Novas imagens:A few weeks ago we sat down with Jesse Abney to quiz him about the upcoming Need for Speed SHIFT announcement. The article proved immensely popular but clearly there’s a thirst for any info about the game as the article prompted many more people to write in with even more questions. We found some more time with Jesse so posed the most popular questions to him.
Are there cops in the game?
No. The Need for Speed franchise is now comprised of three pillars that represent Action, Simulation, and Arcade. SHIFT is an event based track racing simulation. Slightly Mad Studios are not creating a sterile simulator however, rather a fun and authentic race designed to replicate the True Driver’s Experience.
Is the gaming being released on PS2?
No. SHIFT is a ‘next-generation’ experience and the tech requirements of Slightly Mad’s simulator exceed the power available with the PS2.
Can you tell me if Need for Speed SHIFT will include the use of NOS in the cars?
Nitrous will be a performance component to upgrade. It will also be tunable, but you should expect it to operate more like professional racing and not action racing.
Is Need for Speed SHIFT like other Need for Speed games where you race on the streets?
Need for Speed SHIFT is rooted in professional racing. The car types and liveries are more based in what is seen in those circuits than in fiction. The career (and online) play will span across both renowned Grand Prix tracks and fictional street courses.
Is there going to be Free-roam mode in SHIFT?
No; as we’ve mentioned a few times already SHIFT is an authentic racing game, based around closed track racing around the world so there won’t be any Free-roam mode.
Does the driving feel realistic or is it arcade like the NFS predecessors?
Slightly Mad’s physics engine is highly-advanced and calculates manufacturer chassis information with industry-leading realism. Performance parts customization and tuning are available in a much more complex way for example there are options for interior customization to drop weight in your favorite car as well as specific tuning prior to drifting or race events.
If the car gets say a puncture can we limp to the pit and fix it?
This is a traditional design challenge – how to balance realism with fun as they’re usually opposing forces when dealing with this disconnect in video game driving. Too many people are punished in pure simulators. The design intent in SHIFT is to keep the game fun but also provide flexibility to keep the most expert players challenged. Difficulty presets, an adaptive gameplay system, as well as individual driving options will provide more complex customization.
I was wondering if you could tell me what type of peripherals and wheels will be supported for the game?
A wide range; SMS have a great interest in supporting even the newest driving devices and they always put a lot of time and effort into this aspect of the drive particularly for the PC experience.
Does Shift include Formula 1 cars too?
We can’t answer this just yet as we’re not talking about the car lists at the moment but we do have some surprises and firsts for the Need for Speed series planned. Expect to hear about some of these very soon!
Will Drift be available as a race event in SHIFT?
Yes, Drift is a key aspect to our career event structure and is supported by the physics engine.
With the game being about pro-racing will you be including any real world courses in the game?
Absolutely, the game is a mix of famous tracks from around the world and fictional ones. The cues taken to deliver and authentic driver experience come from the international race circuits of the world both in notable locations like Brands Hatch, as well as creative liberties taken to create awesome fictitious track locations like the London circuit.
The previews mentioned cars being customizable; will this extend to advanced setup options such as gear ratios, aero settings, brake bias and so on like the other PC race simulations?
Performance customization and tuning will be more in depth than ever before and will provide tuning options for areas like alignment, aero, tires and brakes, differential, and gears prior-to a race event.
Will there be separate modes to appeal to those who want absolute realism and those who want something easier?
The design intent for SHIFT is to keep the game accessible to everyone but to also provide flexibility to keep the most expert players challenged. Difficulty presets, an adaptive gameplay system, as well as individual driving options will provide more complex customization.
Is this game going to be like Pro Street?
In much the same way as Pro Street was based on close course, racing events, yes. Slightly Mad Studios have an award-winning background in creating authentic racing games. Their ability in this area has created a best-in-class physics, visual and architecture engine.
Can you tell us something about hardware requirements?
SHIFT will really shine on the latest hardware configs, but SMS are not relying on the newest standards to drive their visual and performance engine. DX 9a features and fully scalable graphics options should allow a great balance of performance and visual quality.
Will be in Need for Speed: Shift any licensed custom parts?
I believe so yes. It should feature a long and extensive list of aftermarket parts that mirror real world professional racing.
