Single Core Battle : Intel Wolfdale-L vs AMD Spica

We have discussed about the performance and mainstream Yorkfield and Wolfdale processors from Intel and compared to the AMD offerings; Altair and Antares for year 2007. Now we will tell you more about the value offerings from Intel and AMD for next year. As previously reported, Intel will release native 2MB L2 cache Conroe early next year to cut costs and better position against 65nm AMD Brisbane processors. Intel will also introduce Conroe-L "Pentium" and Conroe-L "Celeron" in Q2 next year to compete against AMD Sparta processors within the value segment. By end of next year, 45nm Wolfdale-L will succeed Conroe-L in the value segment featuring 800FSB and 1MB L2 cache. Wolfdale-L is one cool chip with TDP touching a mere 35W but clock speed hitting as high as 3GHz. AMD might have some problems challenging Intel in the value space next year.
