SiS Releases Windows Vista Ready SiS671FX Chipset


SiS today announced that the newly-released SiS671FX integrated chipset is specially designed for Intel platform and is considered one of the most valuable products in mainstream market.



Following the development of Microsoft Windows Vista operating system, SiS proudly unveiled its latest SiS671FX chipset supporting this next-generation OS in Q4, 2006. The SiS671FX chipset is for Intel desktop PCs platform, and it aims to provide outstanding system performance by supporting Windows Vista. It supports Intel Core 2 Duo processors, and also supports FSB up to 1066MHz. Besides, the SiS671FX chipset integrates Mirage 3 graphics engine to provide DX9.0 hardware support and extremely advanced 2D and 3D graphics effects. Combining with SiS Real Video Technology, the SiS671FX chipset is able to deliver superior static and dynamic images. In addition, the SiS671FX supports one PCI Express x16 slot to provide up to 4GB/s of bandwidth for each direction.

In addition, power-saving is another feature of the SiS671FX chipset. The SiS671FX is integrated with the SiS Mirage 3 graphics engine with "Smart Dynamic Clock Gating" technology. It can automatically adjust the clock no matter in 2D or 3D condition, resulting in less loading of the system so that it saves around 40% of power-consumption.

The SiS968 Southbridge chipset is paired with the SiS671FX Northbridge chipset to provide most powerful performance. SiS proprietary MuTIOL technology provides transmission bandwidth up to 1GB/s between Northbridge and Southbridge. The SiS968 Southbridge chipset features 2 SATA 3G connectors to provide up to 300MB/s of data transmission for each storage device. It also supports high-speed Gigabit Ethernet which enables users to have ultimate internet experience. Power management is the most competitive function of the SiS968 Southbridge chipset. All of the devices, connecting with the SiS968, include PCIe, PCI, SATA, USB2.0, Gigabit Ethernet, and High-Definition Audio, can be automatically detected the status and be distributed power accordingly. Such an excellent design enables Southbridge to efficiently manage power and saves at least 50% of power-consumption.

Intel Kicks ATI to the Door and Invites in SIS

DailyTech previously reported on Intel’s Desktop Board motherboard roadmap back in June. At the time the then current roadmap listed an upcoming Intel Desktop Board D103GGV Gem Valley slated for release in 2H’2006. The motherboard was expected to feature a variant of ATI’s Radeon Xpress chipset. Since the completion of the AMD ATI merger, Intel’s latest roadmap makes no mention of the D103GGV Gem Valley motherboard.

The current D102GGC2 Grant County 2 based on ATI’s Radeon Xpress 200 is still on the latest roadmap, and a few boards have even made it out the door. Intel’s latest Desktop Board roadmap lists mostly motherboards powered by Intel’s in-house developed chipsets. On the other hand, there is one exception that’s expected in Q2’07; the new D201GLY Little Valley. Intel Desktop Board D201GLY Little Valley is currently expected to be powered by a SIS 662 chipset and feature a mini ITX form factor. The SIS 662 chipset was previously released in early July.

The design for the upcoming D201GLY Little Valley hasn’t been finalized yet. Intel’s roadmap signifies the D201GLY Little Valley as being in earlier preliminary stages. Expect the D201GLY Little Valley to arrive in Q2’07 around the same time the first Bearlake motherboards appear.

Por um lado deixam a AMD de fora, por outro lado chamam a SIS para produzir chipset high-end.
Não sei se será necessariamente uma boa jogada por parte da Intel. :shifteye:
 
A ATI e a SIS anteriormente estavam a produzir cerca de 1.5 Milhoes de chipsets por mês para a Intel para o mercado Low-end e descontinued.

Salta a ATI por razoes obvias e fica so a SIS. Nada do outro mundo.
A SIS é que vai ganhar os contratos que antes eram da ATI.

Que contratos ?
Isto não tem nada a ver com o Grant County, não são boards ATX ou sequer Micro-ATX...
Mini-ITX é um formato que se adequa, antes de mais, a quiosques electrónicos, pontos de venda automáticos, etc.
É isso que tem permitido a sobrevivência do formato criado pela VIA.
 
Não é uma board high-end, bem pelo contrário.

Até o formato Mini-ITX já te deveria ter dito alguma coisa...
até parece que existe alguma ligação directa entre mini-itx e low end.

por acaso aquela afirmação seguiu do que me foi dado a entender no fórum da XS, mas se estamos a falar de um substituto para o Xpress 200, é normal que seja considerado high-end. afinal estamos a falar de uma board com suporte Merom (já que é para HTPC).
