GTA Pong for 2.01+ Firmware - Multiplayer!

Percival has updated his version of GTA Pong to support 2 players on the same PSP! I could be wrong, but I believe that makes this the first multiplayer homebrew game for those of you with 2.01, 2.50, or 2.60 firmware! Here are the other changes in this groundbreaking program:

-2 player support
-Added exit menu
-Faster ball movement
-The ball now actually looks like a ball, not a square
-The ball didn't actualy hit the player's paddle, now it does
-1 second delay after scoring

Instructions:
To install, Place the proper savegame folder (ULUS10041S5 for US, ULES00151S5 for UK, or ULES00182S5 for DE) on your Memory Stick. Boot up GTA and load this savegame file.

To play multiplayer with a friend, hold the PSP vertically so that one person has control of one side of PSP, and your friend the other.

Portable MasterMind for PSP

I despise this game. Don't get me wrong, it's great and fun at first - but then it drives you crazy. Pull your hair out crazy. If you're not familiar with MasterMind, the goal is to guess what color circles solve the puzzle in a certain order. But you only get a few chances to get it right, so there's plenty of frustration when you were just zeroing in on the right placement. Grrrrrr! Thanks alot, kennethdm, for creating a program that can question my intelligence and sanity wherever I take my PSP. If you like mental puzzles, this one will definitely keep you occupied - just don't say I didn't warn you!

This is my first homebrew attempt, it's a simple game, but not so easy to win.
The goal is simple, you have to find out what the secret code is.

Using left and right on your analog pad, you select the circle.
Using up and down you change the cirle's color.
If you are satisfied with the colors of the row, press cross,
now the little circles will show how good your guess was:

-the number of green circles is the number of correct colors at the correct place
-the number of blue circles is the number of correct colors at the incorrect place

This game is limited to 6 attempts, it is based on mini mastermind which is a mini version of the original mastermind.

If feedback is positive, I plan on expanding the game with the following:
-more (and harder) game modes
-high score list
-two player mode (one player inputs the code, the other one has to crack it)

PSIX Feature List & PDR Project Revealed!

Last week we reported on the official launch of the PSIX Website, the home of Fluff/Naoneo's much talked about PSIX shell that has been in the works for almost half a year. Now that it's imminent release is scheduled for a week from today, the feature list has been revealed and we get our first glimpse of what this program intends to do, as well as a sneak peak into what PSIX is looking like these days:

Features to be included for launch day :

- Eboot/UMD Launching with Psix callback
- Fully featured audio player
- Audio player playlist with shuffle, repeat, loop etc.
- Image viewer
- CPU Speed adjustment
- Customizable eboot icons
- File manager
- Two professional skins, Default and Termina
- Module management system
- Customizable backgrounds

Features for future releases :

- Network functionality, updating, downloading and sharing
- Video playback (may make it for release)
- Advanced boot configuration (2.00 eboot support)
- RSS reader

Modules :

- Ski-Free
- Text reader/editor
- Notebook
- PBP (Psix Basic Painter)
- Psix Calendar/Scheduler

This feature list is based on estimations, some features may make it for final release, some may not, we will do our best to get as much in and stable as possible for launchday, if we feel more should be done for the Pro version release, we will release Psix Lite on launch day, and Pro at a later date.

Please keep in mind that Psix Pro users are entitled to free lifetime updates, which cover all subsequent changes and updates to the psix application.

Additionally, Fluff has announced the PSIX PDR (PSP Developer Resource) in an attempt to create a source for development support!

Through the process of psix's conception, realisation and progression, it became clear to me that there was little in the way of development support, due to the closed doors on psp development as far as sony were concerned.

The site ps2dev.org is now known the world over for it's assistance to developers in that of the development of the PSP SDK and various other tools, libraries and resources. It is with this in mind that i start the PDR project, basically with my share of psix sales (35%), all of it will go back into the psp community, in the form of books, software and when needed, hardware.

How much i end up with, to put back into the psp community is anyones guess, however i will do my best to provide resources to as many developers as possible.

Applications for resources will start to be accepted via this page starting from Feb 6th, you may however contact me right now, if you have any ideas or assistance for this project, be it book recommendations or advice.

The Godfather delayed for PSP

EA games has announced the delay of The Godfather for both the PSP and Xbox 360.

"While we don't know what the reason for the delays are, one could surmise it has to do with developing for radically different systems. The Xbox, PS2, and PC versions are still slated for their March 2006 release. While no release dates have been set for the PSP and Xbox 360 versions, EA representatives are calling for a late summer release."

primeiro emulador na psp versao 2.01

Fanjita succeeds in bringing SNES Emulation to 2.01+ PSP Firmware

Fanjita has let us in on a bit of news that is sure to make many 2.01+ users deliriously happy. He and Ditlew have managed to get uo_Snes9x, a Super Nintendo Emulator by Y, running on 2.01+ firmware. This preview and the release of the Multi Save Game Loader, looks to be the start of what the Eboot Loader meant for 2.0 firmware. Console emulation is one of the most commonly sought after features of PSP homebrew. In a couple of days it looks like it will be a pleasant reality.

We finally made a more solid breakthrough with the EBOOT loader for GTA tonight. Not only does the menu now work properly, but I've also managed to run the uo_SNES9x emulator, and play the Pilotwings ROM (the only one I have), on both v2.0 and v2.5.

At the moment everything is hanging together with a pretty nasty hack. Ideally I'd like to get that fixed up before release, but it's more likely that we'll decide to release things as they currently are, and iron out that issue later.

Please note that lots of basic homebrew is still not working, but I thought that getting SNES emulation running was a big enough milestone to celebrate! Also, if we do decide to release, it will take a few days to knock the code into a releasable format.

Amazing work once again Fanjita and Ditlew. Congratulations on your latest accomplishment.

Homebrew games and Emulation on PSP 2.50!

Fanjita Releases 2.0 eLoader for v2.00, v2.01 and v2.50 PSP's

PSP Updates forum moderator and hacker guru Fanjita has completed his first release of a new loader for 2.01+ PSP's called eLoader. While 2.60 is not currently supported, this is a major accomplishment in unleashing homebrew on all systems. This amazing feat shows how frightfully resourceful developers can be when put against certain system restraints. This leap has indisputably opened the door to homebrew for PSP gamers who play on newer firmware.

Alright, starting off earlier this week, we told you that Fanjita and Ditlew had achieved working SNES emulation on a 2.50 version PSP. Stating that "if we do decide to release, it will take a few days to knock the code into a releasable format." This great turn in events had many gamers rising their PSPs in excitement.

Working emulation and an Eboot Loader on 2.50 had been a hope of many gamers for a long while, with many potholes in the road to victory, and now it seemed that homebrew on 2.01+ PSP's was a not to distant reality. From Super Nintendo emulators to the amazing games we see developed in our forums, homebrew for 2.01+ gamers was about to be a realization. Well today we are here to tell you of something great that has been released that is sure to have the faces of version 2.01 and 2.50 PSP's gamers glowing with excitement.

Loading homebrew games can now be done through the same GTA exploit that you have already been using. To install and configure the new eLoader, which loads homebrew games and applications on newer version PSP's, read on.

To install:

* Use WinRAR to unpack the contents of this package into the root (topmost) folder on your memory stick. Note that if you have an existing GTA savegame that uses slot 5, then this will be overwritten by the eLoader savegame.
* You can see which slots you are using by the folder names - ULES00182SX, ULES00151SX or ULUS10041SX : X is the slot number.
* To make sure that the eLoader is not auto-started by GTA, you can copy another GTA savegame folder off your memory stick, and then back onto the memory stick now.
* Now you can copy your homebrew files into subfolders in the /psp/game/ folder.

To use:

* Start up GTA as normal. When it has loaded, select "Load Game", select the eLoader savegame and confirm the load as normal. After a short delay, the eLoader menu should appear. Select the homebrew to run using the D-Pad, and the X button. You can select a CPU speed with the L + R shoulder buttons, or press START to restart your PSP.
* To return to the menu, you can usually hold the L+R shoulder buttons, then hold START for a few seconds. This doesn't work for every application.

The HOME button doesn't work, this is a known problem.
For now, the (short) list that has been tested is:

* uo_Snes9x v0.02y32 Dual Tetris
* Lunar Lander
* Ghost in the Matrix
* Nem's Hello World

There are sure to be others homebrew games and applications that work. If you find some, then please post them in the working homebrew discussion thread in the official forums. Fanjita has also been generous enough to offer an updated list of applications and games working with the new eLoader.

HUGE Thanks to my main man Fanjita and Ditlew for bringing homebrew to so many PSP owners who have been previously unable to play. My hat's off to ye! That's it for now folks, PSP Updates over'n'out, check back for more developments in the coming days!

Agora vamos lá ver se n metem umd loaders nesta treta! Assim concordo totalmente com o homebrew

Konami Revs Up Pocket Racers for the PSP

Konami of Europe has announced it is to release an all-new racing game entitled Pocket Racers for the PSP in spring.

Overseen by Konami of Europe Product Development in the UK, Pocket Racers features miniaturised cars whizzing around a series of everyday environments. The player is cast as a spoilt teenager at a party, who is transformed into a toy car by of a vengeful demon. What follows is a frenetic race for survival as the 'Nemesis' demon sets a series of increasingly hard challenges within the fully interactive – and destroyable! – play areas.

The cars in Pocket Racers represent the soul of the stricken player, and can be augmented through the collection of 'Soul Shards' which litter the play area. Collecting these allows the user to inflict massive damage on rival cars or the debris that clutters the race area, while additional weapons such as nitro boosts, missiles and ice can be used to sneak past opposing racers. These extra weapons are left around the courses, and must be gathered before your opponents get them.

The courses range from a messy bedroom, a conveyor belt-laden factory and a kitchen, and feature sneaky short cuts and hidden extras for the player to find. Pocket Racers also has a number of vehicle styles that are ideally suited to the varying locations. Sports cars, trucks, 4x4s and Coupes vie for attention, while other hidden vehicles can also be unlocked.

Pocket Racers is an extremely competitive racing game, and while it enjoys a taxing solo mode, can also accommodate up toPocketRacers012606-5 four players simultaneously using the wireless capabilities of the PSP hardware. A 'Tagging' game where players attempt to colour objects forms the basis of one multi-player mode, while a madcap 'Soccer' mode also shows off the speed and sensitivity of the game's controls.

Pocket Racers will be released for PSP in spring, 2006.

Konami Details The Silent Hill Experience for PSP

Konami of Europe has announced an innovative new PSP title that celebrates the heritage of the publisher's Silent Hill series and also offers an insight into the horrors that lurk in the forthcoming Silent Hill movie. Entitled The Silent Hill Experience (working title), a release date will be confirmed shortly.

Designed to offer a comprehensive guide to all things Silent Hill, The Silent Hill Experience combines a number of media formats to give a compelling overview of the horror series. Using an intuitive 3D interface, users can view all-new Silent Hill digital interactive comics, listen to music from the four games in the series, and watch exclusive video content. The Silent Hill Experience also features an interview with Christophe Gans, the Director of the highly aniticipated Silent Hill movie, starring Radha Mitchell and Sean Bean.

The new interactive comic book section contains a new story penned by longtime Silent Hill author, Scott Ciencin and illustrated by Steve Perkins and Alex Shibao. Using elements from the new movie and delving into the shady origins of Silent Hill, the comic has been designed specifically with the PSP in mind. As such, readers will be treated to animated panels and interactive transitions, while the UMD will also contain the acclaimed 'Dying Inside' comic book series, again adapted for the format.

Fans of the series' haunting music will also enjoy a selection of songs from the series. 20 tracks from the four titles have been specially selected for The Silent Hill Experience by Music Director and Composer, Akira Yamaoka, offering a broad cross-section of his haunting works. The UMD will also include an interview with Yamaoka, wherein he explains his choice of tracks for the package.

The Silent Hill Experience also goes behind the scenes of the Silent Hill movie, and speaks with Director Christophe Gans. Gans details how he adapted the story for the big screen, while there is also a featurette on the movie's production and a trailer. The package is then rounded off with the intro movies of all four games in a tribute to the eerie central setting.

"Konami has created an entirely new genre for the PSP system, combining a variety of media onto one package and showcasing the renowned Silent Hill franchise in a way that has never been done before," offered Hans-Joachim Amann, Head of European Product Management of Konami of Europe. "Fans of the Silent Hill series and horror fans alike will appreciate all the exclusive content as well as get a unique behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming Silent Hill movie."

The Silent Hill Experience will be released for the PSP (PlayStation Portable). No release date has been confirmed as of yet.

Konami Goes Naval With Steel Horizons for the PSP

Konami of Europe has announced it is to publish Steel Horizons (working title), a turn-based and real-time strategy title, for the PSP and Nintendo DS systems.

Steel Horizons offers players complete control of Naval fleets within a series of missions within a fictional scenario featuring well-known World War II battles. The game is inspired by popular pulp fiction set during World War II, and delves into the key events and characters behind historic battles. Its scenario tells of a shady third party pulling the strings to orchestrate the war, using futuristic technology to advance the carnage for their own ends.

Thus, the player is cast as the American Captain of one of three ultra-secret Navy vessels, and while initially surviving battles, must also expose and ultimately destroy the meddling organisation and save the world. Thus, the ships at the player's disposal include battleships, aircraft carriers, destroyers and submarines, and the individual attributes of each must be used to take out enemy fleets and the organisation's more advanced vessels.

In addition to the involving solo mode, players can also compete against a rival player via the wireless multi-player modes the hardware allows.

"Strategy games are a perfect fit for portable gaming on the PSP system and Nintendo DS," said Hans-Joachim Amann, Head of European Product Management of Konami of Europe. "With Steel Horizons' intuitive interface, intense 3D graphics, dynamic camera angles, impressive special effects and a mix of real-time and turn-based strategy elements, gamers will enjoy 20 compelling missions and countless hours of strategic action on the high seas."

Quake - Multiplayer Ad-hoc Released!

I know that this will get many of you out of your seats and ready to frag your friends! Chris Swindle has taken Peter McKay’s port of Quake and added Ad-hoc support for multiplayer capabilities between two or more PSP’s! The bugs are still being worked out and the sound was temporarily removed, but this is indeed a big step forward for multiplayer PSP homebrew! Just set one PSP as the ad-hoc host and the other PSP’s should detect it. Any feedback you can give will certainly help Chris fine-tune the program.

PSP iR Commander v0.6 Released

Yes, another remote controller program!

AhMan has released his iR Commander, current version 0.6. iR Commander is a Universal Remote software for PSP and it's based on the standard Pronto Codes format. Details:

Usage Note:

1) unzip the pspircom06.zip and place the files "IRCOM" & "IRCOM%" to your PSP under /PSP/GAME/.

2) You can define a remote control by adding a Remote Control Description file (rdf). This is a plain text file. Pls refer to the sample "Panasonic TV.rdf" for syntax description. You can simply use Windows Notepad to create a rdf, make sure you disable Word Wrap via Format->Word Wrap menu. This will allow you to see one code entry per line under Notepad.

3) If you make any typos in rdf file. The program will abort telling what & where you've made the typo after you have chosen that remote in the application.

4) There is an iR indicator on the top right corner on the remote control screen. It'll flash in RED if the PSP is tranmitting IR signal.

5) Refer to the "Panasonic TV.rdf" sample for defining Macros.

Pronto Codes:

You can obtain Pronto hex codes from here and here

First link contains direct Pronto Hex Codes (over 2000 devices). Second link above points to Component Configuration Files (over 6000s) which contains many pronto codes for different devices, but you need to use the Pronto Editor (downlaod Pronto Edit 4.0.5 from the same site) to open it.

Duke Nukem 3D Port for PSP by StereoMike

StereoMike, a member of our forum has released a port of Duke Nukem 3D for PSP. This is a great port of a classic 3D Shooter by 3D Realms Entertainment. A fair warning for this game, some settings may display mature rated "virtual females" in sexual scenarios and crude language. If you can see past that is is quite a great game, with well made levels and interesting environments. You must obtain the GRP file from either the retail version (tested) or the shareware version.

Analog: Movement
Pad: Move in menus

Pad-Up & Pad-Down: Select Weapon
Pad-Left & Pad-Right: Select Item

Cross: Use
Circle: Fire
Triangle: Jump
Square: Crouch
Left trigger: Strafe left
Right trigger: Strafe right
Select: Menu escape
Start: Menu select & Use item

BUGS
=====
- The pitch of Duke's voice is a bit too high making him sound a bit "strange"
- No loading(saving works...)
- No music
- Not completely stable, may crash when starting a game and exiting (but i have played a couple of levels in a row, so it should be stable ingame)
- The key-bindings are a bit tricky to change since you can't delete the old ones.
- The "Press any key to goto next level" only reacts to pressing "Start"

Untold Legends Sequel Goes Gold

Untold Legends: The Warrior's Code will also see the return of a cooperative mode, and gamers with more bloodlust can opt for the player-versus-player mode. Adventurers will traverse 45 areas across five new chapters and will battle more than 40 unique monsters and contend with 12 boss battles. PS3 Features Revealed, PSP Well Cared

Jak_The_Man, An active member from US PlayStation forums, has posted a short article after reading the latest PlayStation Magazine. The information contained is very interesting...

  • [*]PS3 will have online service that goes beyond Xbox live

[*]PS3 will be a DVR (Digital Video Recorder)

[*]It will be able to connect with the PSP

[*]There are a lot of games being worked on for it right now in the US (a lot more then what people know about)

[*]The final PS3 dev kit is a lot faster than they thought (according to the developer)

[*]The PS3 will have an iTunes type service to let you download Hi-Def movies, music, etc

[*]The PS3 will take the media center functionality the 360 has even further

[*]PS3 will serve as a location free player for the PSP, means you can watch the DVD’s that you have in your PSP on your PSP (from anywhere in the world), or any other video files you have on your ps3, though this is still only being planned.

[*]PSP will be able to send its files straight to the PSP from anywhere in the world, and it can also control its DVR functionalities
[*]Firmware updates will add more functionality, much like with the PSP

[*]The Blu-ray Player functionality doesn't cost as much as a stand alone player because the Cell and RSX can take care of a lot of the stuff the PS3 will need to do to be able to read the disks

[*]Fall release date for PS3, no release date for online service, but expected to launch with the system

All these new features makes a PSP worth buying… together with a PS3. ;-)

As you can see, there are quite some strange icons we’ve never seen before in the photo of the PSP, a glimpse of the next firmware? This scan, as noted in the bottom left hand corner, discusses the CES (Consumer Electronics Show), held the beginning of last month. Sony definitely plans to keep updating their precious PSP and will surely use it to their advantage with the release of the PlayStation 3, interacting with it any way they seem fit. We are definitely interested to see what the future holds for the powerful handheld, and only hope that Sony will not quash any ability to play homebrew on a product we payed a good amount of money to do with as we please.
