Socket AM2- M2 motherboards to cost $5 to $10 more

We tested some of the 975X boards out there but none can support Conroe so far and not even a BIOS update can fix it. Apparently there are some hardware modifications that need to be done to the board before Conroe can run on it. That means there will be new revisions of 975X boards coming out in the next few months to support Conroe. More pics and discuss here.

Foi aqui} que li. Blaster onde viste o contrario?

Socket AM2 information
Today three sites have new information about the forthcoming AMD socket called AM2. As we all know, it's going to use new 940 pin socket(not compatible with the existing Socket 940) and DDR2 memory. At gathering.tweakers.net you can see some spy photos from the MSI K9N Platinum (Socket AM2) board. AnandTech also has this "AMD AM2: More than just a Memory Change" article, with some detailed Socket AM2 HSF Cage pictures. Finally VR-Zone comes with complete listing of NVIDIA's upcoming AM2 chipsets:

* C51XE+MCP55PXE: Supports Socket M2 FX & Athlon 64 processors, 2 x16 SLI slots (total 46 lanes, 9 links), Six SATA ports with RAID5, dual Gigabit LAN with ActiveArmor and UAA Audio.
* MCP55P SLI: Supports Socket M2 FX & Athlon 64 processors, 2 x8 SLI slots (total 28 lanes, 6 links), Six SATA ports with RAID5, Dual Gigabit LAN with ActiveArmor and UAA Audio
* MCP55 Ultra: Supports Socket M2 FX & Athlon 64 processors, 1 x16 slot (total 20 lanes, 5 links), Six SATA ports with RAID5, Dual Gigabit LAN with Active Armor and UAA Audio.
* MCP55S : Supports Socket M2 Sempron processors, four SATA ports, one Gigabit LAN, UAA Audio

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has reached agreements with unspecified Taiwan motherboard makers for presenting its next-generation Socket-M2 processors at CeBIT 2006, industry sources noted.

By the end of this month, most motherboard makers will receive samples of AMD's next-generation 940-pin platform for sampling for the March 9-15 CeBIT exhibition, according to the sources. Those motherboard companies, however, will need to follow customer confidentiality agreements with AMD and only showcase the respective M2-based models during the show while not revealing detailed specifications.

AMD plans to stop production of its 939- and 754-pin platforms by the first quarter of 2007, the sources indicated.
