O cliente GPU do Folding@Home está prestes a sair. Estará disponível no fim de Setembro (se não houver atrasos).
Este cliente, apenas funciona com as ATi's X1k, e claro...é exclusivo ao F@H.
Está toda a gente a ficar impaciente por esse dia.

Wierd so funcionar com essas ATI's, pq eu fui ao site do Folding e tava lá um Benchmark feito com uma 9800 XT ...
Tens a certeza? é q isso era fixe, assim tinha o Boinc a dar-lhe no CPU e o Folding No GPU, e sim a minha placa é mesmo uma 9800 XT, e o meu pc anda todo marado com o cpu a dar o berro a 1800mhz...

Não é possível(a menos que os anúncios do F@H estejam errados), as 9800 funcionarem, pois se não estou em erro, o floating-point operation destas é de 24bits. Para o cliente funcionar necessita de suportar operações de 32 bits, algo que só se tornou possível realizar com as X1k (X1800 e X1900).
Mas fui procurar e encontrei exactamente o mesmo:
Andei muitas vezes pela GPGPU, e nunca vi nada que indicasse que as 9800, x800, etc. .... pudessem suportar esse tipo de processamento...Mas posso estar enganado.

Which GPUs will be supported? We have not made any final decisions on this issue. However, our software will likely require the very latest GPUs from ATI (especially now that the newest ATI GPUs support 32 bit floating point operations). Previous work of ours used NVIDIA GPUs as well, but we have now concentrated on ATI GPU's as they allow for significant performance increases for FAH over NVIDIA's GPU's (at least at the current generation). Our GPU cluster has 25 1900XT's and 25 1900 XTX's. We find a considerable performance increase of 1900XT's even over 1800XT's, due to the architectural differences between the R580 and R520 GPU's. Our code will run on R520's, but considerably more slowly than R580. We're very much looking forward to trying out R600's.
We have been investigating this with our collaborators Prof. Pat Hanrahan (Stanford University, Computer Science Dept) and Prof. Eric Darve (Stanford University, Mechanical Engineering Dept) and their groups. Prof. Hanrahan's group has pioneered methods for programming GPUs with the Brook streaming computer language and Prof. Darve's group has written other applications using Brook including an earlier MD code (streamMD). There have been several incarnations of our GPU code for MD. The most recent versions were written and optimized by V. Vishal. Optimization is the most challenging issue, as running on GPU's is now straightforward, but achieving high performance is still an extremely demanding task.

O cliente F@H precisa de uma precisão de 32-bits, o que as 9800, X800 não têm (estas 24-bits);o que não invalida elas possam ser utilizadas com este tipo de linguagem (em outros programas), mas no caso do F@H "faltam-lhe" os 8-bits "suplementares".
Lembrei-me ontem à noite (depois de ter saído), que o cliente foi escrito para suportar apenas PCI-E. Desta forma as 9800,9700,9600,9500 ficam de parte; e como sabem as Xx00 são versões PCI-E das mesmas, e a nível de tecnologia quase são iguais. Como sabem, a gama X1kx foi um produto realmente novo da ATi; já que os produtos anteriores a estas eram meras actualizações.
Vi isto:
Eu tenho uma quase igual a tua (mas tem -4 pipelines ... 9600
), e também a queria aproveitar, mas já cheguei à conclusão que não vai dar. Era bom que estivesse enganado, porque há muita gente com gráficas destas.
Vou procurar saber mais, ainda assim. Depois digo alguma coisa.
