Samsung Galaxy A51 and Galaxy A71 announced: Infinity-O displays and L-shaped quad cameras

As expected, Samsung today announced the first members of its Galaxy A (2020) series - Galaxy A51 and Galaxy A71.

Samsung Galaxy A51

The Galaxy A51 is powered by the Exynos 9611 SoC that's paired with up to 8GB RAM. It runs Android 10-based One UI 2.0 out of the box and has up to 128GB of storage onboard. It also comes with a microSD card slot, which allows storage expansion by up to 512GB.

The Galaxy A51 is built around a 6.5" 20:9 Infinity-O Super AMOLED display of FullHD+ resolution that has a fingerprint reader underneath and a punch hole in the center for the 32MP selfie camera.

The smartphone flaunts a mirror back with a diamond-cut design which is home to an L-shaped quad camera setup comprising a 48MP main, 12MP ultrawide (123-degree FOV), 5MP depth, and 5MP macro units. These cameras come with features like Smart Switch, Live Focus, and Super Steady Video.

The Galaxy A51 packs a 4,000 mAh battery with 15W fast charging and has four color options - Prism Crush Black, Prism Crush White, Prism Crush Blue, and Prism Crush Pink.

The A51 is priced starting at VND7,990,000 ($350/€310) and can be pre-booked in Vietnam from December 16, with sales commencing from December 27. Those who pre-order the A51 will get free gifts worth up to VND1,580,000 ($70/€60), which include Samsung's C&T ITFIT A08C Wireless Bluetooth earphones and a 10,000 mAh power bank.

Samsung Galaxy A51 to feature L-shaped quad camera

Samsung’s revised Galaxy A lineup was a key growth driver for the company throughout 2019 and it looks like the same will apply to next year. A new leak gives us an early look at the back frame of the Galaxy A51 which reveals an L-shaped setup for the cameras. According to previous speculation, the back will house a quad camera setup. Some early rumors suggest a 48MP main shooter alongside a 12MP ultrawide lens, 12MP telephoto shooter and a 5MP depth sensor.

The same leak also shows that the Galaxy A51 will come with a 3.5mm headphone jack, dual SIM slot and a USB Type-C connector. Previously, the Galaxy A51’s key specs leaked in a Geekbench listing.

The phone bearing the SM-A515F model number packed the Exynos 9611 SoC paired with 4GB RAM and ran on Android 10. The screen should come in at 6.5-inches and will feature a waterdrop notch cutout for the 32MP selfie camera.

Samsung Galaxy A51 appears in first renders and passes Wi-Fi certification

Last week we came upon a early look at the upcoming Galaxy A51’s L-shaped quad cameras. The phone also popped up on Geekbench bearing the SM-A515F model number which revealed it would pack the Exynos 9611 SoC and 4GB RAM just like the Galaxy A50s.

Now, we get our first set of renders of the A51 which reveal the quad-cam setup on the back and a centered punch hole in the display similar to the Note10 series.

The upcoming Samsung midranger appears to have minimal bezels with a flat display measuring in at 6.5-inches with a punch hole for the 32MP selfie camera. The dimensions are listed at 158.4 x 73.7 x 7.9mm and the camera bump on the back adds another 0.6mm of thickness.

Speaking of the camera setup it sits in a rectangular cutout that houses the quad cameras and LED flash. Past rumors suggest the main sensor will come in at 48MP, paired with a 12MP ultrawide shooter, 12MP telephoto camera and a 5MP depth helper.

The Samsung Galaxy A51 will also be getting an ample 4,000 mAh battery.

Around the bottom of the phone, we see the loudspeaker, Type-C port and headphone jack.

In related news, the A51 also appeared in a certification entry on the Wi-Fi Alliance database. The listing matched the SM-A515F model number seen before and revealed that the phone will come with dual-band Wi-Fi support and Android 10 out the box.

Samsung Galaxy A51 press renders leak ahead of December 12 unveiling

Samsung is getting ready to unleash a slew of new A-series devices into the world, and one of the most anticipated is definitely the Galaxy A51. That's because its predecessor, the A50, was the king of the newly revamped A-line, in terms of sales.

We've already seen the A51 in CAD-based renders, and it's also been spotted at the FCC. Now it's time for a bunch of official-looking press renders, portraying it in all its glory.

The phone boasts a camera island shape that seems to be Samsung's trademark for its 2020 devices, with an L-shaped arrangement of the shooters themselves inside. The A51 will be Samsung's most affordable handset with a quad cam setup on the rear.

The primary one is 48 MP f/2.0, and you also get a 12 MP f/2.2 ultrawide, a 5 MP depth sensor, and a 5 MP f/2.4 dedicated macro camera. This is expected to be one of the biggest talking points in official materials, because of the very tight close-ups it enables.

The "3D Glasstic" build from the previous A-series generation is here to stay, only now it has pastel shade pattern combos. The phone will be offered in Prism Crush White, black, pink, and blue. The centered punch-hole selfie cam appears to be one of those unique features on upcoming Samsung phones, to better differentiate them from the competition.

The A51 measures 158.5 x 73.6 x 7.9 mm, and weighs 172g. It's powered by the Exynos 9611 chipset, with 4/6GB of RAM and 64/128GB of storage, expandable via microSD. The screen is a 6.5-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED, while the hole-punch is there for a 32 MP f/2.2 front-facing camera. The fingerprint sensor is of the in-display variety. A 4,000 mAh battery keeps the lights running, and it has support for 15W charging.

The Galaxy A51 will become official on December 12, at an event that was previously teased by Samsung's arm in Vietnam. This may be the only handset announced on that occasion, as apparently the A71 and a couple of other upcoming A-series models will only see the light of day next year.
