O mais recente rumor do Inquirer faz muito sentido.
Quase apostaria que de facto será desta forma que
a Intel descalçará a bota.

Prescott com AMD64??? Não! Será um extended x86-64
compatível com AMD. :D
REsumindo, será de 64 bits mas melhor que os 64 do Athlon64.
Hummm!!!! Não é mau para o marketing, não senhor.

ONE OF THE the biggest stories out of the AMD launch comes not from AMD itself, but from Intel, or at least about Intel. Since we told you about Prescott being 64 bit last week (see here), the burning question in everyones mind is what instruction set will they use? Would it be Itanic, AMD64, something new and different, or one changed just enough to be incompatible like SSE and 3DNow were.
If you think Intel would eat its own shoes before it adopted AMD64, guess again, it will be compatible with AMD64. If you doubt this, think about one thing, why this is happening. It is not Intel's doing, not by a long shot. While it may use a different name, like the old x86-64, or even Extended x86, it will run all the software that AMD does. Mmmmm, shoes are tasty.

So, why is this again? Simple, MS. Microsoft will not support a different 64 bit platform, and frankly I don't blame them, it costs a lot of money to do that. MS gave Intel the choice, support AMDs instruction set, or do without Windows. MS won that battle pretty handily.
 
Epá, quando li a notícia no Inquirer (agora mesmo) vim logo ver quem a já tinha lido. E parece que não fui o 1º. ;)
Sentí um grande alívio quando li a notícia, pois acho que é a 1ª vez que a M$ é amiga do consumidor. Quem ganha mais acaba sempre por ser a M$, mas cá o je agradece! :)
 
Exactamente o que eu desconfiava, mas custava-me a acreditar! :)

A Intel tem poder para fazer isto à vontade... Vamos ver é se os x86-64 do Prescott serão tão rápidos quanto os dos Opteron/A64/A64FX...

hehehehe... eu sabia que eles não iriam ficar para trás em nada! ;)

DETAILS HAVE EMERGED of the future design of Intel’s Tejas/Pentium V processor, and of how the chip firm will present it to the world.
The chip will sample internally at Intel in January 2004 and will take between four to six months to get to market. The Pentium 6 will follow a very similar schedule.

The Pentium V is likely to fly along at between 5GHz to 7GHz, have 2MB plus of level two cache, be built on a 90 nanometer process, and have a stackable design.

The processor we believe, sits in the LGA 775 pin socket, and above it is a very thin heatsink. But, according to sources close to the firm’s plans, another permeable heatsink can sit between this and another microprocessor module, giving a stackable design.

The final design of this arrangement is not set in stone.

According to this source, and the details have not been confirmed a module sitting on top could provide 64-bit extensions.

And the source claimed, Microsoft is ready to launch a version of Windows called Elements with 64-bit extensions.

The idea seems to be that people can buy a 32-bit module, and then add in the 64-bit processor.

There are three samples of an arrangement of the Pentium V here in Taiwan this week, with a very thin processor and lots of wires and patches stuck on it, just to show proof of concept.

The Pentium V could have a front side bus speed of as much as 4000MHz, the source claimed, although this may be reserved for the next chip along, the Nehalem.

Temos a agradecer à MS, porque não só poupa € como "salvou" a AMD e o final user duma grande confusão. Ao mesmo tempo, vai acelerar a adopção dos 64 bits por parte da indústria.

Só não percebi se vêm já no Prescott (activos) ou só no Tejas. Se vierem já no Precott de certa forma retiram a exclusividade à AMD e uma forte arma de marketing desta, mas é bem melhor do q se fosse concorrente e incompatível. A AMD continua a ser pioneira mas é claro q a Intel tinha q "alterar/adicionar" as instruções e dar-lhe outro nome, mesmo q compatível. No entanto não deixa de ser um sapato que a intel trinca.

yep a ser verdade nos (consumidor final) e AMD so ficamos a ganhar, assim como a Intel claro!

Não será apenas um pouco de marketing de parte da INTEL para não parecer k está aflita?:rolleyes:

Porque nunca divulgou antes isto, apens agora quanto tudo está do lado da AMD?

Vamos esperar para ver pois, cpu's com 5/7Ghz e Fsb com 1000Mhz parece mesmo muito............................

Vamos esperar, lembram-se k ainda existe problemas com o prescott............este ainda não sai, não existe samples e já falam do P5 ligado a diversos fios, mais parece cpu ainda em diversos teste mas apenas para mostrar aos consumidores que não estam a dormir............

Vamos ter muitas noticias a partir de hoje acerca destes dois........

A versão do xp 64 bits Itanium chama-se: "Microsoft® Windows® XP 64-Bit Edition For 64-Bit Itanium"

A versão do xp 64 bits A64/Opteron chama-se:
"Microsoft® Windows® XP 64-Bit Edition For 64-Bit Extended Systems"

É estranho não se chamar AMD64 ou Athlon64 edition..........just a thought.
 
Eu sinceramente duvido muito que em 3 de Dezembro tenhamos Prescott's com 64bit.

Mas como nada é impossivel, vamos esperar para ver. Finalmente alguem faz o gigante tropeçar e acelerar o passo!
