Hot on the heels of winning game of the year at the Game Developers Choice Awards at GDC, Portal's lead designer Kimberley Swift revealed that a full-fledged sequel is in the works. During an interview with G4, Swift was asked about the possibility and replied that Valve's Director of Marketing, Doug Lombardi, has announced Portal 2.

Given the success of Portal, a sequel is in no way surprising, but it is nice to see that it will be a full blown follow-up instead of just a download of extra content. The question is how the game will be released on consoles; the original was of course part of the Orange Box, which also included the Half-Life 2 games and Team Fortress 2, and sold as a retail product. While it will most definitely be available to download to PC users through Steam, it would be nice to see Valve distribute the game on Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network as well.
