I folded Myself
HIS IceQ Radeon X1650XT TurboX Edition

HIS has came a long way with AMD-ATI graphics, a premier AIB partner producing many enthusiast level graphics. They are also well known for their overclocked graphic cards fitted with custom cooling solutions by Arctic Cooling. Being one of the pioneers of adopting AC cooling solutions, HIS has realized the potential of the overclocker 's market and have since introduced many graphic cards that comes pre-overclocked; the X1650XT card that we 'll be looking at today runs at 630/770mhz as opposed to the stock X1650XT speeds of 575/675Mhz.

Enough of an introduction, let us take a look at the specifications of the card as compared to its competitors in the market today.

A look at the card itself with its humongous Arctic Cooling Custom Cooling Solution. The X1650XT core runs slightly cooler than it's predecessor, the X1600 series as it's running on a 80nm core instead of a 90nm.

Benchmarks

Once again, we'll be using the aging rig methodology in this review like how we did previously in the Nvidia vs ATI mid range shootout we did a couple of months back. By doing so, we'll be able to give our budget gamers a more practical approach with the results we'll get as compared to using a high end configuration

A list of the common hardware we used throughout the review:

* Intel Pentium 4 3.73 Extreme Edition (The last single core EE, your hot prescott truly)
* Abit AW8D-Max
* Kingston PC4200 (DDR-II 533) 512MB x2
* Seagate Baracuda 7200.7 80GB
* Coolermaster Realpower 550w psu

Some of the benchmarks that we chose?in today's comparison:

Synthetic Benchmarks

1. Futuremark 3DMark 03, 05 & 06

Gaming Benchmarks

1. Quake 4
2. Serious Sam 2
3. Company of Heroes
4. Call of Duty 2
5. Battlefield 2142

Software

* Windows XP w/ SP2
* Nvidia Forceware 93.71
* ATI Catalyst 6.11

Generally, the HIS X1650XT Turbo edition does better than the Asus X1650XT that's clocked at stock as shown in the graphs. Generally, synthetic benchmarks are only taken with a pinch of salt as they do not really reflect on the card's performance in real world games. In the following page, we will be executing a series of benchmarks based on some of the most popular games available in the market today.

Generally, Quake 4 is still a game dominated by Nvidia, and here we can see that the HiS card outdoing the Asus but a margin of about 8FPS. Do keep in mind that the sus 7600GS TOP has a core clock that's even higher than a 7600GT at stock.

As we can see here, the HIS X1650XT managed to outdo the 7600GS top by a margin of 3fps.

Call of Duty is still barely playable with the HIS X1650XT at stock even though it's a good 6 frames faster than its Asus counterpart

Company of Heroes is yet another game which Nvidia dominates, and even the overclocked HIS card cannot beat the Asus 7600GS Top.

Conclusion

The HIS Radeon X1650XT 256MB IceQ TurboX edition outdid a stock X1650XT by quite a fair margin, and at the same time, offers a superior stock cooling solution as compared to similar offering by others. Did I forget to mention that the IceQ cooler is also lined with cool blue LEDs for the case modding enthusiast.

Alas, although it's value for money for its pricepoint at this point of time, the X1650XT is still significantly weaker compared to the Nvidia 7600 series in most of the popular DX9 games available in the market today. For the discerning ATI fan who swears by AMD-ATI graphics solutions, this might just be a good mid-end replacement for you.
