Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G unveiled with Snapdragon 778G chipset, 25W charger
The Samsung Galaxy A52 5G is one fine phone, but in our review we noted that the chipset (Snapdragon 750G) is a bit of a disappointment for the price and that the 15W charger speed is old news. Well, here comes an “s” version of the phone to fix both of those issues.
The new Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G arrives with a Snapdragon 778G, a 6nm chipset fabbed in TSMC’s foundries that features four Kryo 670 cores (based on the Cortex-A78), with a high end Adreno 642L GPU and an X53 5G modem (up to 3.3 Gbps downlink speeds). That’s quite a step up from the two A77-derived cores and Adreno 619 in the Snapdragon 750G that is being replaced (not to mention that one is fabbed on a less advanced 8 nm process at the Samsung foundries).
The new chipset does not come with a memory upgrade, but you still get fair amount of flexibility. The base configuration has 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage. You can get 8/128GB and 8/256GB too, subject to local availability. Keep in mind that there is a microSD slot if you find out that you need more storage later on.
The Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G upgrades to a Snapdragon 778G
The second major upgrade brought on by the Galaxy A52s 5G over the original model is the 25W fast charger. Technically, the A52 5G also supports 25W charging, but arrives only with a 15W adapter. Not so with the “s” model – you get the 25W charger, just like with the A72 5G.
Battery capacity is still at 4,500 mAh, which Samsung claims is enough for two days of use. The non-s model got an excellent 111h Endurance rating in our test, but how this new model performs is a question of the 750G vs. 778G.
This is because the display is the same, a 6.5” Super AMOLED panel with 120Hz refresh rate and 1080p+ resolution. As before, there is a fingerprint reader embedded into the display along with a 32MP selfie camera with a fixed-focus f/2.2 lens (alas, this was one of the not-so-great features of the A52 5G).
The rear camera remains unchanged too, with a 64MP main sensor (f/1.8 lens with OIS), 12MP ultra wide (f/2.2 FF) unit, as well as 5MP macro camera and 5MP depth sensor. There’s no telephoto camera here like on the A72 5G, however.
Anyway, the phone is rated IP67 for dust and water resistance (it can be submerged in up to 1m of fresh water for 30 minutes).
Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G in Awesome Mint, Awesome Violet, Awesome White and Awesome Black
In the UK the Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G will be available from September 3 (pre-orders begin on August 24, i.e. next Tuesday). The starting price is £410, which is just a tenner more than the A52 5G (6/128 GB). The phone will be available in four colors: Awesome Black, Awesome White, Awesome Violet and Awesome Mint.
Samsung announces Galaxy A52, Galaxy A52 5G and Galaxy A72
The new Galaxy A series started off with the entry level – the likes of the A32 and even A02 are already official, now it’s time to move up to the mid-range. Samsung unveiled the Galaxy A52 and A72 today, both focusing on fun but are also capable all-rounders.
The A52 comes in two flavors – 4G and 5G – while the A72 arrived only as a 4G phone. Let’s have a closer look at the new models.
Samsung Galaxy A52 and A52 5G
The Samsung Galaxy A52 is the smaller of the two phones. It has a flat 6.5” display and weighs in at 189grams with a battery that should last 2 days between charges.
The display is a Super AMOLED panel with 1080p+ resolution and a high refresh rate – 90Hz for the 4G model and 120Hz on the 5G version. In High Brightness Mode this panel can reach 800 nits of brightness for better visibility even in bright sunlight.
The display is protected by a sheet of Gorilla Glass 5, the rest of the phone has additional protection in place to earn it an IP67 rating (dust tight, submersion up to 1m of water for 30 minutes).
The Galaxy A52 has an IP67 rating • Samsung Knox offers digital protection • You can connect two pairs of BT headphones
The phone’s heart is its camera. The main module features a 64MP sensor with an f/1.8 aperture. It has Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and Tetra-binning tech – Samsung’s name for Quad Bayer. With it enabled, four 0.8µm pixels are combined into one. In its default mode, the camera outputs 16MP binned photos, but you can take full resolution 64MP shots as well.
Night Mode shoots 12 frames and combines them into one bright image with little noise. The OIS helps keeps things stable while Night Mode is doing its thing. The main camera can record 4K videos at 30 fps.
Next up is the 12MP ultra-wide angle camera (123º field of view). It has an f/2.2 lens with a fixed focus. Rounding up the quartet are the 5MP macro camera and the 5MP depth sensor.
The Galaxy A52 has a 4,500mAh battery and comes with a 15W charger in the box (unlike the pricier S-series). The phone supports 25W charger too – if you have one, you can fill the battery from 0% to 50% in half an hour.
The 4G model is powered by a Snapdragon 720G chipset, the 5G one gets the Snapdragon 750G instead. The CPU cores in the 750G are one generation newer and the Adreno GPU is slightly beefier (plus the display driver supports 120Hz refresh rate). Both are 8 nm chips.
If you pick the 4G model, you will get 4GB of RAM as standard, but can go up to 6GB and 8GB. The 5G model drops the 4GB option, there you can choose between 6GB and 8GB. Either way, base storage is 128GB and you can go up to 256GB if you want, but keep in mind that there’s a microSD slot available if you don’t need fast storage.
Samsung Galaxy A52 in Awesome Black, Blue Violet and Awesome White
The A52 runs One UI 3.1 built on top of Android 11 out of the box and packs the Knox suite of security features. The 32MP selfie camera can be used for face unlock or you can use the in-display fingerprint reader instead.
The phone has a decent set of multimedia features, starting with the basics – a 3.5mm headphone jack and stereo speakers. The speakers are backed by Dolby Atmos support, including a special “Dolby Atmos for gaming” mode.
The Samsung Galaxy A52 and A52 5G will be available soon in Black, Violet, White and Blue. The 4G version starts at €350, the 5G model can be yours for €430/£400. The A52 5G model is already on sale in the UK, you can find it on Samsung.com.

Samsung Galaxy A52 leaks in press renders
Samsung is working on expanding its range of affordable 5G devices even further, and one of the upcoming phones in that roster is the Galaxy A52 5G. This will follow in the footsteps of the A51 5G, which launched back in April.
A few press renders of the Galaxy A52 5G have been leaked today, so you can take a look at the smartphone in all its glory.
As you can see, it has a design that is very similar to that of its predecessor, while the camera island has gotten bigger and now each shooter has distinct rings around it inside the island. It's a design that's slightly more similar to what Samsung's been recently doing for its flagships, and it also looks slightly better than what we had on A-series phones in the past. It's not a huge difference, but it's the biggest one you'll find, design-wise, between the A51 5G and the A52 5G.
The new phone's dimensions will be 159.9 x 75.1 x 8.4mm, and the thickness grows to almost 10mm where the camera bump is. So compared to its predecessor it's 1mm longer, 1.5mm wider, and 0.3mm thinner. It will have a 6.5-inch screen with an embedded fingerprint sensor and centered hole-punch for the selfie camera, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The back will be plastic, while the frame is metal.
The Galaxy A51 5G launched priced at $499, and given how similar the A52 5G seems to it, perhaps it's wise to expect a similar price point. Or maybe slightly lower since 5G is less of a novelty these days. We'll have to do some more waiting for the official details, though, there's still no indication as to when those might come. We'll keep you posted.
