Press Release

The MotorStorm® festival is unleashed in Alaska

o Brutal off-road racing, MotorStorm® Arctic Edge, arrives on
PSP™ (PlayStation®Portable) and PlayStation®2

o Multi-route tracks, unpredictable terrain, hostile AI and sub-zero conditions: never race the same lap twice!

London, 24th February 2009: The MotorStorm® festival has ripped-up the Monument Valley desert, it’s obliterated everything that stood in its path on The Island, and now it’s set for a whole new challenge. Sony Computer Entertainment Europe is delighted to announce that MotorStorm® Arctic Edge is set to arrive in Autumn 2009 for PAL territories and will be available on PSP™ (PlayStation®Portable) and also on PlayStation®2.

Developed by award-winning Bigbig Studios, the team behind the best-selling Pursuit Force™ series, MotorStorm Arctic Edge sees the music, the festival and the brutal off-road racing arrive in the breathtaking yet lethal and unpredictable setting of Alaska. With temperatures plummeting, sudden avalanches, broken ice bridges, and three different racing altitudes, this is possibly the most inhospitable environment the MotorStormers have ever had to deal with.

With grip at a premium, and in addition to the six existing classes from the original MotorStorm, two new vehicles have been introduced to combat the ice, the cold and the snow - the Snowcat and the Snow Machine. One has the power and size to blast through packed snow, whilst the other has the grip and pace to combat most of what the sub-zero conditions can throw at it.

MotorStorm Arctic Edge is great for single player action, online multiplayer or playing with friends; two to eight players can compete against each other wirelessly via Ad Hoc Mode on PSP. Alternatively, you can also compete via online multiplayer using Infrastructure Mode on PSP to make it to the summit of the online global leaderboards.

A further new introduction to the MotorStorm festival is personalisation of your vehicle class. Each vehicle in the game has a selection of different parts - for example wheels, exhausts, spoilers - liveries and stickers to choose from. Players can also create their own liveries from a set of base patterns and decals. There are so many combinations that each player could own a unique vehicle!

MotorStorm Arctic Edge comes exclusively to PSP and PlayStation 2 hot on the heels of the multi million selling titles MotorStorm and MotorStorm Pacific Rift.

The end of 2009 is going to be as cold and challenging as it gets. So lose your t-shirt and your shorts, keep hold of sunglasses and grab your thermals – it’s time to take a trip to the top of the world to see if you can conquer the most unwelcoming terrain the planet has to offer.

É verdade. O trailer não significa que o jogo vá ser bom. A qualidade do trailer normalmente é superior.

Motorstorm: Arctic Edge to squeeze more out of PSP hardware and push it to its limit

Bringing the PS3's MotorStorm into a bite-sized version on the PSP may be quite a herculean task, but game creator Richard Ogden isn't one to be easily fazed. In fact, he's pretty optimistic that MotorStorm: Arctic Edge will definitely push the PSP's hardware to its limit. From what it sounds like, the team is aiming to get the full PS3 MotorStorm experience on the PSP!

Speaking to NowGamer, Ogden explains:

MotorStorm: Arctic Edge really does push the machine. We’ve got more physics and damage and destruction going on than most other games on the system. As to whether there’s more that can be squeezed out; most definitely. We’ve been working with the hardware now for a good few years and we’re still finding ways that we can squeeze more out of it.

As long as you take a sensible view on what you’re trying to achieve then there aren’t really any major constraints when translating a PS3 game to PSP. The main area to deal with is the graphics and visuals – we have to use lower resolution textures and less polygons in our models, but in such a way that it’s still going to look great on the small screen. Really, nothing else needs to be compromised that much, at least not in the player’s perception of the final product.

And because we haven't found that much media for the game yet, let's bring up that trailer once more from last month. Of course, this looks to be a CGI clip. I wonder what actual gameplay looks like. If BigBig Studios does deliver on Ogden's promise, then that'd be way too cool for the PSP. (No pun intended)

Deve sair no fim do ano.

MotorStorm Arctic Edge - on platform power, icy physics, and new vehicles

MotorStorm
moves from the mountainous tropical paradise of Pacific Rift to the snowy cliffs of MotorStorm: Arctic Edge. PocketGamer sat down with Richard Ogden of BigBig Games and talked about how the steps they took to bring a PS3 franchise to the PlayStation's less-powerful brothers - the PSP and PS2.

As far as development was concerned, Ogden said that they did try to keep the feel as intact as they could. Naturally, the power disparity between the platforms played a major factor. "From the beginning of development, it's been our ambition to bring MotorStorm across to the PSP completely intact," he said. "We've had to compromise a little, but this is done under the bonnet and players shouldn't really perceive the difference."

For Arctic Edge, Ogden revealed that there will definitely slippery ice to drive on, but they've provided players a few ways around it, such as studded or spikey tires. "...you find that they actually have a lot of grip," he said. "So, these surfaces won't feel too different, at least for some of the vehicles."

It wouldn't be MotorStorm if you couldn't crash into the wall and get yourself screwed up bad. Luckily, they didn't forget to build on that. Plus we'll have two new vehicles to go and throw off a cliff - the Snowcat and Snow Machine. "The Snow Machine is one of the lighter vehicles but has a track and skis instead of wheels. It'll be pretty effective on the snow. The Snow Cat is more a rival to the Big Rig and will perform well on any surface."

So far, Ogden can't talk about DLC nor give a more specific release date than the autumn release margin. But since 30 people have been working on this game for 15 months, that shouldn't be much of a problem.
