Rocket League is getting unlockable crates

Psyonix has confirmed that unlockable crates are coming to Rocket League in a future update. The studio said in a message posted on Reddit that it had intended to reveal the change next month nearer the Rocket League Championship Series finals, but decided to put the word out early after a Redditor dug crate and key assets out of the game's files.

“Those assets are, indeed, early pieces of an upcoming system we plan on implementing to fund our esports prize pools and events,” Psyonix VP Jeremy Dunham wrote. “We plan on officially announcing it next month at (or near) the RLCS Live Finals since it directly relates to that event and other events like it, but since this image came out before our official word, we wanted to clarify some things for you.”

Those things:

  • Crates will contain cosmetic content only. We have a strict "Don't Sell Advantage" policy for Rocket League, and we're sticking with that.
  • There will be no Steam Marketplace integration with crates. We are definitely aware of the problems related to third-party gambling in other games and we are not interested in taking that approach.
  • Players who don't want to interact with this system can hide it entirely with a single checkbox. Also of note, this won't affect or impact our current item-drop system in any way.

“We also want to reassure you guys that we are sticking with our approach to keep introducing free new Arenas, Modes, and Items, along with the occasional paid DLC just like we always have,” he wrote.

Bem... para mim isto é uma boa noticia, de tempos a tempos lá vou abrindo uma ou duas no CSGO por isso vejo-me a fazer o mesmo no RL!!

Coming Soon: Octagon Rocket Labs Arena and More

The Rocket Labs playlist[www.rocketleaguegame.com] adds another stadium to its lineup with the debut of "Octagon" this September!

Available for both Online and Offline Exhibition play, "Octagon" is VR-themed like other Rocket Labs Arenas, but the large, eight-sided walls are what set it apart.

The "Octagon" arena isn't the only addition headed to Rocket League, as two more variants of classic traditional fields,"Urban Central (Dawn)" and "DFH Stadium (Stormy)," are coming as well. As always, both variants will be included for Online and offline play in Exhibition and Private matches, and the Ranked Playlists as they should be. Check 'em out below!

Custom Team Names and Colors for Private Matches

When spinning up a Private Match with friends and teammates, you’ll soon be able to add custom Team Names as well. These names will appear on the scoreboard whenever a goal is scored, and all players in the match will be able to see them.

Along with custom Team Names, Private Matches will also support Team Color selection. That means that teams will be assigned any of the normal Primary and Secondary colors and that Stadium hues will change based on your selections. One thing to note, however, is that for gameplay reasons, you won’t be able to change a car’s primary color to white or black — just secondaries. They’ll still look pretty cool, though!

      • Mac and Linux Beta are now available!
      • Car Presets

          • You can now create up to ten Car Presets that save a specific car configuration for easy access. Presets can be named to make it easy to switch between your favorites in the main menu.
          • Presets can be quickly swapped between in the “Garage” submenu.
          • The Randomize Preset button generates a completely random car configuration for you to try out!
          • Player Trading
            • Trading between players is now available. To trade, form a party with a friend and select the player you wish to trade with on your party bar. The “Invite to Trade” option will appear.
            • You can trade Online (Uncommon and up) item drops, Crates and crate items. You can trade most Limited items (like Halloween or Alpha items) but not special rewards like the Season 2 Boosts.
            • You cannot trade Common items or Premium DLC items. They are bound to your personal account and cannot be given away.
            • Keys, or items obtained from keys (like crate items) have a “Trade Hold” that prevents them from being traded to other players for 7 days from the time of purchase.
          • The primary color palette has expanded to give players more options for their Blue and Orange cars, including Green colors for the Blue Team!
          Online
          • Introducing "Champions Crates"...
            • You can now find “Champions Crates” rarely after completing online matches. They contain exclusive decals, wheels, boost trails, and even "Import" car bodies. Crates can be unlocked with keys, which are for sale in the "Manage Inventory" and Crate Unlock menus
              • Note: A portion of the proceeds from all "Champions Crates" opened goes directly to Rocket League eSports prize pools.
            • Each crate has a unique “series” of items it may contain. In the “Manage Inventory” screen, while selecting a crate the tooltip displays the full set of items in that series and which ones you have collected.
              • Crate items can be used in the existing “Trade In” system that exchanges five items of one rarity for a random new item of higher rarity.
              • Crate items must be traded up with other items from their same series and you will receive a new item from the same series.
              • You can view your Crates and preview their possible contents from the “Manage Inventory” screen.
            • Crate drops do not count against your normal Uncommon/Rare/Very Rare online item drop limit. They are a completely separate system.
            • All of the "Import" cars included in crates have identical steering and hitbox stats to existing vehicles in the game.
          • Team Names and Colors are now available in Private Match
            • When creating a private match, you can now specify custom Team Names for both teams. These names will appear on the scoreboard and when goals are scored.
            • Private Matches now support Team Color selection. These colors override the colors selected by players. Similar to Season mode, the full color palette is available, and the stadium colors will change to reflect your choices.
          • Competitive Inactivity
            • Players who do not play a competitive match for 30 days or longer are now considered Inactive. Inactivity removes you from Competitive Leaderboards and reassigns you to the “Unranked” Skill Tier.
            • Inactive players’ skill rating is not lost or reset - they must play a few placement matches to be re-calibrated. The number of placement matches depends on how long they have been inactive.
          • The following Boost Trails have received a visual upgrade:
            • Bubbles
            • Confetti
            • Datastream
            • Flamethrower Purple

            • Thermal
          • “Retro Utopia” has been removed from the “Rocket Labs” playlist, but can still be played in Private Matches.
          UI/ UX
          • Party Chat is now available in the main menu and more!
            • Parties of players can now chat together from any screen using a new “Party Chat” widget that appears in the bottom right of your interface. Simply press R2 on PS4, RT on Xbox One, or click the icon on PC to open the chat window.
            • You can Party Chat on the Main Menu before matchmaking, from Training or other local modes, or even in a live match.
            • Messages from other party members will appear in your in-game chat log as well.
          • The “Manage Inventory” screen now supports searching and filtering of items.
          • While in the Replay Viewer, you can now open the Replay List and change which replay you’re watching from the mid-game menu.
          • In Competitive matches, the Skill Division / Promotion / Demotion display has been moved to the Scoreboard screen so it does not interfere with the Postgame Spotlight.

          BUG FIXES

          General
          • Disabling both “Depth of Field” and “Bloom” in the video options will no longer desaturate the entire game unintentionally.
          • Guam country flag now appears correctly.
          • Offensive name plates will once again appear censored to players on PlayStation 4 when appropriate.

COMPETITIVE

  • Season 3 has ended. Titles and items will be awarded for your highest rank achieved during the season

    • Season 3 Prospect Wheel

    • Season 3 Challenger Wheel

    • Season 3 Star Wheel

    • Season 3 Champion Wheel

    • Season 3 Grand Champion Title
  • Season 4 brings a new set of Skill Rankings to provide more clear divisions between skill levels

    • You are now classified into Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Champion, and Grand Champion ranks

    • The new Grand Champion rank will be harder to attain than in Season 3

    • There are now only four divisions per skill tier (e.g. Gold II, Division IV) due to each tier covering a smaller range of skills
  • Skill Reset

    • After placement matches, you will be assigned a skill rating influenced by your Season 3 ranking

    • This ranking will be lower than where you finished Season 3 and you will have to climb back to the highest rank you can reach

    • We are not doing a full reset like Season 3 due to the lengthy period of matchmaking disturbance it created. This “soft reset” means players start separated by skill to keep things balanced but can still climb back to top ranks
  • Matchmaking Abuse

    • In the interest of enforcing fair competition, a small number of accounts have been identified as abusing the matchmaking system, and will receive a hard skill reset. These accounts will not receive Competitive Season 3 item rewards
  • Placement Match Updates

  • When rejoining a Ranked Match, the default option is now “OK” instead of “Cancel”
