Lenovo Brings Linux® Certification to ThinkPad and ThinkStation Workstation Portfolio, Easing Deployment for Developers & Data Scientists
Now, I’m excited to share Lenovo is moving to certify the full workstation portfolio for top Linux distributions from Ubuntu® and Red Hat® – every model, every configuration.
For the users deploying Linux on a desktop or mobile workstation, Lenovo has historically certified only certain products with a limited subset of hardware configurations. Our entire portfolio of ThinkStation and ThinkPad P Series workstations will now be certified via both Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Ubuntu LTS – a long-term, enterprise-stability variant of the popular Ubuntu Linux distribution. This total certification will assure users their workstation investment is tried, tested and officially verified.

CentOS Linux 8 will end in 2021 and shifts focus to CentOS Stream
Red Hat “mata” a distribuição Linux CentOS!

https://rockylinux.org/
https://github.com/rocky-linux/rocky

A Reh Hat a tentar fazer marcha-atrás:
No-cost RHEL for small production workloads
While CentOS Linux provided a no-cost Linux distribution, no-cost RHEL also exists today through the Red Hat Developer program. The program’s terms formerly limited its use to single-machine developers. We recognized this was a challenging limitation.

We’re addressing this by expanding the terms of the Red Hat Developer program so that the Individual Developer subscription for RHEL can be used in production for up to 16 systems. That’s exactly what it sounds like: for small production use cases, this is no-cost, self-supported RHEL. You need only to sign in with a free Red Hat account (or via single sign-on through GitHub, Twitter, Facebook, and other accounts) to download RHEL and receive updates. Nothing else is required. This isn’t a sales program and no sales representative will follow up. An option will exist within the subscription to easily upgrade to full support, but that’s up to you.

You can also use the expanded Red Hat Developer program to run RHEL on major public clouds including AWS, Google Cloud Platform, and Microsoft Azure. You have to pay only the usual hosting fees charged by your provider of choice; the operating system is free for both development and small production workloads.

The updated Individual Developer subscription for RHEL will be available no later than February 1, 2021.

Mesa Vulkan Drivers Get A Common Dispatch Framework For Better Code Sharing
Up to now all five Mesa Vulkan drivers (Intel ANV, Radeon RADV, Broadcom V3DV, Freedreno TURNIP, and Lavapipe) all of them have had their own slightly modified version of Intel's entrypoint generator script. Intel ANV lead developer Jason Ekstrand has taken now to avoiding this unnecessary code duplication between drivers and finally working towards a unified Vulkan entry points setup.
Besides unifying things and avoiding unnecessary code duplication, the work also shows how there can be "100% common implementations" of certain Vulkan extensions where all the driver has to do is advertise the support for the common extension.
Already at this stage the unifying to a common dispatch framework for Vulkan drivers has lightened the codebase by more than two thousand lines of code (+3.3k, -5.9k). Great seeing the unification take place now and hopefully allow for more code sharing moving forward.

Proposal Raised For Dropping Mesa's Classic OpenGL Drivers From Mainline This Year
Mesa developer Dylan Baker has brought up the idea of removing the classic drivers from Mesa master following next quarter's 21.1 release. The Mesa 21.1 branch would then be forked after Mesa 21.1 is EOL'ed to create a "classic-lts" branch. That classic-lts branch would disable the Gallium3D and Vulkan drivers to just focus on these classic drivers. That branch in turn would only see new build and critical bug fixes.
Of the classic DRI drivers around are i915, i965, r100, and r200. Since the Radeon R300/R600 days there has been the Radeon Gallium3D code, Intel's Iris Gallium3D driver provides good OpenGL support since Broadwell, and the other smaller drivers are also all Gallium3D based.
The main pain point to this proposal would be for those still relying upon pre-Broadwell Intel graphics where the Iris Gallium3D driver is not supported. There has been talk of potentially reviving the i915g driver and even coming up with another Intel Gallium3D driver for i965 through Haswell, but hasn't been much of an effort and remains to be seen.

The Intel "Crocus" Gallium3D driver in development for supporting old Intel i965 IGPs through Haswell continues making progress by the upstream, open-source Mesa3D community for hopefully one day replacing Intel's classic "i965" Mesa driver.

Running The New Intel OpenGL "Crocus" Gallium3D Driver On Sandy Bridge

Screenshot-2021-06-22-Running-The-New-Intel-Open-GL-Crocus-Gallium3-D-Driver-On-Sandy-Bridge-Phoroni.png

Long story short, Crocus is working for Sandy Bridge but wasn't nearly as competitive to i965 as what we saw during our initial testing with Haswell graphics. Haswell on Crocus appears to be in much better shape and in relation to the i965 classic driver than Sandy Bridge, but with time Crocus will likely improve as well on these older Intel Gen graphics. Especially if Mesa developers move ahead in dropping the classic drivers from the mainline tree, Crocus will likely need to show it can be a viable replacement to i965.
