. Even the dimensions and the weight of the device are identical to those of the Nokia 6280.

The innovation comes in larger capacity battery (changed from 970 mAh to 1100 mAh) and the 512MB miniSD memory card that Nokia decided to include in the package this time (comparing to the 64MB one that comes with the 6280). The reason for presence of the large capacity memory card is the enhanced video-oriented capabilities of the slider such as video playing, video sharing and video ringtones.

O summerise, Nokia 6288 is considered to be a good all-round mobile phone, with crisp audio quality having enough volume adjustment. The 2 MP camera produces good pictures outdoor but the flash not up to the mark considering the well balanced features of the phone. The flash produces grainy photos and is satisfactory if used for short distances. The music player has an excellent audio quality and adding a audio adapter with a high quality head-phone, gives you the best out of the player, where the ear phones, which come along with 6288, does not have much improvement in the audio effect.

Run your eyes down the specs lists for the 6280 and the 6288, and you'd be forgiven for thinking they're the same phone. The two 3G Nokia sliders do have a whole lot in common -- the dimensions, weight and display size are identical, as are the camera specs, amount of internal memory and applications. So what's the difference between the models? Basically, a firmware upgrade; a few minor design differences (such as altered keypad spacing and a glossy finish); and a larger miniSD card bundled into the pack.
