Total PSP hardware and software sales figures for Japan have been announced. The console itself has shifted over ten million units in the period from December 12, 2004 and August 24, 2008. Software sales-wise, Capcom's Monster Hunter juggernaut is leading the charge. Here's the totals for the top selling PSP games so far in Japan:
1. Monster Hunter 2nd G (Capcom) March 27, 2008 Release: 2,396,642 copies sold
2. Monster Hunter 2nd (Capcom) February 22, 2007 Release: 1,706,387 copies sold
3. Crisis Core - Final Fantasy VII (Square Enix) September 13, 2007: 790,705 copies sold
4. Monster Hunter Portable (Capcom) December 1, 2005: 668,964 copies sold
5. Phantasy Star Portable (SEGA) July 31, 2008: 545,242 copies sold
The PSP seems to have really taken off in the last two years here in Japan.
The Xbox 360 may still not have outsold the Wii, but it's definitely leaving the PlayStation 3 eating its dust in Japan. The latest numbers show that Xbox 360 sales in the region has exceeded the PS3's by several thousand for the second week running.
While the Xbox 360 continues to outsell the PS3 though, its sales experienced a very sharp drop from the previous week. At that time it sold around 28,000, while the latest numbers show it only sold close to 14,000. The drop is believed to be caused by retail inventory problems, but it's not clear how much of a factor that was.
Perhaps - it the inventory problems weren't the overall cause - the huge downward spike might indicate that the sudden burst in sales might just as suddenly wink out. Remember, Sony wasn't worried at all about the Xbox 360 price cut, saying before that they have no doubt that the Xbox 360 will have a sales increase, but that it's not sustainable in the long-term. Were they right? At any rate, we'll know in the following weeks.
In the handheld scene, it's the calm before the storm as sales decline in anticipation for the PSP-3000. Sales experienced a drop of around 1,500 from the previous week. Here are the sales data for Japan for the week ending on September 21:
- DS Lite: 61,242
- Wii: 29,921
- PSP: 28,674
- Xbox 360: 13,777
- PS3: 8,156
- PS2: 7,720
Third time's the charm.
The latest numbers from Japan show that the Xbox 360 has once again outsold the PlayStation 3 for the third week running. Crunching some numbers reveal that the Xbox 360 outsold the PlayStation 3 for the entire month of September. It's a little too early for Christmas miracles, so I'd say this is... a Halloween miracle?
September saw 54,793 units sold for the Xbox 360, but only 31,798 PlayStation 3s were liberated from shelves for the month. If that's what a price cut did for the Xbox 360 in Japan, I am highly curious to see what it did for other regions, particularly in North America. We'll have to wait on the figures form the NPD Group to find out.
On the handheld side of things, both the PSP and DS have declined in sales, and no wonder. People are waiting for both the PSP-3000, and the new camera-fied Nintendo DSi. I'm surprised they still manage to sell any. Here are the numbers from Japan for the week ending on September 28:
- DS Lite: 57,847
- Wii: 26,314
- PSP: 25,671
- Xbox 360: 11,291
- PS2: 9,848
- PS3: 8,275
A Nintendo é neste momento líder a nível mundial.
Fonte: http://computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=198313Nintendo is racing ahead in the handheld department, the DS's installed base having jumped by 3.3 million units to 7.1 million since last September. PSP notched up just 700,000 sales during the same period, taking its installed base to 2.9 million.
