The OPM, Official Playstation Magazine, has today revealed in its latest issue that Left 4 Dead will indeed be coming to Playstation3. It will be ported, once again, by EA. Quote:

"Valve's survival horror game Left 4 Dead is coming to PS3, but EA will be taking on development duties in-house."

The Orange Box PS3 has been one catastrophic port. For these past 8 months, PS3 gamers have repeatedly expressed their disgust and anger towards both EA and VALVE, asking for a fix. Even a petition started by Mike Seedon was published on this website: http://orangeboxpetition.com/

Will PS3 gamers do the same mistake twice? I do not think so.

Eu adquiri a Orange Box PS3 recentemente e apesar dos problemas de framerate serem evidentes, especialmente no HL2:Episode 1, todos os jogos contidos no disco são perfeitamente jogáveis e foi provavelmente a única forma de eu ter contacto com a série Hal-Life 2.

Sinceramente estava à espera de muito pior, depois dos depoimentos que fui lendo pela internet.

Este Left4Dead promete ser um grande título online e só posso ficar contente por a PS3 ir receber uma versão do mesmo.

US, August 4, 2008 - While there have been rumors circulating the Internet that claim that Left 4 Dead, Valve's upcoming zombie-filled shooter for the PC and 360, would be coming to the PS3, it looks like there's no truth behind them. We contacted Doug Lombardi from Valve to comment on the rumor and his response was clear: "there is no PS3 version of Left 4 Dead currently in production."

It appears that PS3 owners are out of luck -- at least for now.

Valve doesn't do PS3. The company's co-founder Gabe Newell isn't a fan, and hasn't been afraid to say so. But Valve's Doug Lombardi has told CVG today that PS3 support could be on the cards as the platforms recent success has raised some eyebrows.

"We're always evaluating what's happening in the marketplace and certainly something that's happening in the last couple of months is that Sony's managed to sell some boxes," said Lombardi.

"So whether or not you like developing for that platform, if they've got millions of people connected to that platform and buying their games you have to take it seriously."

He went on: "They're in the race now, so we've got to re-evaluate that for what it is."

PC is still its primary format, reaffirmed Lombardi, explaining that hardware similarities makes 360 its second choice.

But what are the chances of Valve opening its arms to PS3 and showing it some Left 4 Dead love? "50-50 right now," said Lombardi.

"There's zero chance of it happening this year. It's something that's being talked about right now as the game is gaining popularity and looking like it's going to be a hit."

A 50 percent chance one of the most highly respected PC developers will work on PS3? We'll take those odds.

Left 4 Dead pode muito bem vir a ser um dos melhores jogos online do ano, vindo de quem vem. Só não percebo porque a Valve não faz a versão da PS3 e deixa para a EA...

Só resta rezar que a EA não faça o mesmo erro duas vezes.

So, looks like Valve cannot ignore the success of the PS3 anymore. Gabe Newell, head of the critically acclaimed studio sparked a bit of controversy when he repeatedly attacked the PS3's difficult development architecture, calling it a "waste of time." His studio refused to work on a PS3 version of The Orange Box, leaving it to EA to do the eventual PS3 port.

However, it looks like the continued success of the PS3 has the studio taking back some of his words. While there's "zero chance" for a PS3 version of the upcoming zombie multiplayer game Left 4 Dead this year, there's now a "50-50" chance that it will happen some time next year. While we're fans of Valve's work, we're not entirely sure if the PS3 audience will welcome them with open arms.

Foi a EA que fez o port do Orange Box para a PS3.
Pelo menos a EA tentou... agora a Valve não se deu ao trabalho. Mas agora como lhe cheira a notas, já querem desenvolver para PS3...
 
O desprezo ou o respeito em qualquer negócio tem a ver mais com a possibilidade de encher os bolsos do que qualquer preconceito para com uma marca. A Valve se achar que lhe é vantajoso fazer versões para a PS3 se calhar até começa a dizer que é a plataforma melhor para se desenvolver jogos, etc,etc...
 
Depois de Gabe Newell ter afirmado que Left 4 Dead é e será um exclusivo Xbox 360 e PC, agora chegou a vez de Doug Lombardi admitir que ainda existem possibilidades de se desenvolver uma versão Playstation 3.

"Estamos sempre a estudar as condições de mercado e actualmente, desde há uns meses para cá, que a Sony está a conseguir vender consolas. Se eles têem milhões de utilizadores conectados ao seu sistema e a comprar os seus jogos temos que tê-los em conta," reconhece Lombardi que finaliza o seu discurso dizendo," Agora eles já estão na competição, pelo que vamos estudar a possibilidade de o jogo vir para a PS3."

Basicamente, é o que já foi dito aqui. Agora que cheira a dinheiro, já faz sentido fazer uma versão PS3...como se antes não fizesse...

Ainda não percebi. Eles vão ganhar dinheiro, vocês vão ter acesso ao jogo, onde é que está o problema? A Valve sempre disse que a ps3 era uma perda de tempo e recursos, e para eles continua a não fazer sentido uma versão ps3 tanto que nem vão ser eles a faze-la.
