PS3 retrocompatibilidade

A PS3 deverá apresentar maiores dificuldades de compatibilidade na Europa do que tem acontecido nos Estados Unidos e no Japão. Segundo comunicado divulgado pela imprensa, um porta-voz da Sony afirmou que "a retro-compatibilidade europeia não será tão boa como nos modelos norte-americanos e japoneses".
Apesar de alguns estudos de mercado provarem que poucos jogadores utilizam os seus jogos antigos em consolas novas, a nível de relações públicas a possibilidade de jogar títulos PS numa PS2, ou PS2 numa PS3 tem um grande valor psicológico para o consumidor.
"A PS3 é, em primeiro lugar, um sistema que atinge a sua excelência em jogos concebidos especificamente para explorar todo o poder e potencial da PS3", previne o presidente da Sony Europe, David Reeves, que defende assim esta opção da Sony.
Aliás, Reeves vai mais longe, ao acrescentar que ao invés de se concentrar em retro-compatibilidade com a PS2, a Sony vai focalizar os seus recursos no desenvolvimento de novos jogos e de novas características de entretenimento que tirem vantagem da tecnologia da PS3.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe today announced that the PlayStation 3 to be launched in Europe, Middle East, Africa and Australasia on 23rd of March 2007 would utilize a new hardware specification.

The European PS3 will feature the Cell Broadband Engine, 60 GB hard disc drive, Blu-ray Disc player, built-in Wi-Fi connectivity, SIXAXIS wireless controller. It also embodies a new combination of hardware and software emulation which will enable the PS3 to be compatible with a broad range of original PlayStation titles and a limited range of PlayStation 2 titles.

“PS3 is first and foremost a system that excels in playing games specifically designed to exploit the power and potential of the PS3 system,” said David Reeves, President of SCEE. “Games designed for PS3 offer incredible graphics quality, stunning gameplay and massively improved audio and video fidelity that is simply not achievable with PS and PS2 games. Rather than concentrate on PS2 backwards compatibility, in the future, company resources will be increasingly focused on developing new games and entertainment features exclusively for PS3, truly taking advantage of this exciting technology.”

Some additional PS2 titles will become compatible on the PS3 system through regular downloadable firmware updates. Sony promised that we’d have 100% capability for PS2 and PSOne games so this will likely upset some people.

Sempre se disse que o EE+GS e tal eram soluções de recurso.. dado que por software a Sonmy não conseguia emular aquilo..

Podem já ter feitos avanços e retirar o hardware ps3 de lá de dentro.. Sempre diminui os custos de produzir mais dois chips + a memória..

só que vão ter de desenvolver novo pcb..(novamente..) maas provavelmente alguem a vai abrir e depois podemos comparar os pcb's...mais um mesito..

Parece que cá vamos levar com a PS3 "capada".
"a limited range of Playstation2 titles" -> Isto preocupa-me!
Se ao menos os jogos da PS2 levassem um upscale na resolução ....
