It may have taken forever and quite a few additional days for the PSP to finally launch in the UK but there are strong rumblings that the best portable gaming console on the market is getting an upgrade.
Whether it includes boosted performance specs at this stage is unclear, but what we are hearing is strong talk of an 8GB lump of integrated flash memory. Sony and Samsung are said to be squabbling over the details as we speak.
Should the two manage to agree some sort of Applesque price breaks, this would be one clever move by Sony. Keeping the specs the same would mean no need to release alternative versions of existing and future titles and it would also eliminate third party storage work-arounds such as the 4GH HDD from Datel and the extended flash reader available from Lik Sang. Furthermore it would give the already uber popular console a second sales wind.
Adding further fuel to the fire is also the fact that Sony continues to bundle the PSP with ever larger Memory Sticks: a strong sign that the console´s lack of large integrated memory is a conscious problem. As we say with all stories that aren´t officially confirmed however, treat this with a grain of salt until we hear otherwise.
Fingers crossed and optimistic smiles at the ready though...
