[PSP] LocoRoco 2

LocoRoco 2 details now out: singing Mojas, new enemies, and more

We know you're all hyped up with the news of LocoRoco 2 hitting PSP soon, so here are some tidbits that would make you salivate for more of the LocoRoco sequel. While it is already a known fact that the game will be out sometime this year (or possibly this fiscal year, which may possibly stretch out into next calendar year), we haven't heard about actual game details.

Here are some of the game's details courtesy of a recent Famitsu interview with director Tsutomu Kouno... and trust us, the game sounds good already. One of the game elements that will be treated to a revamp are the Moja, those floating blobs of rastafarian. According to Kouno, the Moja will be coming up with their own songs - and hearing these Moja songs will sap the energy out of LocoRocos who hear them.

There will be other villains these time around. Let Kouno-san tell you about these new enemies:

You'll also run into other enemies as the game goes on -- not friends of the Moja, but there's a boss that has transformed these creatures and has them under his control, and he uses them to attack the LocoRoco.

Kouno also mentioned that LocoRocos will now be able to learn new abilities as they go on, such as being able to dive underwater, being able to bite and hold on to more items, and even pull things with their teeth. However, this isn't to say that LocoRoco 2 will stray from its purpose of being a light, easy to pick-up-and-play game. "We're being careful to keep it from getting too complex," Kouno said, while adding that there will be enough new features that will appease those who played the first game.

Leipzig: LocoRoco 2 footage and the lonely rolling star cameo

Today we got some new footage for LocoRoco 2 straight from this year's Leipzig Games Convention. While some of the clips show what we've seen from previous screenshots, there's still quite a lot of blobby ground to be covered in this trailer.

One thing I'd like to point out would be that little wink at those who've played Katamari. Check out the 0:35 mark of the video and you'll see a bunch of Locorocos riding a Katamari-shaped boulder down an incline. (cue theme: "You're lonely roooolling staaaar...") Oh, if only.

Moving on. A barrage of clips also show what looks like the other mini-game aspects of LocoRoco 2, including what looks like a shmup stage, a whack-a-mole game, and say, what's that at the end of the clip? LocoRoco in 3D?

LocoRoco 2 out by December, but where?

We've seen new footage of LocoRoco 2 at the Leipzig just a little over a month back. But while we're happy to see the joyful blobs rolling about the greens, we can't help but wonder when are they really coming?

It looks like we don't have to wonder to much now, as we've picked up on news that the sequel to the loved Loco Roco for the PSP will be shipping out sometime this December. Wow, all this silence, and it's been sneaking up from right under us! Oh wait. That's for Korea. Pfft. Korea's been getting a lot of cool stuff as of late, don't you think? Say, like that DJ Max Portable PSP-3000 bundle.

Anyhow, we're of course more interested in the North American release date. And unfortunately for us, we'll have to wait a bit longer. Reports say it's "likely to be drawn out to 2009". Likely. We'' just keep you posted on more updates on this as they blob along. We're sure there'll be plenty to go around anyway once TGS hits.

TGS 2008: LocoRoco 2 new features, gameplay demo vids

Patapon 2 isn't the only game gracing Sony's pre-TGS session. Enter LocoRoco creator Tsutomu Kouno to walk us through some of the new features in their upcoming blob-rolling sequel.

We've heard of LocoRoco 2's many new features before - from scans to screens, we've seen the locorocos flying through the air with their new bite-grip ability, seen them swimming around underwater, and even saw the mojas singing. (Disturbing, I know...)

Below are four videos showing some of the cool stuff that Kuono demoed. For one, there's the Mui Mui House where you can go all Sims-crazy. All the Mui Mui you rescue in the game end up here, and you can build some furniture or give them items to interact with.

The other gameplay vids show the afro hair creature and how you can obtain/borrow/steal his almighty hair and use it as some type of shell armor which will help your locoroco break certain obstacles. Underwater gameplay is also included. Who cares about surface tension and all that physics crap? Blobby goos can apparently swim, and that's that.
