Poco X5 Pro leaks with Snapdragon 778G, vanilla X5 with Snapdragon 695 follows

A week ago the upcoming Poco X5 was spotted in the hands of a cricket star, but did you know that there is a Pro version on the way as well? That was news to us too, but a European retailer already list the device as “coming soon” and has posted an almost complete specs sheet.

The Xiaomi Poco X5 Pro has a 6.67” AMOLED display with 1,080 x 2,400px resolution (20:9), according to the retailer. The refresh rate isn’t mentioned, unfortunately, but it should be 120Hz like the Poco X4 Pro.

Anyway, the phone is powered by the Snapdragon 778G, a solid all-round upgrade over the 695 found inside the X4 Pro. The retailer list two memory configurations – 6/128GB and 8/256GB – both of which have a microSD card slot. The phone apparently runs Android 12 with MIUI 14 for Poco.

The main camera features a large 108MP 1/1.52” image sensor (0.7µm pixels) with an f/1.9 aperture like last year’s model. Thanks to the upgraded chipset, however, 4K video recording is now possible (at 30fps, but still). The other cameras on the back are an 8MP ultra wide (118°) and a 2MP macro. On the front, a 16MP selfie camera.

The power system is the same as before with a large 5,000mAh battery and 67W wired-only charging. For protection, there is Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and an IP68 rating – that last part doesn’t sound like Poco’s MO, so it might be a mistake on the spec sheet (the X4 Pro is rated for only IP53).

There’s no word on the price yet. At launch the X4 Pro was €300 for a 6/128GB model (a little less with early bird pricing) and €350 for the 8/256GB one. Overall, the Poco X5 Pro doesn’t seem to change much, but that Snapdragon 778G will have a big impact on performance. As for colors, you will have three choices: Blue, Black and, of course, Poco Yellow.

The retailer also lists details for the Xiaomi Poco X5. This one sticks to the Snapdragon 695 (as seen in Geekbench) and has a 6.67” AMOLED display (1,080 x 2,400px) with 120Hz refresh rate, which makes us think the Pro has a 120Hz display as well. The base X5 has only an IP54 rating, which sounds more believable.

This vanilla model is similar to the Pro, though with some downgrades, starting with the 48MP main camera, which is still joined by an 8MP ultra wide (118°) and 2MP macro (don’t count on 4K, however). The selfie camera is down to 13MP.

Another change is to the battery – the capacity remains at 5,000mAh, the charge speed drops to 33W.

Like its sibling, the Poco X5 is listed with 6/128GB and 8/256GB configurations (expandable with a microSD). There is no pricing info and no Poco X4 to use as a guide. The X5 offers three color choices: Green, Blue and Black.

Note: the Poco X5 Pro image looks identical to the X4 Pro. Maybe Xiaomi didn’t change the design, maybe the retailer reused an old image. The specs seem very close to the Redmi Note 12 Pro Speed.

As for the vanilla X5, the image looks remarkably like the Redmi K50i though the specs have little in common (plus, the listed colorways don't match the images). The specs are much closer to the Redmi Note 12, save for the chipset.

Poco X5 has all of its specs leaked, won't be launched in India

Yesterday Poco India officially announced that the Poco X5 Pro will be launching in the country on February 6. Missing from that reveal was any mention of the non-Pro Poco X5, and according to a new leak today, that's for good reason.

It turns out that the Poco X5 won't be launching in India alongside its Pro sibling. Instead, we'll see the X5 in Europe. So now the question is - will the X5 Pro be available in Europe too, or just India? There's no answer to this yet, but at the rate the leaks are going we'll surely find out in a few days at most.

Regardless of that, the Poco X5 is apparently headed to Europe, and a full spec sheet for it has been leaked courtesy of some marketing materials today. The phone is coming with a 6.67-inch 1080x2400 120 Hz AMOLED touchscreen with 240 Hz touch sampling rate and 1200-nit peak brightness. The panel is Low Blue Light certified and covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color space.

The Poco X5 also boasts a 48 MP main camera, an 8 MP ultrawide, and a 2 MP macro, as well as a 13 MP shooter for selfies. The battery is a 5,000 mAh cell with 33W wired charging support. At the helm is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 695 SoC.

The Poco X series typically delivers a high refresh rate screen, a large, fast-charging battery and a value for money chipset (leaving flagship performance to the F-phones). The X5 series checks all those boxes and while the camera is rarely the focus, the new Pro model flaunts a 108MP sensor. This time around there is a vanilla phone too, but we’ll get to it.

The Xiaomi Poco X5 Pro is a direct successor to the X4 Pro from around this time last year. The chassis has been slimmed down, in fact, at 7.9mm it is the thinnest X-phone yet (and third thinnest in the Poco family, beaten only by a couple of F-phones).

The main upgrade this generation is the Snapdragon 778G – the 6nm chip (TSMC) with a flagship-grade Adreno 642L GPU. The new chipset is significantly faster across the board compared to the Snapdragon 695 that powered the X4 Pro.

This year Xiaomi also equipped the Pro with double the base storage, 128GB, but kept the base RAM at 6GB. There is an 8/256GB option if you need more of both (in either case they LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage). The phone runs Android 12 with MIUI 14 for Poco out of the box.

The display is another upgrade. It is still a 6.67” AMOLED panel with 1,080 x 2,400px resolution, 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate. However, it now renders 10-bit color with 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space. The display is brighter to boot, reaching 900 nits peak (up from 700 nits). Dimming is handled by a high frequency 1,920Hz PWM system. Protection is still provided by Gorilla Glass 5.

The camera system is the same, as far as the cameras are concerned. This means that the main module features a 108MP 1/1.52” sensor, which is joined by an 8MP ultra wide-angle module (120°) and a 2MP macro camera, plus a 16MP camera on the front.

The 108MP main camera gains 4K video recording thanks to the faster chipset

This is not to say that the camera is without improvement – the Snapdragon 778G brings a faster ISP (2 gigapixels per second) and a more powerful NPU (12 TOPS). The most obvious upgrade is enabling 4K video recording (up from 1080p@30fps on its predecessor, embarrassing for a Pro phone). Additionally, using the camera is faster too, e.g. taking a photo is 69% faster, night mode has been sped up by 38%.

The new chipset also enables faster local connectivity with Wi-Fi 6 (ax) and Bluetooth 5.2 (up from Wi-Fi 5 and BT 5.1). Additionally, there is a 3.5mm headphone jack, an IR blaster and (in some regions, at least) NFC.

The phone also has a USB-C port that refuels the 5,000mAh battery at 67W using the included charger.

The Xiaomi Poco X5 keeps the Snapdragon 695 chipset of the X4 Pro but has double the base storage at 128GB. Like the new Pro, it also has an 8/256GB version and does one better – it has a microSD slot for up to 1TB more (note this phone has a hybrid card slot). The vanilla model launches with the older MIUI 13 for Poco out of the box.

The display is 6.67” in size with the same FHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate as the Pro. However, it is an 8-bit panel and uses the older Gorilla Glass 3. That said, peak brightness is even higher, reaching a peak of 1,200 nits.

The camera and battery are more akin to what a hypothetical vanilla Poco X4 might have been (Xiaomi never released such a phone). It has a 48MP main camera (capped to 1080p video capture due to the chipset), an 8MP ultra wide (118°) and a 2MP macro, plus a 13MP selfie camera on the front.

The battery is the same capacity, 5,000mAh, though the charging speed is down to 33W. You still get a charger in the box, though, a 33W adapter that can do a 0-100% in 68 minutes.

While wireless connectivity is somewhat older than the Pro (Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1), the X5 still features a 3.5mm headphone jack, an IR blaster and (in some regions) NFC.
