VIA might abandon chipset business
Unconfirmed rumours have been spread like wild fire that VIA, famous for its KT266 followed by "A" KT266A, KT333, KT400A might abandoned their desktop chipset plans and concentrate on other businesses.
Sources from various companies familiar with VIA chipsets indicated to us that the new chipsets are being removed from its roadmap.
If that is the case, we will be left with SiS as the only Taiwanese chipset maker for desktop boards especially for the Intel LGA775 processors.
Current chipset makers are AMD (acquired ATi), INTEL, SIS, and NVIDIA (acquired ULi).

VIA rumored to leave chipset business
Rumorville citizens are very active in these hot summer days and the latest info to come from these 'undisclosed sources' is that VIA may stop designing and manufacturing chipsets. Although its has enjoyed a golden era in the days of the Slot A and Socket A Athlons, VIA has seen the competition take the market by storm and pushing it towards the bottom of the pit.
Low sales and low interest are the reasons for this dark though that, according to some, has already led to the cancellation of a few chipsets that we're in development and slated for release later this year. The word is now out, we just have to wait and see whether it turns out to be true.
