Samsung Galaxy S22, S22+ e S22 Ultra

Livestream dia 9 de Fevereiro às 15h.

Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22+ are official - same formula, but better

The Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22+ are official alongside the S22 Ultra, and as before, they lack a few of the Ultra's specs, but unlike before have all of its premium build quality.

The pair of sub-flagships are also slightly smaller than their predecessors, which is particularly crucial for the vanilla Galaxy S22 as it's bound to attract those that value flagship power in compact shells.

The Galaxy S22 and S22+ share the same chipset options. Depending on the market, you'll either get a 4nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, or a 4nm Exynos 2200 - both feature an octa-core processor with one Cortex-X2 core, three Cortex-A710 cores, and four Cortex-A510 ones. Both S22 and S22+ come in 8/128GB and 8/256GB configurations.

The cameras are also shared between the Galaxy S22 pair. The main one is the 50MP Samsung GN5 with a 1/1.57" imager with 1.0µm pixels that binns to a 12.5MP final snap with 2.0µm pixels.

There's also a 12MP 13mm ultrawide camera in front of a 1/2.55" 1.4µm sensor without autofocus (sigh). There's a 3x zoom camera with a 10MP sensor, not the 64MP digital zoom unit of the predecessors. For selfies, the pair of S22's use a 10MP fixed-focus cam.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 now fits a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X that's brighter and smarter with its refresh rate. It can reach a peak brightness of 1,300 nits and can adapt its refresh rate between 10Hz and 120Hz (the S21 did 48Hz-120Hz).

Dropping 0.1" compared to the S21's display has allowed the Galaxy S22 to shave 5mm of length, 0.6mm width and 0.3mm thickness, but it weighs about the same.

Another notable difference is the move away from plastic with this year's S series. The rear panel of the S22 is all glass, Gorilla Glass Victus+ at that. In fact, all Galaxy S22 devices have Victus+ glass on all their panels.

Battery-wise, the Galaxy S22 has a smaller, 3,700mAh battery, compared to its predecessor's 4,000mAh. It charges at the same maximum rate of 25W.

The Samsung Galaxy S22+ has a bigger 6.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x display that dynamically refreshes between 10Hz and 120Hz but achieves a higher 1750 nits of brightness.

The battery is bigger at 4,500mAh, with faster 45W wired charging. The S22+ also has Wi-Fi 6E, while the S22 only goes up to Wi-Fi 6.

Both new Galaxies come with Android 12 and OneUI 4.1 out of the box. Unsurprisingly they also have 5G on all their versions. They're IP68 waterproof, and use Samsung's ultrasonic fingerprint for biometric authentication.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22+ are available for pre-order starting today with actual shipments expected February 25. The S22 is €849/£769 for the 8/128GB and €899/£819 for the 8/256GB, while the S22+ is €1,049/£949 for the 8/128GB and €1,099/£999 for the 8/256GB, respectively.

The two phones come in Phantom Black, Phantom White, Green and Pink Gold across third party retailers, while additional Cream, Graphite, Sky Blue and Violet options will be available to those that order via Samsung.com.

Samsung announces the Galaxy S22 Ultra with S Pen

Samsung today announced the Galaxy S22 Ultra smartphone, which will be the company's first flagship for 2022 and the successor to both the 2021's Galaxy S21 Ultra and 2020's Galaxy Note20 Ultra. Alongside the usual year-on-year improvements, the main story here is the inclusion of the S Pen from the now defunct Galaxy Note line.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra features a design similar to the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra with a flattened front, back, top, and bottom with curved sides. One of the colors (Burgundy) even looks similar to the Mystic Bronze color of the Note 20. Like that phone, the S22 Ultra also feature a more gently curved display. On the back is the new camera array in a similar arrangement to last year's S21 Ultra but without the large raised island around it.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra uses an aluminum frame and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ on both the front and the back. The phone as well as the S Pen are IP68 water and dust resistant.

The new integrated S Pen features an updated latency of 2.8ms and AI-based co-ordinate prediction technology. Samsung has also improved the handwriting to text feature and it now supports 88 languages.

The new Quick Note feature allows you to attach or link content in a Pop Up note within Samsung's apps like Browser and Gallery. There's also a new Collaboration View feature that enables syncing between a Galaxy S22 Ultra and the Tab S8 Series. This lets you use the S22 Ultra to change your tools while drawing on the Tab S8.

The display on the S22 Ultra is similar to its predecessor. It's a 6.8-inch, 1440p Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a dynamic 120Hz refresh rate. Samsung claims 240Hz touch sampling rate, 1,750 nits of peak brightness, and 100 percent DCI-P3 coverage. The display also includes an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra features a the same 108MP F/1.8 main camera as the Galaxy S21 Ultra. Next to it are a 12MP f/2.2 ultrawide camera and a couple of telephoto snappers - 10MP F/2.4 3x and 10MP F/4.9 10x periscope

At the front you get a 40MP F/2.2 selfie camera. Instead of having new hardware, what the company has done instead is introduce new AI enhancement using the updated NPU to improve photo and video quality in low light as well as add new camera features.

One of the new features is Auto Framing. Using the ultrawide camera on the back, the phone is able to crop in and adjust the shot for the number of people in the frame. It can track up to ten people at once and will automatically zoom out when more people walk in. You can also manually zoom in or track one person in the group and the shot will be framed accordingly.

Samsung has also improved the portrait mode effect, which can now produce cleaner results and better background separation, even on animals. New studio lighting effects have also been added to correct lighting in edit. A night portrait mode has been added, which turns on automatically while shooting in low light.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra will come with either the new Exynos 2200 SoC from Samsung or the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 from Qualcomm. Both these flagship chipsets are based on the new 4nm manufacturing process and feature similar octa-core CPU design. However, while the Qualcomm chipset includes the company's Adreno 730 GPU, the Exynos chipset will feature the new AMD RDNA2-based Xclipse 920 GPU. Both feature improved AI processing, with Samsung claiming 2x faster NPU over the S21 series.

In terms of memory and storage, the S22 Ultra will start at 8GB memory with 128GB of storage. Other variants will feature up to 12GB of RAM and a choice of either 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of storage.

The S22 Ultra will ship with One UI 4.1 running on top of Android 12. It has a 5000mAh battery with support for up to 45W fast charging using a wired charger and 15W wirelessly.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra will be available in Phantom Black, Phantom White, Green, and Burgundy starting February 25 with pre-orders opening today. Additional Graphite, Red and Sky Blue color options will be exclusive to Samsung.com. Prices start at $1199/€1249 for the 8/128GB model.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra to feature 200MP Olympus camera, S Pen support

In stark contrast with a recent report claiming that the Galaxy S22 Ultra will "settle" for a more refined version of the current 108MP ISOCELL HM3 sensor, the new one says that the phone will indeed feature a 200MP main camera. IT also points at a January 2022 release.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra to feature 200MP Olympus camera, S Pen support

The report comes from a Korean publication citing various industry sources. And according to those sources, Olympus (the Japanese camera maker) has contacted Samsung to seek partnership. Reportedly, Samsung has agreed to the terms and the Galaxy S22 Ultra will feature a 5-lens, 200MP, Olympus-branded camera.

The report also suggests that an S Pen support is in order but we wonder if it would come bundled in the package since this isn't exactly a new feature. The current Galaxy S21 Ultra supports S Pen too.

In any case, we'll keep our ears open because we are getting conflicting reports and nothing is certain for now. Plus, if anything, the Galaxy S22 is not expected to be announced before next year.

Tipster reveals Samsung Galaxy S22 series display sizes, cameras and battery capacities

With last week’s Samsung Galaxy Unpacked in the books and the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3 official, it’s time to turn our attention to the next crop of Samsung flagships – the Galaxy S22 series. The latest report comes from noted Samsung leakster Ice Universe and details the key hardware specs of the three S22 models. The overall design is said to be a slight evolution of the current Galaxy S21 look.

Ice Universe post on Weibo

Starting with the display sizes, Samsung is expected to bring a 6.01-inch Galaxy S22 alongside a 6.55-inch Galaxy S22+ and a 6.81-inch Galaxy S22 Ultra model. For reference this year’s Galaxy S21 packs a 6.2-inch panel, the S21+ boasts a 6.7-inch diagonal while the S21 Ultra’s screen size stands at 6.8-inches.

All Galaxy S22 series phones are said to sport 120Hz refresh rates though the Ultra model will be the only one with QHD+ resolution and an LTPO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) panel allowing for dynamic refresh rate alteration and in turn, improved battery life management.

Samsung Galaxy S22 series display sizes, cameras and battery capacities leak

If these rumors hold up, the vanilla Galaxy S22 would be the smallest Galaxy S device since 2019’s Galaxy S10e and a true compact flagship Samsung phone to rival the iPhone 12 mini.

Moving on to the camera department Galaxy S22 and S22+ are expected to share an all-new 50MP 1/1.55-inch main sensors alongside a 12MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and 12MP ultrawide cam. The S22 Ultra on the other hand is said to pack a 108MP main cam alongside three 12MP auxiliary sensors – a short telephoto with 3x optical zoom, a periscope with 10x optical zoom and an ultrawide snapper.

Battery capacities on the S22 and S22+ will be smaller compared to their predecessors at 3,800 mAh and 4,000 mAh while the S22 Ultra will retain a 5,000 mAh cell. No word on charging speeds yet.

Last but not least leakster @FrontTron shared info that Samsung will stick with Snapdragon 898 chipsets for most of its Galaxy S22 devices due to production issues and low yields of its in-house Exynos 2200 SoC.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra's alleged renders leak with S Pen slot

The first set of renders have officially arrived, kicking off the next several weeks of renders, leaks, and rumors surrounding Samsung's next flagship smartphone. The renders arrive from reliable source @OnLeaks, so we may very well be looking at Samsung's next flagship in these renders. Keep in mind the renders don't represent final hardware exactly. Even if these are based on the actual device, the final design could change.

Anyway, on to the Samsung device in question. These renders represent the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and the design highly resembles what a Galaxy Note smartphone should look like. The top and bottom sides of the phone are flat, and the phone has a cylindrical shape, which reminds us of the Huawei Mate 30 Pro, the one with the waterfall display. The S22 Ultra doesn't appear to have this degree of a curve, however.

Let's shift focus to the quad-camera setup. It looks like it borrows the same camera hardware from the Galaxy S21 Ultra, down to the layout and position of the cameras. This has been dubbed the P-shape. The front-facing camera also appears to be unchanged.

Another notable feature of this phone is the slot for stowing an S Pen. This corroborates with two recent reports (1,2) about the phone carrying its own S Pen. Interestingly enough, the Galaxy S22 Ultra was reported to have the same size 5,000 mAh battery so Samsung might have managed to figure out how to re-arrange the phone's internals while making enough room to add the S Pen.

According to @OnLeaks leak partner Digit, The Galaxy S22 Ultra will have a 6.8-inch dual-curved display with high refresh rate and high-resolution. The dimensions provided are 163.2 x 77.9 x 8.9mm with the maximum thickness at 10.5mm if you include the camera bump.

There is no Galaxy Note smartphone for 2021, but the Galaxy S21 Ultra supported the S Pen. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Fold3 also supported a new S Pen, assuring enough alternatives for a proper Galaxy Note 20 Ultra successor.

We won't hear about Samsung's next flagship until the first quarter of next year. Samsung's Galaxy S21 lineup launched in late-January of 2021, so we could expect it to arrive around the same time or later.

BREAKING: This is the Galaxy S22 Ultra, come check it out!

Well, it’s finally happening, or should we say it’s happening a little earlier than usual this time around: The first live photo of Samsung’s next Galaxy S flagship has hit the internet, almost three months before it’s expected to go official. Pictures showing the Galaxy S22 Ultra and its updated rear-facing design and a built-in S Pen slot have been published by the folks over at FrontPageTech.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra — as seen in these first real-life photos — looks more like a Galaxy Note than a Galaxy S model. It’s almost as if Samsung went back to the drawing board after the launch of the Galaxy Note 20 and decided to update and bring back the Galaxy Note 10 design for a new generation.
Unlike the Note 10 series though, the back panel has a matte finish and six circular cutouts for the main cameras, the laser autofocus module, and the LED flash. The dedicated S Pen holster is there — on the left side of the phone. It’s hard to tell, but the back panel might be made of plastic.
The main camera setup should comprise a 108MP main shooter, a 12MP ultra-wide sensor, and two 10MP telephoto cameras with 3x and 10x zoom capabilities. The selfie camera is contained in an Infinity-O display cutout, as UDC (Under-Display Camera) technology is not yet ready to drop its Galaxy Z Fold 3 exclusivity.
After a bit of back and forth regarding the possible release of the Galaxy S22 series, many industry watchers now agree that the lineup should be launched in February.

Samsung’s Galaxy S22 launch event just got ruined again, as all three Galaxy S22 models have posed for the camera in leaked photos posted on Twitter. The Galaxy S22 and the Galaxy S22+ with their reflective backs can be seen sitting next to the Galaxy S22 Ultra with its matte back finish, and we get to see all three models in both black and white!
Samsung fans were probably not expecting to see a leak of this magnitude so early on. It basically confirms what the upcoming flagship series is going to look like. It also backs up rumors about the Galaxy S22 Ultra having Galaxy Note DNA.

Here’s a great look at Samsung’s upcoming flagships!

The Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ appear not all that different. Samsung has clearly kept all of the major design changes for the Galaxy S22 Ultra. It has a more boxy appearance that’s quite similar to the Galaxy Note lineup. The camera cutouts are different as well while the matte finish gives the device a look of understated elegance.
There’s a possibility that these might be dummy units that we are seeing here. If you look closely, you can see that there’s no periscope lens on the Galaxy S21 Ultra. There will definitely be one on the actual device, as we’ve also seen in previously leaked images of the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
The Galaxy S22 seen here also has a lot more shine to its back than we’d expect it to have, considering the fact that it’s supposed to have a plastic back. So this may yet be another indication that these are dummy units. Nevertheless, they give us a good idea of what the new devices will look like.
As rumors have already revealed, the Galaxy S22 Ultra will have an internal silo where the S Pen can be stored. Samsung seems to have absorbed the Galaxy Note series into the Ultra model of its Galaxy S series. This doesn’t look good for the future of Samsung’s beloved phablet lineup.
Be that as it may, it’s exciting to see so early on what Samsung has in store for us next year. With such leaks already coming up, it goes without saying that we can expect a lot more detailed leaks in the days to come.
We’ll keep an eye out for them and update you as soon as they come in. Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy S22 series in February next year.

12/128 no Ultra...? really?
