"Reliable sources have zeroed in further on the release date for Apple's revamped iMac since our last report, pointing to an announcement on August 7. Meanwhile, preliminary signs suggest Apple may be ready to release its next-generation iLife suite around the same time in an effort to further bolster the iMac's appeal ahead of the back-to-school buying season.

Multiple sources have said Apple's highly anticipated iMac revision is expected in the first week of August. The revamped iMac will represent the first substantial upgrade to the system since it initially adopted Intel processors in January 2006, and will sport an entirely new brushed aluminum enclosure.

Word of iLife's appearance in August is less certain. Sources have said since late 2006 that the next versions of iLife and iWork would not be released until Leopard hits shelves, with both suites set to take advantage of new technologies in Mac OS X 10.5.

Other sources have more recently said Apple is already making preparations for the release of the new iLife, something that ordinarily wouldn't happen so soon if iLife was tracking for an October release alongside Leopard.
