OS X (Ten - dez em romano) é o sistema operativo usado pela Apple nas suas máquinas (aka mac). Deriva do BSD que por sua vez assenta numa base Unix.

A principal framework para o OS X é o Cocoa, e a linguagem o Objective-C.

Esta combinação de tecnologias externas deriva do facto do Steve Jobs, antes de regressar à Apple ter adquirido a NEXT, empresa que detinha um sistema operativo (NEXT-STEP) que apontava nesta direcção, estendendo a filosofia dos objectos à linguagem C.

Até agora mais nenhuma empresa/release OPenSource apostou nesta combinação, sendo que as questões de licenciamento estariam na ordem do dia. Esta aposta nesta combinação de tecnologias free (BSD) e num layer de programação visual por objectos levou a um corte radical com versões anteriores de sistema operativo, o Mac OS 9 e ao desenvolvimento de Frameworks que tornam o desenvolvimento de aplicações para MAcos X "a piece of cake".

A versão actual tem o nome de Tiger, e a próxima versão (sai em Outubro) terá o nome de Leopard.

A versão actual tem o nome de Leopard e a próxima versão será a Snow Leopard que como o nome indica, será um Leopard diferente, apostado na optimização e redução de dimensão geral.

A versão actual tem o nome de Snow Leopard, um leopard "melhorado", com várias adições under the hood que tornam o sistema operativo tão "melhor como qualquer um" ;).

- Exchange support
- Quicktime com suporte integrado de flv
- Suporte melhorado para multithreaded programing,
- Utilização melhorada das linguagens de programação de GPU, utilizando o standard OpenCL
- dicionário multilíngua de sistema, que permite escrever um texto em várias linguas, e estas serem todas reconhecidas e corrigidas
- Agora além de cafés, tira descafeinados.

Encontrei aqui shortcuts bastante úteis, caso do que esconde o Dock, que é sempre bom quando ele nos está a atrapalhar, e poupa trabalho de ir ao system preferences.

Pequena, mas poderosa aplicação para criar scripts que podem fazer variadas coisas. Desde pegar num ficheiro e mandar automaticamente para um ftp; ou pegar em imagens e fazer um bach resize; etc.
