New Xbox360 Game To Require Hard Drive To Play

We do not usually post packshots here as they really serve no purpose, so unless they are notable we refrain. Well oh boy, is this one notable. Certainly not an a-list game, but Football Manager 2006 will require an HDD unit to play the game in any form. No memory card allowed. We guess this goes against MS's claims that you will not need an HDD to play any game.

Browse the Internet on your Xbox 360 !

Anthony Park has designed a nice Windows XP Media Center plugin that allows users to surf the Internet on Media Center Extender devices (the Xbox 360 for example) with a Media Center remote.
Users first create a favorites list as the plugin does not support text entry (yet). However, the MCE Browser does allow users to highlight and navigate to new links. And finally, for those of you browsing from a distance, the program features zoom viewing.

Prey Xbox 360 Port to be Handled By Venom

According to 2K Games' original announcement, Prey was in development "for PCs and a next-generation console system" at Madison, Wisconsin-based Human Head studios. Later, the publisher identified the mystery platform as being the Xbox 360. However, as it made no announcements to the contrary, the public assumed that Human Head was handling both the PC and Xbox 360 versions of the game.

Apparently, the public assumed wrong. 2K Games reps confirmed to GameSpot that primary work on the Xbox 360 version of Prey is actually being done at its internal studio, Venom Games (Rocky Legends). However, a rep for the publisher shot down reports that the 360 Prey had been taken away from Human Head and given to Venom. "They're not taking it over, it's always been at Venom," said the rep. "We just never formally announced it."

Why the split development duties? "Venom has a lot of console experience, so they've been doing a great job with Prey for some time now," the rep continued. "The 360 version is currently about a week behind PC in development terms. Human Head is very involved in the 360 version and they're overseeing all the 360-specific stuff." Outside of small tweaks like that, the rep said the two versions would be basically identical.

The 2K Games spokesperson also insisted that Prey will ship simultaneously for the PC and Xbox 360. When will that be? "The date is still officially 'when it's done,' and we're currently expecting that to be early June," said the rep.

Quake 4 Update

The Quake series has always grasped the attention of its fans. With it's mind stimulating imagery, intensive multiplayer and single player action, beautifully orchestrated sound and cutting edge weaponry. Quake IV begins where Quake II left off, you start off as one of Earth’s elite space marines, Matthe Kane. A cinematic sequence opens up the game, showing your dropship being shot down. It's up to you and your remaining A.I. crew to destroy whatever is put in your way. The A.I soldiers act as the storytellers and accompany you on some of the missions. The mix of solo action with squad based action can be refreshing at times, and injects a welcome change of pace in the gameplay, although your team-mates do have an uncanny knack of getting in your way at times. Firefights have enemy Strogg, grunts, gunners and berzerkers launching lunging attacks at ferocious speeds. It’s not in the same league as F.E.A.R, rather the A.I only display a small amount of tactical maturity, It would have been a nice addition to be able to lean round corners and take out the oncoming Strogg, but, a large percentage of Quake IV will see the enemy running straight into your line of fire – it certainly keeps you on your toes but becomes rather draining after a while.

wxHdd v1.0 GUI Xbox 360 HD tool and wxTheme v1.1

There are 2 ways to navigate (read) the Xbox360 HD:
* With the first button (Open File) to open a dump of the disc (faster and more secure)
* Or you can read directly from the disc (in that case the Xbox360 disc must be selected as default) by using the icon on the right (Open Disc)This is the first version, the program will evolve in the coming days, including support for PIRS files.

Some info about the content of the disc:
* Cache: as the name says ... used for caching
* Content: sub-dir 0000... contains the demos and other things you downloaded from LIVE. The other sub-dirs are user profiles.
* mindex: contains music files (both the original music files that come with the HD and those you recorded/transfered)
* H2: unknown (something with Halo2?)
* Compatibility: Xbox 1 gamesaves
* $systemupdate: Last weeks system (kernel/dashboard) update? (seems to contain the dashboard/system files (xex files) flashed on the Xbox360 TSOP during the update)

Stream HD content Wireless Without Hickups on Xbox 360

There's some confusion around the appropriate steps to take in adding an Xbox 360 to a home network with optimal results. In an ideal universe, connecting an Xbox 360 with a wired connection is the best course of action. Wired connections generally guarantee close to 100Mbps per machine across a local area network. Wireless networking is significantly less reliable, with things like cordless phones and microwave ovens operating on the same frequency as the 802.11b and 802.11g standards.

802.11a is the standard Microsoft is recommending, but it's not necessary. My own home network is segmented with an Xbox 360 on one 802.11g access point and all other wireless devices are on a second 802.11g access point. My wired Media Center successfully streams the 1080p HD content available from Microsoft's WMV HD Showcase without any hiccups.

If you currently live in an 802.11b wireless network world, it's definitely time to upgrade. 802.11b results in lousy streaming of audio using Windows Media Connect and most of the existing hardware won't support the WPA security standard you should be using to protect your network. If you live in a house like mine, with one portable machine stuck with onboard 802.11b, you definitely want to segment your 802.11b traffic from the Xbox 360 802.11g traffic to prevent a slowdown in gaming or streaming performance.

802.11g networks also benefit from network segmentation. Put the Xbox 360 on its own 802.11g access point and connect all other wireless devices to a second access point to keep network performance optimized. This is like making the Xbox 360 the lone car on the expressway while all your computers are stuck in traffic over on the highway.

Moore Discusses Xbox 360 Shortages, Live Arcade

During his DICE session, Peter Moore touched on some key Xbox 360 issues such as shortages and Xbox Live.

Regarding shortages, he said, "Within the next four to six weeks, anybody will be able to walk into a store and buy an Xbox 360."
He defended the company's decision to launch the Xbox 360 in three territories. "Was it controversial? Yes. But it's what we needed to do to bring next-gen gaming to a global audience. There have been short-term shortages, but we're driving a clear advantage as we go forward. It was the right decision."

He talked about Xbox Live Arcade and the success of the try-before-you-buy model. He used the example of Geometry Wars (pictured), for which 36 percent of consumers who downloaded the demo bought the game. The average Xbox Live Arcade conversion is 20 percent, with the lowest conversion rate for a game being 10 percent.

Xplorer360 v0.9: Read/Write access to Xbox 360 HD, Mcard *UPDATED* Beta2

Here it is! The highly anticipated release of xplorer360. This is beta software and needs testing. What better way then let you guys find the bugs!

Too many features to list but here are a few:
* FULL Read/Write to 360 HDDs.
* FULL Read/Write to 360 Memory Units.
* Physical and Logical drive access.
* Support for opening of dumps of both devices.
* Backup/Restore dump options.Any bugs you may find can please be directed to our forums.
Brought to you by Roofus and AngerWound of the 360GameSaves.com Team!

Be on the lookout for some cool hardware we'll be making available in the near future as well! With read and write support to the Xbox 360 harddisk and memcard it means you'll be able to share gamesaves over the internet, 360gamesaves.com has a gamesaves database and upload script waiting to be used :-)
You can connect your Xbox 360 HD on your PC via an SATA controller, the memorycard can be connected via USB (see how here or here).
The Xbox360 saves are usually in /content/<profileID>/<titleID>/ of partition3 on your Xbox 360 HD. Xbox 360 gamesaves can be transfered to another Xbox 360 console and profile, but all 'LIVE achievements' will be disabled of course (achievements are linked to the LIVE profile). A dumbed down version of xplorer360 made specially for gamesaves manipulation will be released soon which should make it easier for beginners to find their gamesaves.

Also interesting - this tool will allow you to move over your old Xbox 1 gamesaves to your Xbox 360 (they will probably have to go somewhere in /partition3/Compatibility/Xbox1/ or /partition3/H2/), something that was impossible up to now.

But of course it'll also allow you to navigate the rest of the disc, so you can check out all the stuff located on the drive, like the music stored on your drive or what you downloaded from Xbox LIVE for example (demos, live arcade, themes, videos ...).

Note: Before people try to launch crazy ideas again: No this does not allow you to copy retail games (signed for XBOX360DVD media only) to the HD and play them. It's a tool that gives you access to the Xbox 360 HD and Memcard from a PC, it does not hack/bypass any security.

*UPDATE* BUG: One confirmed bug has been found and can be harmful if not known. Do not attempt to insert a file with the same name into a folder. If the filename already exists, delete it then insert your new one. Look for an updated/fixed build soon.

Xbox 360 Camera and Microphone Details

* In-Camera Video Processing
The camera itself is capable of not only receiving the information, but also processing it. It's no mean feat in something so small, and it allows the console to run unfettered, as the image processing doesn't suck up all its bandwidth.

* Thirty Frames per Second
The camera is capable of capturing 30 frames per second. If you need a standard for comparison, think about this: Television is displayed at 30 frames per second, most video games are displayed at 30 frames per second (though developers are striving to make 60 the norm), and film is captured and displayed at 27 frames per second.

* Stills
Like any good video camera, the camera is also capable of taking still images (with 1.3 megapixels of memory) as well. Your faces can be imported into games or accompany your name on leader boards for even more recognition and fame.

* Low Light Performance
We gamers love playing in the dark--most gaming environments have very low illumination, and the camera is designed specifically with that in mind.

* Video Chat
To further illustrate the point, he mentioned, "It's not just the camera, we have the microphone as well." The microphone plugs directly into the controller and allows your voice to carry through to the recipient's TV or stereo speakers.
The microphone connected to the Xbox 360 Controller allows group chat, unlike the Xbox 360 Headset. Video chat and video messaging with your friends will become an integrated part of the Xbox Live experience.

* Gesture Gaming
The specs for the camera are something to behold, and the ability to hold quality video chats with your friends is just plain neat. But what use does it have in gaming? Banerjee responds with a couple of interesting points. "It will open the door for the future of gesture gaming, and it goes hand-in-hand with the software that's developed for it."
In short, the camera offers developers the ability to add elements of gameplay that could directly respond to your own actions. For example, imagine controlling a squad of soldiers by silently gesturing where to go, instead of issuing a voice command and alerting nearby guards.
This ushers in a new generation of fun online motion detection-enabled games where you use your body to control on-screen characters over Xbox Live. The camera and microphone offer the functionality, so now it's up to the game developers to find innovative ways to implement it.

Detailed Tech Info of Headers and Connectors on Xbox 360 Motherboard

Speedy22 sent us a great document he wrote with pinouts, diagrams and technical/manufacturer details of all the headers and connectors on the Xbox 360 motherboard. He also added some info about differences on retails motherboards, list of Bios/Kernel versions seen so far, Retail/XeXDK/HDK ports and the different unique numbers (like console serial number, product id and so on):Most of the information was based on the top and bottom layers of a dechipped 360 motherboard and decapped chips, I will update the information once I gain full knowledge of the inner layers of the motherboard.
For reference, I have also included some information I have gathered from images of Development Hardware and XDK hardware found on the net.
Please double-check my information, I am human and I do make mistakes. I have also attempted to give credit where credit was due. If you find any errors or omissions, please let me know so that I can correct it on future versions.
Like most, I am doing this as a hobby in my spare time, so I will do my best to keep the information up to date but I can not make any guarantees.

Gael360 released an update of wxHdd(info) (a tool to read the Xbox 360 HDD on PC) and wxPirs (to tool to open Generic Xbox 360 Container files).

* Handling fragmentation of disc (v1.2)
* Opening of several partitions (v1.2)
* Extracting directories (v1.2)

Gael360 also released a new tool called wxPirs v1.1:This tool will allow you to open files of the following types: PIRS, LIVE or CON, which are "generic container files" on the Xbox360.
More info about this format is available on free60.org.

These 3 formats are identical, the only difference are the first 4 characters of the file (PIRS/LIVE/CON), which is where their names come from, and what they are used for:
* PIRS: used to store themes or gamertags for example
* LIVE: used to store content downloaded from Xbox LIVE
* CON: these are a bit special, they are the only ones of this format that are create by the Xbox 360 itself. They are used to store saved games.

Xbox Dev Team about Xbox (360) Operating System

One of the first questions I get when someone hears I work on Xbox is "So, what operating system do you guys use? Windows 2000, right?" I am honestly not sure where the Win2K misperception comes from, but Xbox runs a custom operating system built from the ground up. While our operating system exports many of the same APIs found in Win32 (e.g. CreateThread or WaitForSingleObject), not everything is there. For instance, there is no use for CreateWindow on Xbox - all graphics are done through (our own flavor of) Direct3D.

There are a number of reasons both Xbox and 360 have their own OS. First, it gives Xbox a chance to own its own destiny in terms of architecture. When you have your own operating system, it's easy to go in and change things. Second comes performance. There isn't much of a hardware abstraction layer on Xbox - most stuff talks almost directly to hardware. This eliminates a lot of software overhead you might find on a PC. Third is security. With our own operating system, it also becomes a lot easier to design & implement our own security architecture. As the community is finding out, there is a lot of custom stuff.

The operating system is more than just the kernel. On Windows, you have critical components such as EXPLORER.EXE, shlwapi.dll, user32.dll, and others that are required for your system to function. On Xbox 360, we have similarly critical components. When you see a required system update from Xbox Live, we are mostly updating these critical components with fixes as well as new features.

That's a primer on our operating system. I wouldn't want to spill all my guts in one post 'cuz then I'd have nothing to talk about later on. Let us know if you want to know more about the OS in the comments...

Xplorer360 v0.9 Beta 3.1 and Help Out Team 360GameSaves.com

Xplorer360(info) v0.9 Beta 3.1
So it seems when we compiled Xplorer360 Beta 3 we left out the search for XBOX1 HDD as a Physical Device! Download Link has been updated with that little problem fixed. :)

* AngerWound Needs an XBox 360 for Xplorer360 Development!
Well, as you can see from the title above. Neither of the developers of Xplorer360 currently own an Xbox 360 to your amazement! Everything was written based on dumps, and then ported over to use actual devices.
This is why we unleashed Xplorer360 so early, to get some real testing done! However, we'd like to be able to test things on our own hardware before putting the public at risk with possible bugs.

New Dead Rising footage

Dead Rising is one of those games that looks cool, but never really appeared earth shattering. Before now the graphics didn’t look that great, and the framerate was so-so. Capcom has apparently been keeping themselves busy as the latest Dead Rising footage look superb! Before now, the game wasn’t even on my buy list. It’s great to see a game come together like this.

One of my fears was that the gameplay would get repetitive like most hack and slash games. We were previously told you can use just about anything in the mall as a weapon, and apparently that wasn’t much of an exageration. One of my favorite effects in the video was pushing through the crowd of zombies with a big umbrella and they deflect off like rag dolls. Or how about a little humor? Stick some cones on the zombies head and snap some pictures:

King Kong demo and other content on XBLM

For those not in the know, XBLM is shorthand for Xbox Live Marketplace. Besides the King Kong demo, there are also Hexic and Bejeweled theme packs, new sounds, graphics, and scenario packs for Crystal Quest, and Fight Night Round 3 picture packs and themes.

Nothing gets me more interested than a playable demo, but the sound and graphics packs really peaked my interest. The prospects of changing a games sounds and visuals is a neat concept, and as Major Nelson points out it’s the first time it’s been done on the Marketplace.

Before you rush off to download the King Kong demo, it apparently has some major glitches. Major glitches as in the T-Rex level is missing T-Rex. Sounds like someone really dropped the ball on this one. I’ll keep you updated on this post.

Update - The King Kong appears to have been pulled. I’ll make a new post when a fix demo is released.

Street Fighter II: HF taken for a spin

There's a pretty good chance that Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting is gonna drop on Xbox Live Arcade next week. So now's the time to get ourselves worked up into a froth. Gamespot got their lucky "hands on" an early copy of the guaranteed hit and concluded:

"From the look of things, Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting is shaping up to be just what fans want. The visuals look promising, the control is basically solid, and the breakdown of achievements for it are good, too. The only stumbling block we've noticed has been the game's performance, which we expect to be improved."

Feature I'm most looking forward to: quarter matches (pictured). Totally recreate that arcade experience, study their moves, plunk your quarter down, get embarrassed. Ah, the good old days.

Have 360, will travel. DIY 360 travel case

A dedicated 360 Fanboy at Frag-X has made himself a rugged carrying case for his Xbox 360 "in about 30 minutes for well under 40 dollars." He used a Husky aluminum toolbox, available at Home Depot for $20, black foam available at a fabric or craft store, spray adhesive, a CD wallet, and some Velcro.

Everything said and done, the real catch here is the toolbox, which happens to fit the 360, power supply, cords, and controllers perfectly. Maybe even too perfectly... Now I'm trying to think of a reason to haul the 360 around.

Infineon's Memory Chips Holding Up the Xbox 360?

Although a low chip yield has been named as a culprit in the past, it's the first time a specific supplier and component have been named.

Unnamed sources told the Mercury News that Infineon wasn't able to produce enough quality GDDR3 memory chips. Xbox 360 contract manufacturers Wistron and Flextronics reportedly had to sort through Infineon chip shipments, separating the good from the bad, which wasted both time and components.

Rejected chips couldn't keep up with the Xbox 360's 700 megahertz speed, and could noticeably affect the performance of the console if installed.Currently, Samsung is the only supplier other than Infineon that supplies Microsoft with the GDDR3 memory, a fact that increases the plausibility of such a component issue.

Xbox boss Peter Moore refused to specify the cause of the hold-up. "We have more than 200 suppliers and I'm not going to point the finger at any one of them."Moore said at last week's DICE Summit that "Within the next four to six weeks, anybody will be able to walk into a store and buy an Xbox 360," and that component shortages "have been fixed." A third contract manufacturer Celestica is expected to alleviate some of the supply issues.

Nam Hyung Kim, an analyst with iSuppli told Mercury News. "I was concerned even before they released the Xbox 360 that they wouldn't get enough supply. This was a very aggressive plan by Microsoft. To me, it was risky to go ahead. If there is a shortage of these chips, it could very well cause a shortage of the Xbox 360."

New Xbox Live Marketplace Downloads

Thats right, even more downloads for the Xbox Live Marketplace have gone live. You can now download the King Kong demo as well as some Hexic and Bejeweled theme packs. New sounds, graphics and scenario packs for Crystal Quest and Fight Night Round 3 picture packs and themes are also available.

This marks the first time that Xbox Live Marketplace has been used to facilitate the changing of a games sounds and visuals, and is a great concept.

On the down side, the King Kong demo has one major glitch… The T-Rex level has no T-Rex… Well, hopefully they fix this one soon, we will keep you updated.

Splinter Cell: Double Agent - Impressions

Kikizo brings us some interesting impressions on Ubisoft's long in development, Splinter Cell: Double Agent. Double Agent is the next game in the Splinter Cell series of stealth action games from the acclaimed developer. This new entry paints protagonist Sam Fisher in quite a different light than we're used to, no longer is Sam the cool customer who'd kill your dog and you'd never know it, he's a broken man who's fallen on hard times. Sam's daughter, Sarah has died recently, sending him into a state of emotional turmoil that causes him to quit his job, the next time we see Sam he's in jail, and it only gets worse from there.

"You begin the game in prison and your first task is to find a guy called Jamie Washington who you must befriend, so to infiltrate his organisation and take cover as a double agent. [sic] You also have to make sure those who want him dead on the inside don't succeed. You also have to escape and you won't have your trademark goggles to help you."

The interview also goes into specifics about what to expect from Double Agent on the various platforms, as well as further information on the changes to gameplay being made to the game for its next generation outing on the Xbox 360.

Shaun White Strikes Gold

Shaun White had stuck gold recently in more then one way. In addition to winning the gold medal in the halfpipe snowboarding event in the Winter Olympics, he has teamed up with Ubisoft to announce their new line of current and next-gen snowboarding names based on White's snowboarding style.

White is rumored to be collaborating closely with Ubisoft developers on the game, and is an avid gamer himself. "I'm stoked to be working with Ubisoft to develop a video game that captures the thrill of snowboarding like no game has done before," White said. "I'm a huge fan of Ubisoft games like Prince of Persia, so I'm excited to be able to combine what I love about snowboarding and gaming into an experience for everyone to enjoy."

At 19 years old White is admired as one of the top snowboarders in the world. The only snowboarder ever to win the Winter X Games gold in both halfpipe and slopestyle AND in his gold medal performance in the Olympics, White pulled off a back-to-back 1080-degree rotation grabbing his board on both and leaving the audiences stunned. Look for a release of his new titles sometime in 2007.

BattleField 2 Screenshots for Xbox 360

Electronic Arts recently released a few new screenshots of the Xbox 360 version of Battlefield 2. Subtitled: 'Modern Combat', the Xbox 360 version will include Xbox Live online play, voice communication, and of course 5.1 surround sound.

Some nice graphic work has gone into this title, notice the lighting and shadow effects and some very high resolution polygon models and texture maps. BF2 for the PC includes a nice racking system and awards which is assumed to fit in well to the new Achievements system strutured with Xbox Live's new service.

Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII to be Released in Q4

Today Ubisoft, one of the world's largest video game publishers, announced that the action-filled flight combat game Blazing Angels Squadrons of WWII will be released for Xbox 360 and Xbox video game and entertainment systems from Microsoft in Q4 FY 2005-2006.

In Blazing Angels Squadrons of WWII, players test their air-combat skills as they experience the most famous battles of World War II. As a squadron leader, players can fly up to 38 WWII aircraft in both single-player and multiplayer missions.

Developed by Ubisoft, Blazing Angels Squadrons of WWII features innovative squadron-based combat, in which each artificial intelligence wingman's specialized skill can be used to the pilot's advantage. During the course of the 18-mission campaign, players will evolve along with their wingmen into an ace fighting force. Spectacular graphics enhance the combat experience in true World War II battle sites such as England, Germany, France, Morocco, Pearl Harbor, Midway and Tokyo. The heroic storyline that follows the evolution of a single squadron and the cinematic presentation create moments reminiscent of classic World War II movies. Pilots fly in close to Germany's industrial terrain during a bombing raid or emerge from the fog and cloud cover over London to engage the enemy. Up to 16 players online can engage over Xbox Live® online game service in head-to-head dogfights or cooperative team play between squadrons in 10 additional missions.

Blazing Angels Squadrons of WWII for Xbox 360 will feature significant visual and sound enhancements that will take advantage of the powerful audio and graphical capabilities of Xbox 360's platform. Stunning graphics and improved sound will completely immerse the player in a cinematic experience as fights in epic air battles of World War II including:

* Enhanced 3D plane models: Highly detailed and authentic-looking planes make intensive use of environmental lighting and dynamic imagery.
* New improved and enlarged textures provide more detail for both planes and terrain: Players will see sun glare on their cockpits, light shafts streaking through clouds and detailed shadows on the environment. Cities, buildings and facilities have also been enhanced to take full advantage of advanced lighting effects and shading to create an intense, realistic atmosphere for cities and military bases.
* More realistic battle damage: Bullets hit planes and smoke dynamically streams from cannons and engines. Battle damage from bullets, bombs and downed planes is visible and persistent on both terrain and buildings.
* Dramatic presentation: Visual perception filtering will be enhanced including extended burn effects and motion blur to create even more drama. Intense shockwaves from explosions fill the sky with debris using dynamic lighting and particle effects made possible by Xbox 360's system.
* Enhanced sound effects: Perception filtering enhances the player's immersion. Sound treatment is actively managed in accordance to what the player does. Sound varies depending on the scene in order to create a more immersive, cinematic and dramatic atmosphere around the player.

Browse the internet on your Xbox 360

In order to make this work you NEED to have Windows XP Media Center Edition. This will not work with any other platform of windows (XP or otherwise). Note that this is not a add-on to Media Center Edition, nor a full browser in any aspect. Simply, it is using MCE PC to render an image of the website for the Xbox360. You will not be able to enter text, such as in google or the address bar. You will be able to follow links but that is about it.

1. Go to http://www.anpark.com/software.aspx
2. Click on "Download Now (591 Kb)"
3. Double click on MCEBrowserSetup.msi and just click next
4. Start your Xbox360 and go into Media Center
5. Go into "More Programs" and choose the "Browser" Entry.
6. Add Favorites to your 360 from your PC, by going into:

* C:\ then "Documents and Settings" folder, then the "MCX#" folder
* (# is a number, it depends on how many times you did manually reconnect the 360 to the PC , so it changes for everyone. The highest number is the latest, so choose that folder)

Keyboard support is currently unavailable. GamerReports states that they think that "The only way to exploit the Xbox360 would be with an image library exploit."

Direct TV to bring HD TV movies on the Xbox 360?

Back at CES, Direct TV announced that they had some plans for integration with Windows Media and bring HD TV flicks to the Xbox 360 system. Well the latest issue of OXM shows that they may be going further than that. OXM reports on rumors that there could be an entire new blade devoted to DTV. Features such as movies on demand and standard-definition streaming DVR (TiVo) were specifically mentioned. At this point, this is all still classified as a rumor, but this is something that would definitely be great to see come to the 360!

Gears of War update (Xbox 360/PC)

John Porcaro, a Microsoft employee and member of the Xbox Global Marketing team, has updated his Gamerscore blog with some interesting info from the recent Microsoft Sales & Marketing Summit. In his update, Porcaro revealed that Robbie Bach and Peter Moore ran never-before-seen demos of upcoming Xbox 360 titles, including Gears of War. (thanks TeamXbox)

Peter then took the stage for about 90 minutes, where he went in depth about upcoming plans for the games group. He showed several demos that have never been seen before (though I expect updated versions will be made public in the weeks (GDC) and months (E3) ahead). The demos included gameplay from Gears of War (holy smokes, I can't wait for that game!), plus a closer look at Rise of Legends, and several others coming soon.

In addition, Mark Rein, VP of Epic Games, revealed they are currently playtesting the multiplayer aspect of the game. "We've recently been doing some multiplayer play tests. We've had eight-player matches, they go on for a long time and everyone's really enjoying testing them out." Well, if Gears Of Wars' mutilplayer is aimed at cooperation and taking cover, then 8 players could be a good thing. Too many people can turn things into a frag-fest...

Chatered and Microsoft Sign 65-nm Manufacturing Agreement for Xbox360 CPU

hartered Semiconductor Manufacturing, one of the world's top dedicated semiconductor foundries, has signed an agreement with Microsoft for the manufacturing of CPU products-using 65-nanometer (nm) Silicon-on-Insulator (SOI) semiconductor technology -for Microsoft's Xbox 360 game consoles. Production is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2007, and will support the Xbox 360's growing demand and expanding market reach. The announcement follows Chartered's successful manufacturing of 90nm SOI CPU products for the Xbox 360 console's launch, through an agreement with IBM.

"We look forward to working with Chartered on the production of such an important component of our Xbox 360 system," said Larry Yang, General Manager of Xbox Console Development at Microsoft. "Chartered's ability to demonstrate the manufacturability of IBM's advanced SOI technology in Fab 7 was key to our selection. We plan to continue with our strategy of dual sourcing from Chartered and IBM's fabs, which are operationally aligned and compatible, to give us the consistent product quality and flexibility we will need."

"We are excited to expand our manufacturing relationship with Microsoft and leverage the innovative 65nm SOI technology made available to us through our agreement with IBM," said Kay Chai "KC" Ang, senior vice president of fab operations at Chartered. "This is both a recognition of Chartered's 300mm manufacturing excellence and increasing customer confidence in our ability to enable cutting-edge technologies as products transition to 65nm. By working closely with IBM to enable manufacturing compatibility and dual-sourcing capability, our goal is to continue to be a reliable manufacturing source to Microsoft."

Devil 360: Xbox 360 Security Info

Here's some news we received from the Devil360 Team, who announced last week that they will release a new product for the Xbox 360 on 06/06/2006 Xbox:
* The previous version of M$ console has been hacked by Andrew Huang also known as Bunnie from M.I.T. (more details here[pdf])
* This guy is very well known for his book "Hacking the Xbox". (more details here)
* What was the real security of the Xbox? Check this article[xbox-linux.org]

(*) Xbox 360:
* At http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360 you will find a good definition of the new Xbox 360 features.

* What about the security of this M$ product?

-M$ worked on it a little bit at least.
According to findarticles.com, Chipworks is an internationally recognized technical services company that analyzes the circuitry and physical composition of semiconductors devices and electronic systems for a wide range of applications in intellectual property licensing, patenting and competitive study. Chipworks has successfully helped leading-edge semiconductor and electronics organizations achieve their goals by supporting research and development efforts in strategic product development and patent portfolio management. At the end of 2005, Chipworks analyzed the main chip of the 360 console and created a commercial report (see here).

-Bunnie also wrote a document which content is speculative and subject to change (see here[pdf]). This document deals with the Xbox 360 security scheme.
He made some assumptions about the scheme:
>be resistant against "hack once run everywhere" attacks (means invalidate mod chips using crypto and a specific perso for each console)
>be weak against one-time "hero hacks" (means avoid bunnie's or MIT hackers articles)
>use custom features in the processor or chipset cores (use microelectronic and electronic hardware to defeat software script kiddies)
A long time ago we bought several Xbox 360 and started to investigate their security scheme. Eventually a lot of bunnie's assumptions were brilliant. Well done!

-Playing pirated games or hacking the Xbox 360 security core?
Recently (mid march 2006) a hacker called "The specialist" published one weakness and a lot of people are now working on hacking the DVD firmware.
Using a fast FPGA card, it is possible to insert a parser/driver between the motherboard and the optical reader... we let the reader conclude by himself (sed -e 's/DVDFAKE/DVDXBOX/g Input > Output ;-)). What about the SATA HD?... wait and see. Maybe another time when few things would have been detailed.
Anyway what is your aim ?
If you wish to run Linux on your 360 then you have a problem, and this problem is very interesting. (see free60.org)

-According to M$ "The core security system has not been broken" (see here).
True the security core is intact. And not broken yet. Is it breakable? Maybe...

-Did M$ build the security architecture alone?
No, M$ received some help from Infineon (TPM) (see here).
Remark: If you can provide us some TMP chips, we could be friends. We have some but maybe few things evolved.

-M$ did not make some mistakes as the previous time with the first Xbox.
>The motherboard is reduced and a lot of wires are PCB protected. Then it is not so easy to spy wires and to apply a man in the middle attack.
>The firmware of each console can be reprogrammed by M$ using Xbox LIVE. This operation can be executed without the acceptation of the user. The idea is to release a new secure patch (a little bit like Zindows update) using the network.
>What about collecting the route, IP address, crypto keys and some more information from the console at this time?
It is not a nightmare!! They do it.We first de-capped Xbox 360 components as Chipworks did and we analyzed the console (Some chips have nine levels of metal).
Now we can confirm a lot of bunnie's assumptions and sometimes even worse.

What could happen if M$ would have made a hardware mistake?
We will communicate about this in the next 360 hours.
The next communication will include pictures of the de-capped chips and then some explanations about the console and a little bit more.
In the future we will only communicate with people who subscribed an email address. [note x-s: it'll be posted here on the x-scene news too ofcuz]

Transcode 360 v1.0 Beta 3.1 W.I.P.

I wanted to say a word of thanks for the feedback you've given us to date and give you the heads up on an interim release thats coming your way very soon.

A number of bugs were reported that although easily fixable, were causing quite a lot of problems and general distress, so I wanted to let you know that we're currently testing an interim Beta 3.1 build which we hope will address the following issues:
1. WmeBroadcastTranscoder disabled by default (no need for Windows Media Encoder)
2. Region neutral framerate parsing (smoother playback in non-US/UK territories).
3. The latest mencoder (available from the main website)
4. The ability to disable CleanProcessesOnStart (improve service startup time)
5. W1LL3M's subtitle patch

I'll update the download link on the left sidebar of runtime360.com as soon as the new build is available.
Thanks for your support!

Team Xecuter 360 DVD to PC Adapter soon and SATA to USB Convertor

Just to let you know we will be shipping the X360 DVDROM to PC adapters in the next couple of weeks. Prices haven't been set but they will be very cheap. We will also be doing bundle kits with the HDD adapter too - plus stay tuned for a very nice HDD SATA to USB convertor (actually there will be two different versions - more news soon) - again we have worked to make this very affordable to the end user.

You can expect to be using firmware reader/writers at about the same time (others are working on some good looking homebrew projects too - check out http://devo-e.com/dvdhax/).

On another note apologies for the domain name change and the state of the site in the last week. The domain never actually belonged to us and was given to us for free use by a very good friend who isn't being such a good friend at the moment :-) So thanks to another friend for letting us use www.team-xecuter.com.

The forums are back working again and we have also made a post answering some rediculous accusations pointed at us by a few stupid individuals. It's a pointless read but entertaining in it's own way:

Wistron Aims for 1 Mln Xbox 360s Monthly

Wistron, one of three Xbox 360 console manufacturers, is planning to increase production capacity to 1 million units per month by the end of the year, according to the Wall Street Journal Online.

The article states that the manufacturer wouldn't disclose the production capacity for the console last year, but analysts estimate the 1 million unit target would be three times greater.
Manufacturers Flextronics and Celestica will also continue Xbox 360 production, so while the 1 million unit monthly target is substantial, even greater numbers will be produced overall.

Well friends, lets get some parts and diagrams shall we?

The following diagram has been made purely to make it as simple as possible for beginners and advanced users alike.Adapter Pinout

[X] [9] [7] [5] [3] [1]
X = Dead Pins

Full Parts List:
- Capacitors - .o1 micro Farads (symbol looks like .01 uF) [any small value should work, it is just used to filter AC out of the line so a "true earth" ground is achived]
- Voltage regualtor- 1086V33
- Small wire andything around the 20-22 gauge should work
- A small PC board
- Some small heatshrink might cmome in handy.
- You will need a power connector from a orginal xbox, or you can make your own. The connector pin spacing on the power connector is 2mm.

Now, there are other ways to build this, but we felt for newbies and pros alike, the best middleground were the parts listed above. I have taken into consideration some suggested parts, and will be adding them soon, but as an actual page to this blog, not a post.

Transcode 360 v1.0 Beta 3.1

As discussed in my previous post, you can now download the interim Transcode 360(info) Beta 3.1 release.

It contains quite a few fixes and to sweeten the update I've thrown in DVD ISO streaming (experimental). Your ISO images should ideally be DeCSS'd, and contain just the main title with the appropriate audio track.

Tip: If you really want to maximise your performance, you can get a pre-compiled build of mencoder optimised for your processor over here. The one we redistribute with T360 is generic for logistical reasons. However, if you do raise a support issue please make sure that you let us know that you're using a non-standard build.

Pictures from the Water Balloon Challenge in Australia

just got back to the hotel and uploaded the pictures to my Flickr site. It was a great event, and it was even better when I got to meet some blog readers that found me in the crowd of 3,000 people. Check out the cool T-Shirt and goggles that everyone had to wear. I have video of the actual event, but I won't be able to post that until I get back to the states.
All in all it was a record breaking event, and I have an interview from the Guinness World Book of Records guy who was here to certify the event, and I'll post that as well when I get back to the US.

"Hidden Fees" For Final Fantasy Players?

At least one player has complained about what he says is a "lack of disclosure" regarding fees required to play Final Fantasy XI on the Xbox 360 platform.

Most players understand that multiplayer games require monthly fees. This particular player had believed that all was required after purchase was to install it and start playing. He was shocked to find that the installation took hours, and that would be charged $12.95 per month, plus $1 for each additional character he created beyond the initial one.

When this complaint was investigated, it was found that the installation on the Xbox was indeed lengthy and cumbersome. Additionally, the monthly fees are not clearly disclosed when players initially purchase the game (currently about $50 USD). In fact, none of the retailers - including Walmat, Amazon, Target, Gamestop, Outpost, or Costco - bothered to disclose the fact that the game will require an ongoing monthly subscription fee, although they did include this information for other games.

Love Football Gameplay Videos

Previous screenshots from Love Football weren't exactly impressive to be nice, and although it looks like it's been touched up, a whole lot hasn't really been change ed visually since previous posts. Featuring 60 teams from around the world with complete rosters and real athletes, Love Football features a first-person camera angle where gamers get to see the action from the player's perspective. The game also features a Japanese Representative Story Mode where gamers can pick their favorite Japanese star and experience the life of a soccer star. Although these videos show the third person views, you can still get a good impression of what the final product will be like

KeyDrive Patcher/Xtractor v0.5

Scener released a tool that will allow you to easily extract and write the unique DVD key to/from an Hitachi-LG Xbox 360 firmware file (so no need to hex-edit it manually anymore). http://xbox360.qj.net/Bizzarre-Talks-Up-The-PGR3-SpeedPack-Update/pg/49/aid/28326

QJ already covered the release of the PGR3 SpeedPack, and the reasoning behind the update and various content has caused a little bit of contention in the gaming realm, so the folks at IGN chat with the guys at Bizarre to uncover the truth. Firstly, the fact the pack was charged for was met with more than a few complaints on various sites. Bizarre states that the reason for the cost is simple, it took time and money to produce, so that's why it's a pay-for pack. Other updates are actually free and the cars themselves work out at only 60 Microsoft Points per vehicle.

Bizarre also add that they've included a new achievement. Points will be awarded to people who qualify for a tournament, so anyone with this particular achievement is a good racer. The online professional achievement has also been modified due to feedback from the PGR3 community. The new cars are said to be faster, but won't compromise the balance of the gameplay. Overall it seems that the folks at Bizarre are happy to listen to the games fans and act upon their wants and needs. You can't really blame them for charging for that.

Xbox 360 More Popular Than PS2?

Apparently, the Xbox 360 is more popular than every other console in the market, if April sales figures are anything to go by. This gaming console from Microsoft outsold other consoles - 295,000 Xbox 360s were sold, according to The NPD Group. Sony's current-gen console, the PS2, sold 205,000 units.

If you think about it, even with the relatively bigger sales of the Xbox 360, it still has a way to go before it catches up to the PS2. I'm no Sony fangirl, but I find it amazing that even after other companies have released their consoles, the PS2's still selling as well as it is.

Reports also state that software sales were better for the Xbox 360, with a ratio of 4:5; the top five selling games in April were also for Microsoft's console.

Sony to lose Devil May Cry exclusivity?
In an interview with Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, Capcom producer Hiroshi Kobayashi hinted at the possibility of Devil May Cry heading to Wii and Xbox 360 as well, instead of just the PS3 for it's next iteration. This would be another big loss for Sony after Microsoft announced the next Grand Theft Auto for the Xbox 360.

Kobayashi said he still isn't sure about the real power of Sony's new console, but expects the visuals of a new DMC title to look like the trailer shown at the E3 last year. He didn't reveal anything gameplay-wise except for a definitive change in the fighting system. In order to appeal to more gamers, it's difficulty will be lowered and controls will be made easier to master.

The Devil May Cry series was has been one of the biggest selling franchises for the Playstation 2, especially in Japan. And while Sony still holds key brands like Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid, that may not be enough to convince most gamers to shell out over $500 for the PS3, when they'll be able to play most of the next-gen titles on consoles half as expensive.

Xecuter 360 Connectivity Kit Update and New Products

A bit more info (incl. expected retail price) has been released by Team Xecuter(info) about the Xecuter 360 Connectivity Kit (pre-order is already available from divineo.cn). They also announced a few new products currently in development: a Dual Firmware Kit, ODD to USB Convertor, ODD to IDE Convertor and a 360 Dissasembly Kit:* 360 ODD Adapter
This adapter supplies power to your ODD (Optical Disc Drive) from your PC so you can connect direct to Sata without any fuss. It also has an eject switch and a debug (modeb) switch. Currently modeb is supported by Hitachi drives (The Samsung we tested needed to be flashed with the xtreme_0800 firmware to be recognized in windows).
The adapter is incredibly convenient and perfect for those who dont want to have the Xbox 360 hooked up to their PC so you dont have to move all your equipment / get behind your TV to unplug your video cables and mess around with that huge power supply if the Xbox 360 is in another room, and it's also for those who want the to use Debug Mode or have the eject option without any other cables or soldering. It is especially ideal for those who happen to have a spare Xbox 360 ODD. It's all about CONVENIENCE!

* 360 HDD Adapter
This adapter enables you to connect your Xbox 360 Sata Hard Drive to your PC without any fuss. It is a clean and tested design with no frills, perfect for the 360 enthusiast.

This complete kit will be available to buy in June from Xecuter stockists. Resellers tell us that they are setting the RRP at $29.95 for the complete kit, not bad considering other versions of HDD Adapter alone has been on sale for $20+.

We are also in the process of developing a Dual Firmware Kit, ODD to USB Convertor, ODD to IDE Convertor and a 360 Dissasembly Kit which will make it a breeze to take your case apart (those clips on the rear are a pain in the ass arent they?)

SS.bin Confusion

t seems many people are having issues when they are trying to boot their games with SS (Security Sector) files that they have downloaded.

I think we may have spotted the problem. let's take an example - Call of Duty 2.
We checked every single version of the ss.bin for COD2 NTSC/U and each and every one has the same MD5 884E8BA44329D133973289A0CD8C8374. However when checking the PAL version we found 3 different versions (so far !)
DF77CCA54F575225DF6C07DF459A8652, 510A6C63D95CB26B072D5C214D207DC8 and 2F66E72B3E3A2895AB883628749C778B

So our guess is that their are different versions of game for PAL countries (Probably UK, Euro/Multi language & Australia).
This would definatley explain why many PAL users are having issues. Someone needs to start a database of which ss goes with which iso - best to have MD5's of both so it helps people from tearing their hair out and wasting money on expensive dual layer discs

Xbox 360 Controller USB Drivers for Mac OSX

ntroduction
I have created a USB driver which allows you to use the XBox 360 [Wired] Controller on an OSX machine, including support for the Apple Force Feedback library. The driver is licenced under the GPL.

Update
It appears that Microsoft have now announced the USB dongle to allow the wireless controller to work with a PC. As soon as I can get my hands on one of these I will attempt to figure out how it works and update this driver to support it.

Force feedback-enabled games
Games I've currently tested for force feedback support (only games that support basic rumble will probably function currently, as I've only implemented triangle, square and sine wave-type effects. I also lack any other force feedback device for comparison :) ):
* Jammin' Racer - seems to work fine

Still needing implemented
* I don't think settings are persistent
* More settings, e.g. trigger deadzone, button remap
* Force feedback may elongate effects
* Force feedback (DirectInput-style interface) emulator may need more work
* Preference pane currently only tests rumble motors, by creating a force feedback interface but then just using the Escape functionality
* Driver needs to handle more possible errors.

Possible future additions
* Ability to alter HID descriptor, both to remap buttons and change device type (e.g. make it function as a keyboard)
* Support all 360 controller devices without adding to the plist file - I attempted to make it match by interface but it wasn't picked up by the kernel when I tried

Joystiq Interview: Epic's Cliff Bleszinski

JoyStiq: I wanted to congratulate you on the success of Gears of War at E3. In a year without a lot of standout titles, Gears of War was the talk of the show. That said, why wasn't it playable on the show floor?
* CliffyB: We wanted it to be playable with the versus multiplayer. Thing is, the show floor -- to me -- is a clusterfuck. It is an absolute trainwreck of noise, and boobs, and sweat, and swag, and there is no worse venue to pick up a game and start to play than the show floor of E3. Taking people away from the show floor and putting them into the little theater is a much better experience and that's what we wanted to do with the versus multiplayer.

* JoyStiq: Graphically do you feel there's anything you've been unable to do on the 360 that the PS3 might enable you to?
* CliffyB: I think we're at the point where technologically ... I have what I call the "mom test." Take a game that's on 360 and on PS3, can your mom tell the difference in graphic quality? If she can't, is there that much of a difference?

Team XTender XCM 360 High Speed Air Cooler

Our XCM 360 high speed air cooler is to be released soon! Below are its descriptions and technical documentation:
External Xbox 360 air coolers can only cool the temperature of the Xbox 360's outer surface but do not cool the temperature of the CPU/GPU; therefore, making them useless to combat CPU/GPU overheating.
The XCM high speed air cooler directly cools the 360 CPU and GPU. Using internal temperature measuring devices, this product monitors the temperature of the 360 CPU and GPU.

XCM high speed air cooler's external controller will allow you to control the speed of the fan while it monitors the temperature of the 360 CPU and GPU. AUTO mode will automatically adjust the fan speed depending on the temperature of the CPU and GPU.

Don't Hold Your Breath, No Price Drop for Xbox 360

We thought the impending arrival of Nintendo's Wii and Sony's PS3 price announcement would rattle Microsoft just enough to bring the price of the Xbox 360 closer to earth. We were wrong. "We have no plans to make any price adjustment," said Microsoft's Xbox Euro boss Chris Lewis. "The last couple of days have reinforced the fact that we have a great value proposition, giving consumers choice, thanks to the core system."

The sales of Xbox 360 is making the MS hop, skip, and sing all the way to the bank. They are so confident they will sell 10 million of their next-gen console by the time PS3 comes on the gaming scene in November. "We certainly don’t think it’s necessary to make any changes to the current price point” said he. Those of you who disagree, say nay!

Rumor: Final Fantasy XIII for Xbox 360?

Square Enix recently unwrapped details on their new franchise focused on the Final Fantasy series called Fabula Nova Crystallis - Final Fantasy XIII. The 3 titles - FFXIII, FF Versus XIII and FFXIII Agito - are all currently in development, with the first two being already confirmed for a planned release on the Playstation 3.

Due to Square Enix's association with Microsoft (Final Fantasy XI), rumors are now flying that one or more of the 'Fabula' titles could be heading for the Xbox 360 or Xbox Live Arcade. Possible confirmation of this can be found from a quote by Yochi Wada, Square Enix President, who stated "We plan on solidifying our plans by E3 to offer both on the PS3 and Xbox 360, or place both on just one [system]."

Obviously, E3 has now passed, but there is still an anonymous source (that has been right with information before) that say it is still going to happen.

My opinion? Well, it's certainly possible. After all, the franchise is already multi-platform, and the concepts for the Playstation 3 titles have yet to be approved by Sony; thus, no confirmed exclusivity. But my question is, why not confirm this at E3 if it was happening?

In conclusion, you can make sure that regardless of the outcome, QJ will let you know the truth when it surfaces.

Real Life Halo: Drive a Warthog

t seems that someone important over at the designs offices of French car manufacturer, Peugeot, owns an Xbox and is most likely addicted to it. For those who are wishing and hoping to get behind the wheel of a Warthog, brace yourself. You might just get what you're asking for. Peugeot recently came up with a prototype--dubbed as the Hoggar--which is a concept dune buggy. This baby has an eerie resemblance with the said Halo vehicle.

But reality awaits. Since this one is a prototype, it won't be surprising if only a few of these would be produced since most probably hardcore gamers and collectors (with really deep pockets) would purchase this one. From the looks of it, this baby will not see the light of mass production because by just looking at it, it looks really expensive. With that, I guess you do not need to penny-pinch, rob a bank, or engage in other big money-making schemes (ha,ha!).

The details about the car such as its suspension, features, and how it runs was not revealed by the French car maker. I guess all we could do is gaze at the pictures, and be green with envy. Now, see for yourself the resemblance of the Halo Warthog (left pic below) and the Peugeot Hoggar (right pic). Click on the thumbprints for a better look.

Microsoft's Xbox 360 Changes Disk Drives

The acquisition of BenQ's optical disk drives (ODD) portfolio led Lite-On IT to land crucial loader orders for MS' Xbox 360 gaming console with the shipments slated to start in the third quarter, as said by the company itself. The company inherited the loader orders from the Taiwan-based BenQ and recently gained the needed validation from Microsoft.

BenQ allegedly grabbed the loader deals in January because of its joint effort with Philips, which was dubbed as the Philips BenQ Digital Storage (PBDS). And to continue our short trip about the Xbox's loader history, before PBDS, Hitachi LG Data Storage was the sole OEM maker of DVD-ROM drive modules for the 360 console.

So it looks like the Xbox 360 is getting a DVD-ROM makeover. Whether this new development will strengthen the performance of the MS gaming console is something that we will know in the near future. But, as always, we will keep you posted for new developments.

Prey gets demo on June 22

3D Realms today revealed that the demo for the long-awaited first person shooter will appear on Xbox Live Marketplace on June 22. It will include 5 levels of the game, with both single-player and multi-player modes enabled - no information has been given out regarding what levels we're talking about exactly. We also don't have an idea about the file size yet either, but expect details like these to follow in the coming weeks.

Players will then be able to fully explore the mysterious Sphere with the game's protagonist Tommy on July 10. Prey has come a long, long way since development started in 1995, a way bearing some resemblance to the Duke Nukem Forever's except that in this case you'll still be among the living when the game gets released.

Stay tuned for more updates, we'll let you know once the demo's up.

Activision brings Spiderman 3 to the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Spiderman will again be protecting the City of Manhattan this time against the Sandman and an alien symbiote (Venom?!).

Since the game is is still in production, there's not much details on the gameplay yet. However, that doesn't mean there are no sneak peeks as well. QJ has the latest Spiderman 3 trailer for your viewing pleasure.

Reports say that this time out, the web-slinger will be donned in black both in the movie and the videogame. However, the trailer still show the superhero in his usual red and blue costume. I guess we have to wait a year before we confirm what the web-slinger will be wearing. Meanwhile, click the download link and see Spidey in action.

First Screens for Rayman Raving Rabbids

As you probably already know, Rayman is stepping into the next-gen platforms with its fourth installment from Ubisoft. In the latest Rayman title, Rayman Raving Rabbids, a horde of crazy rabbits has taken over the land and who else is there to save the world but Rayman.

This open world-oriented (as opposed to previous titles' linearity) game will feature 10 worlds to roam and six animals which Rayman can ride to make his travel easier. But don't think these animals (among them are a giant spider, an eagle, and a shark) will be willing to help our hero. He needs to battle and tame them before they let him on their backs.

The game is expected to come out this summer. Until then, enjoy these first set of screens for the upcoming Rayman game. If you think they're not enough, don't worry, we'll dish out more the moment we get our hands on additional Rayman Raging Rabbids material.

http://xbox360.qj.net/What-s-Up-With-the-Project-Fantasy360-Console-/pg/49/aid/42086

Here is some updates on Project Fantasy 360. The guys behind the project, in their aim to score a big hit with this one, provided ten reasons why we should go ahead and buy a Fantasy360 Console, here's that list:

--Because Xtreme Enterprise has a history of producing strong brands such as the Asterix faceplates for PSP and the Rainbow Controllers for the first-gen Xbox
--Because these are the coolest colors on the Xbox360 planet
--Because you'll be owning a piece of art that will be talked about in years to come
--Because we provide online installation instructions with pictorial guides
--Because we have colored wireless controller cases to match
--Because our quality is top-notched with OEM quality
--Because the vendor does not make them in our colors
--Because the vendor does not produce them with water-cooled project options
--Because your friends and neighbors (parents and kids) are going to envy you
--Because it melts in your hearts, not in your hands

Well, we don't know about that. But it is still up to you --the gamers-- to come up with your own reasons to buy (or to diss) the Fantasy360 Console. Anyways, in their latest press release, Extreme Tech Asia wanted to provide future supporters the technical know-how for taking apart your Xbox 360 (if you are willing to do that to your baby, that is). Also, they are encouraging those interested to know more about case modding.

Aquatic Fish Simulator

We thought we had seen every kind of simulation game possible. The Sims simulated people, RollerCoaster Tycoon simulated theme parks, Nintendogs simulated puppies, and soon-to-be Spore simulates the entire galaxy. Now we can add AquaZone to the crazy mix of simulations.

AquaZone is an (un)popular computer and cell phone game in which the player raises and cares for fish. The game is now branching out to the X-Box 360. In this upcoming variation, 14 types of fish will be available in HD for you to nurture and love within the confines of a fish tank.

It is every gamer's dream to relive the experience of their pet Cha-Cha the Fish's death. What I'd like to know is, does this game have a flush-down-the-toilet feature, or do they just stay floating belly-up?
