Redmi Note 11 Pro and Pro 5G unveiled with 120Hz OLED displays, 108MP cameras

Xiaomi unveiled the Redmi Note 11 series today and it is crowned by two Pro models – just don’t confuse them with the Redmi Note 11 Pro phones for China. The two global models are quite similar, they mainly differ in the choice of chipset, which decides whether they offer 5G or 4G connectivity.

The Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G picks the Snapdragon 695, a 6nm sequel to the 690. It is paired with 6GB or 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB or 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage. Note that both phones have hybrid card trays, meaning you can put in a microSD card instead of a second SIM card.

The Redmi Note 11 Pro (4G) gets the Helio G96 chip instead. It is fabbed on an older 12nm node and its two Cortex-A76 CPU cores are a couple of generations behind the Snapdragon (with two A78-derived Kryos). Also, its Mali-G57 MC2 GPU is no match for the Adreno 619. At least both models are on par in terms of software - both will launch with MIUI 13 based on Android 11.

Chipsets (and connectivity) aside, the two phones share almost everything else. This includes the 6.67” AMOLED display with 1080p+ resolution (20:9), 120Hz refresh rate and 360Hz touch sampling rate. The display supports the DCI-P3 wide color gamut and has a typical brightness of 700 nits (1,200 nits peak). It is guarded by Gorilla Glass 5 while the rest of the phone is rated IP53 for dust and splash resistance.

The main camera on the back uses the 108MP ISOCELL HM2 sensor, 1/1.52” in size with 0.7µm pixels and support for 9-in-1 binning (2.1µm). This sensor supports zooming up to 3x natively, which comes in handy as there is no dedicated lens. There is an 8MP ultrawide camera (118°) and a 2MP macro camera. The 4G phone also gets a 2MP depth sensor, but that's not much to brag about.

There is a 16MP selfie camera punch holed into the AMOLED display. As for the fingerprint reader, Xiaomi opted to mount it on the side. Other items of interest on the sides are a 3.5mm headphone jack and dual speakers.

Both models are powered by 5,000 mAh batteries, which support 67W fast charging. They can go from zero to over 50% in just 15 minutes. The charger is included in the box, as is a USB-C cable. Additional connectivity includes NFC, an IR blaster, Wi-Fi 5 (ac) and Bluetooth 5.1.

The Redmi Note 11 Pro and Note 11 Pro will become available in February. The Pro model will start at $300 for the 6/64 GB model and go up to $350 for the 8/128 GB option. The Pro 5G phone starts at $330 (6/64 GB) and goes up to $380 ($8/128 GB).

For a quick comparison with last year’s models, there was no Note 10 Pro 5G, but the Redmi Note 10 Pro has a Snapdragon 732G chipset, a similar 6.7” 120Hz AMOLED (though with only 450 nits of typical brightness), roughly the same camera setup and a 5,020mAh battery with 33W charging. The Note 10 5G was a proper downgrade in terms of display (6.5” 90Hz LCD), camera (48MP main, no ultra wide) and battery (5,000 mAh but only 18W charging).

This year the Redmi Note series won’t make you pick between a nice screen/camera and performance/connectivity. And if you’re worried about the pricing, check out the two non-Pro models.

While the Pro duo has big ambitions, the Redmi Note 11 and Note 11S will try to win your heart by being smaller, lighter and cheaper. Even so, they share some features with the Pros and with each other.

With a 6.43” AMOLED display, these two are a few millimeters shorter and narrower, over 20g lighter too. They still enjoy 1080p+ resolution (20:9) and a high refresh rate – only 90Hz, but it’s still an upgrade over the Note 10 and 10S from last year. The touch sampling rate is double that (180Hz) and Xiaomi managed to boost the typical brightness to 700 nits (up from 450 nits). The Gorilla Glass 3 protection and IP53 rating (splash resistance) are the same.

The camera is a much larger upgrade. The Redmi Note 11S gets the same 108MP ISOCELL HM2 as the Pros – a 1/1.53” sensor with 0.7 µm pixels and 9-in-1 binning (for 2.1 µm pixels). That's quite a jump up from the 64MP 1/1.97" sensor of the 10S.

The regular Note 11 gets a 50 MP sensor instead. Both pack a 118° ultrawide camera with 8MP sensor, a 2MP macro cam and a 2MP depth sensor.

The chipsets are sequels to the ones from last year – the S-model gets the Helio G96 (instead of G95), the vanilla has a Snapdragon 680 (instead of 678). The G96 is fabbed on an old 12nm process, but has relatively new Cortex-A76 cores (two of them). Well, “new” in relation to the Cortex-A73 based cores (four of them) in the Snapdragon. Instead of performance, the Snapdragon has its eyes set on efficiency – it’s fabbed on a modern 6nm process.

MIUI 13 based on Android 11 will come pre-installed. The Redmi Note 11 starts at 4/64 GB and tops out at 6/128 GB, the Note 11S starts at 6/64 GB and tops out at 8/128 GB. Unlike the Pros, however, these have dedicated spots for microSD cards on the dual-SIM tray.

Both phones have side-mounted fingerprint readers and can also use their front cameras for biometric unlock – 16MP for the S-phone and 13MP for the other one. These have IR blasters and (in some regions) NFC, plus dual speakers and 3.5mm headphone jacks.

The Note 11 and 11S are powered by 5,000 mAh batteries, the same capacity as last year’s models. However, Xiaomi managed to optimize the 33W fast charging, so now 100% is reached in 58 minutes (the Note 10 needed 74 minutes).

The Redmi Note 11 and Note 11S will become available later this month in a limited "early bird" deal, wide availability is coming next month. The Redmi Note 11 will start at $180 for the 4/64 GB model and will go up to $230 for the top 6/128 GB model. The Redmi Note 11S will start at $250 (6/64 GB) and go up to $300 (8/128 GB).

But those prices can be lower, if you catch the worm - the early bird prices will be available only on ***** and only on January 28 and 29. They drop the Note 11 prices by $20 for the 4/64 GB and 4/128 GB models and $30 for the top 6/128 GB model. As for the Note 11S, only the 6/64 GB version is getting a discount to the tune of $20.

Three-strong Redmi Note 11 series debuts, Pro+ brings 120W fast charging

Xiaomi introduced three new phones in China today - Redmi Note 11 Pro and Redmi Note 11 Pro+ and the more affordable vanilla Redmi Note 11. The two Pro devices are identical aside from one key difference - the Plus variant brings 120W fast charging, while the regular Pro has a bigger battery.

These two phones are the same on the outside. The front panel is a 6.67” AMOLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate and 360Hz touch sampling rate, and features a particularly small selfie camera punch-hole at just 2.96mm in diameter.

On the inside, we have a Dimensity 920 chipset and a choice between three memory versions - 6/128GB, 8/128GB and 8/256GB.

The most impressive feature of the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ is its 120W fast charging that tops the 4,500 mAh battery in about 15 minutes. To prove that, Xiaomi had a performer on stage hold his breath for 15 minutes and 5 seconds while a demo unit was charging.

Going for the non-Plus phone would decrease the charging rate to “just” 67W, which is still tremendously fast, and you'd be getting a larger 5,160mAh battery.

The huge camera island on the back has only three active snappers: a 108MP main with Samsung HM2 sensor, borrowed from the predecessor Redmi Note 10 Pro, an 8MP ultrawide cam with 120-degree FoV, and a 2MP telemacro camera. The front-facing camera has a 16MP sensor.

The phone has a 3.5mm audio jack and JBL-tuned stereo speakers. Two 0.65 cubic mm audio chambers on the two sides of the phone aim to enhance sound.

The two Redmi Note 11 Pro phones have a dual-SIM slot but no room for microSD. They run Android 11 with MIUI 12.5 on top.

The vanilla Note 11 looks similar to its Pro siblings but takes a few notable downgrades. The chipset is Dimensity 810, coupled with four memory options - 4/128GB, 6/128GB, 8/128GB, and 8/256GB.

At the front, we’re looking at a 6.6” LCD with Full HD+ resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. The back has the same huge island but sadly comes with only two cameras - 50MP main unit and 8MP ultrawide camera. At least the Redmi Note 11 retained the 16MP selfie shooter.

There is a downgrade in the battery department as well. The vanilla Note 11 has 33W fast charging for the 5,000mAh battery, which should charge from 0 to 100% in 62 minutes, according to Redmi. The fingerprint scanner made its way on the side, doubling as a power key.

Here, we also see a 3.5 mm audio jack, stereo speakers and an IR sensor, as well as Android 11 with MIUI 12.5 on top. And just like the Pro phones, the Redmi Note 11 does not have a micro SD slot.

The Redmi Note 11 is going to be available in Gradient, Black, and Mint Blue colors and start from CNY1,199 ($187). The first flash sale will take place on Monday, November 1.

Redmi Note 11 Pro will follow on November 5 in Black, Aurora Gradient, Violet, or Forest Green colors. Prices start from CNY1,699 ($265).

The Redmi Note 11 Pro+ will be available on the same day as its non-Plus sibling, but it starts from CNY1,999 ($310) and skips on the gradient paint job.

Instead the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ will have a Yibo Design option that is Green with fancy stripes and has a 3D effect of the Redmi logo, painted on the glass back. It costs CNY2,699 ($420) and will launch on November 11, the Chinese shopping holiday known as Singles’ Day.

Redmi Note 11 Pro tipped to feature 120W charging

An early rumor surrounding the Redmi Note 11 series is that the top-end Pro or Pro Max model could feature 120W fast charging. The info comes from noted tipster Digital Chat Station and is basically the first bit of specs we have for any of the Redmi Note 11 series so far. This would be quite a leap from the current Note 10 Pro and Pro Max which feature 33W charging and even the China-exclusive Redmi Note 10 Pro with its 67W speeds.

The only Xiaomi phones on the market that support 120W charging are the 11T Pro and Mix 4. The remaining specs of the Redmi Note note 11 Pro and its siblings are still to be detailed but we’re expecting more info to emerge soon.
