SNK Announce Slug-fest For Wii

After a long absence from Nintendo's home consoles, SNK is to bring Metal Slug Anthology to the Wii...

SNK's first title for the Wii will be Metal Slug Anthology, a compilation of classic Metal Slug games enhanced to use the 'Wiimote' controller by allowing players to use gestures to control on-screen movement.

Games featured include the original Metal Slug, plus 2, 3, 4, 5 and X. There is no word as yet if the sixth numbered incarnation will feature, however the SNK have said the collection would include "many additional suprises".

The games will retain their original 2D side-scrolling style, though little else is currently known. Specifics are expected next week at E3, where screenshots will also be available. SNK Playmore USA Corporation president Ben Herman commented that "the Wii controller will be used in a new and unique way that enhances the gameplay. Our fans have demanded that we support Nintendo platforms. Let the celebration begin."

Cube To Drop In Price Post-E3?

Retailers are being readied for a possible price drop sometime later this month! Could the Cube's price be about to plummet?

EB stores have apparently recieved blank price stickers from Nintendo with the words "New Low Price" on them - to start using later this month. According to Nintendo, the stickers were apparently sent out so stores will be prepared "if" a price drop is announced.

Logically, however, the stickers and posters will not have been sent out unless it is for a good reason, and a price drop for the GameCube after E3 - after which all focus will be on the Wii - sounds like a good bet to us. No doubt we'll hear more during the show.

Wario To Thieve Online?

The upcoming Wario game for the DS apparently has online play!

Last year, Nintendo revealed it had a new Wario game in the works, entitled Kaitou Wario. The game - now re-named Wario the Thief for an English language release appears to have online play as well. French gaming site Jeux-France have a scan from a GameStop leaflet, which shows a big "Wi-Fi Connection" sticker for the game.

Nintendo is expected to reveal the title in full next week at E3, but until then, you can check out the scan for yourself here!

Spectrobes Announced For DS

The latest Pokémon clone is heading to the DS, courtesy of Buena Vista Games. Meet the Spectrobes!

Producers Buena Vista Games have revealed an exclusive new title for the Nintendo DS based on an original property. Entitled Spectrobes, the new franchise will also have an anime-style TV series and a large-range of merchandise to tie-in.

The game introduces two junior Interplanetary Patrol officers named Rallen and Jeena who learn of strange, prehistoric creatures called Spectrobes that possess special powers. These fossilized Spectrobes hold the key to defeating a vicious and merciless force, known only as the Krawl that threatens to destroy the galaxy. The two heroes embark on a mission to save their galaxy - to do so they must excavate, awaken, train and collect all the Spectrobes they can and battle to defeat the Krawl.

Spectrobes is infused with the edgy, highly stylized look and feel of Japanese anime and manga, and is set to combine original characters, a compelling story and "breakthrough" gameplay. Players will be able to excavate, train and battle with nearly 500 unique creatures - apparently utilising every interactive feature of the Nintendo DS.

Once a creature is 'excavated' using the touch screen portion of the Nintendo DS, the Spectrobe is then awakened and can be used in real-time battles with enemies. Players must collect, train and help their Spectrobes evolve in order to progress and succeed in the game. With highly customizable elements and powers, each Spectrobe is unique to individual game players.

While Nintendo is still dithering with it's own Pokémon titles for the DS, could the Spectrobes steal their fame? Only time will tell....

DS Lite to be priced & dated May 4

Posted May 1st 2006 3:25PM by James Ransom-Wiley

DS LiteDuring a recent podcast, 1UP noted that Nintendo would announce the official price and release date for the DS Lite this Thursday, May 4. The announcement will include the relevant data for the North American launch and will likely reveal a price and date for Europe as well. The DS Lite debuted in Japan this past March for 16,800 yen (just under $150), but due to demand, some distributors pushed the price to 23,300 yen (roughly $200). Current rumors speculate a June release in North America with a $199.99 price tag.

The original Nintendo DS model is now on sale for as low as $119.99. Would you be willing to fork over an additional $80 to go Lite?

Nibris Launch Website
The developers of the upcoming Sadness and Raid over the River have just launched their website, which offers a brief look at their games in progress and details their Nintendo-exclusive philosophy.

"Are you at least 21 years old and don't suffer from a heart condition or a nervous disposition?" the site asks you as you look at their Sadness content - nice! The site can be found at Nibris.net.

Update: Nibris have said that they plan to show the public a trailer for Wii's black and white game "Sadness" sometime between the 10th and 12th of this month. Is it me or do those dates seem familiar...

Nintendo Launches E3 Website

Nintendo is ready for E3, to be held in just a week...and yes, they have the official E3 homepage to prove it.

E3 2006 just may end up going down as the E3 to rule them all...and Nintendo will very likely have the most prominent role to play at the event. Fully recognizing this, the company is preparing a massive flood of DS goodness and Wii revelations and hands-on experiences. To further aid and abet the proliferation of information about their hotly anticipated wares (which will no doubt be coursing over the entire internet), Nintendo is planning to have their official webpage teeming with game information. They will also host a live broadcast of the conference event (however, expect their servers to be hammered mercilessly).

The floodgates will open on the 9th during Nintendo's pre-E3 conference at the cavernous Kodak theatre (home of the Academy Awards). RE will have personnel in place to provide first-hand coverage and expect the rest of us to be working many overtimes to provide up-to-the-minute show revelations. Its almost here, Nintendo fans.

Free DS Rumble Pak With US Hunters

For a limited time, American stores are giving away free rumble paks for the DS with copies of Metroid Prime: Hunters!

American gamers are getting another reason to buy Samus' best-selling DS first-person adventure title this summer, as Nintendo are offering free Nintendo DS Rumble Paks with each copy of the game sold. Fitting into the handheld's GBA cartridge slot, it makes the device rumble when players take hits in the game.

Apparently the offer is on now (at 'select' retailers) but only for a limited time and while supplies last. It's currently unknown as to whether Europe will get the Pak free as well when the game launches this Friday, though it is unlikely as we haven't heard anything as yet. We'll keep you posted.

In a press release sent today, Nintendo announced that on June 11 the DS Lite will be released in North America. The handheld will be priced "as low as $129" which might imply that in addition to a base unit, bundle(s) could be made available. Also provided in the release were key enhancements to the system:

* It's less than two-thirds the size of the original Nintendo DS and more than 20 percent lighter.
* Its two bright screens can be adjusted to four levels to adapt to different lighting conditions and to extend battery power.
* The microphone sits in the center of the unit, and the LED lights are clearly visible whether the unit is open or closed.
* The stylus is 1 centimeter longer and 1 millimeter thicker than the stylus of the original, and slides into a side storage slot.
* The Start and Select buttons were repositioned for easier access.
* A removable cover keeps the Game Boy Advance cartridge slot clear from dust and debris when it's not in use.

Europa é que nada se sabe :P

Rayman Raving Rabbids for Wii, and it’s a launch title!
London, UK - MAY 3, 2006 - Today Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest video game publishers announced plans to release the fourth instalment of the Rayman® franchise, now officially titled Rayman Raving Rabbids™, worldwide in Holiday 2006. Scheduled for current and next-generation video game consoles, Rayman Raving Rabbids™ also joins the line-up as an official launch title for Nintendo’s Wii™, formerly known as Nintendo’s Revolution gaming system, and its innovative controller. Rayman Raving Rabbids™ is being developed by Ubisoft’s award-winning studio in Montpellier, France led by Michel Ancel, creator of the original Rayman game, the critically acclaimed Beyond Good & Evil™ and Peter Jackson’s King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie.

Rayman Raving Rabbids™ marks the return of the iconic video-game hero, Rayman, in his funniest and zaniest adventure ever. When the world of Rayman is threatened by a devastating invasion of crazed, out-of-control bunnies Rayman must rise up against his furry foes to foil their wicked plans. Utilizing an array of amazing new abilities, and with the help of magical creatures, Rayman must break out all the moves to save his world from these delirious bunnies and their hare-raising antics.

“It’s a real pleasure for me to be back working on an all-new Rayman,” said Michel Ancel. “After wrapping up Peter Jackson’s King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie, the team here in Montpellier sat down to talk about having some fun with Rayman and his universe. We are running into a bit of a problem, though, because our game has been invaded by thousands of raving mad and vicious bunnies, who have apparently been preparing this assault since the very first Rayman game. We are now sending an SOS to all motivated gamers to help us get rid of them as fast as possible!”

Key Features:

Combat the Ultra-Crazed Evil Rabbits - Take control of Rayman and his knack for attack to help save his world from the raving rabbids. They are mischievous, insane and completely out of control. There are several types of rabbids each with its own mischievous characteristics.

Master and Ride Creatures - Tame and control various creatures such as sharks, eagles, rhinos, spiders and angelfish. Rayman can master each animal’s unique capabilities to help in his battle against the devious rabbits.

Dress to Impress - Customize and disguise Rayman. Go punk, pop, rock or hip hop to infiltrate the bunnies and foil their devious plans.

Explore the Colorful Fantastic World of Rayman - Explore amazing free-roaming environments and beautiful epic landscapes that mix real and fantastical styles to create a visually stunning experience.

Nintendo gave TIME the first look at its new controller--but before
I pick it up, Miyamoto suggests that I remove my jacket. That turns out
to be a good idea. The first game I try--Miyamoto walks me through it,
which to a gamer is the rough equivalent of getting to trade bons mots
with Jerry Seinfeld--is a Warioware title (Wario being Mario's shorter,
fatter evil twin). It consists of dozens of manic five-second mini
games in a row. They're geared to the Japanese gaming sensibility,
which has a zany, cartoonish, game-show bent. In one hot minute, I use
the controller to swat a fly, do squat-thrusts as a weight lifter, turn
a key in a lock, catch a fish, drive a car, sauté some vegetables,
balance a broom on my outstretched hand, color in a circle and fence
with a foil. And yes, dance the hula. Since very few people outside
Nintendo have seen the new hardware, the room is watching me closely.

It's a remarkable experience. Instead of passively playing the games,
with the new controller you physically perform them. You act them out.
It's almost like theater: the fourth wall between game and player
dissolves. The sense of immersion--the illusion that you, personally,
are projected into the game world--is powerful. And there's an instant
party atmosphere in the room. One advantage of the new controller is
that it not only is fun, it looks fun. When you play with an old-style
controller, you look like a loser, a blank-eyed joystick fondler. But
when you're jumping around and shaking your hulamaker, everybody's
having a good time.

After Warioware, we play scenes from the upcoming Legend of Zelda
title, Twilight Princess, a moody, dark (by Nintendo's Disneyesque
standards) fantasy adventure. Now I'm Errol Flynn, sword fighting with
the controller, then aiming a bow and arrow, then using it as a fishing
rod, reeling in a stubborn virtual fish. The third game, and probably
the most fun, is also the simplest: tennis. The controller becomes a
racket, and I'm smacking forehands and stroking backhands. The sensors
are fine enough that you can scoop under the ball to lob it, or slice
it for spin. At the end, I don't so much put the controller down as
have it pried from my hands.

John Schappert, a senior vice president at Electronic Arts, is
overseeing a version of the venerable Madden football series for
Nintendo's new hardware. He sees the controller from the auteur's
perspective, as an opportunity but also a huge challenge. "Our
engineers now have to decipher what the user is doing," he says. "'Is
that a throw gesture? Is it a juke? A stiff arm?' Everyone knows how to
make a throwing motion, but we all have our own unique way of
throwing." But consider the upside: you're basically playing football
in your living room. "To snap the ball, you 'snap' the remote back
toward your body, which hikes the ball," Schappert says. "No buttons to
press, just gesture a hiking motion, and the ball's in the hands of the
QB. To pass the ball, you gesture a throwing motion. Hard, fast
gestures result in bullet passes. Slower, less forceful, gestures
result in loftier, slower lob passes. It truly plays like nothing
you've ever experienced."

Apesar de já sebermos que o comando faz tudo isso, é bom ver uma review mais in-depth.
Ainda bem que o sujeito teve hipótese de o experimentar tão largamente.

Bom, mas piadas à parte, o artigo tem alguma informação interessante:

MAGIC WAND: It looks like a remote, but Nintendo's new game controller senses a player's hand movement
THE LEADER: Satoru Iwata started as a game designer and rose to become Nintendo's fiercely independent president
ZELDA In the new installment, Twilight Princess, Link fights with sword, bow and boomerang. Aiming is a snap: just point at the enemy and fire away
RAYMAN With the full (and rather odd) name of Rayman Raving Rabbids, it will feature a skewed sense of humor and lots of bloodthirsty bunnies
RED STEEL Nintendo isn't known for violent game play. But in this yakuza-themed shooter, players will live (and die) by both gun and sword
TENNIS The graphics aren't much, but the game play is hilarious. The controller becomes your racket
THE LEGEND: Gaming's answer to Steven Spielberg, Shigeru Miyamoto scored with his first creation, the arcade classic Donkey Kong
NEW DOG, NEW TRICKS In Nintendogs, for the portable Nintendo DS, players train a virtual (but very cute) puppy. It's part of Nintendo's attempt to lure female gamers

After Warioware, we play scenes from the upcoming Legend of Zelda title, Twilight Princess, a moody, dark (by Nintendo's Disneyesque standards) fantasy adventure. a tua primeira imagem nao aparece.. mas tou a gostar imenso deste conceito. será desta que volto a ter uma consola? :)

- $249 Price tag
- Virtual Console
- 3d Controller
- ALWAYS online (console is always online, even when OFF)
- Built in speaker on the controller
