Message: "Norton AntiVirus 2005 does not support the repair feature. Please uninstall and reinstall."



Situation:
You may see the message "Norton AntiVirus 2005 does not support the repair feature. Please uninstall and reinstall." during the installation of Norton AntiVirus 2005. This message can also appear when starting the computer or when opening a Microsoft Office document or worksheet after Norton AntiVirus is installed.

Solution:
How you fix the problem depends on your situation. Read "Decide what to do" for a description of the possible situations and what to do.

Decide what to do
Do the following depending on your situation:

If the error happens during install, then go to "Solution 1: Restore the Windows Start menu entry for Norton AntiVirus."
If the error happens when opening a Microsoft Office document or worksheet, then go to "Solution 2: Disable the Office plug-in."
If neither solution fixes the problem, then try "Solution 3: Remove and reinstall Norton AntiVirus."


Solution 1: Restore the Windows Start menu entry for Norton AntiVirus
This message can happen if you have changed the default location for the Norton AntiVirus shortcuts in the Windows Start Menu. The default locations of the shortcuts are:
In the stand-alone version of Norton AntiVirus:
\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Norton AntiVirus
In Norton AntiVirus installed as part of Norton Internet Security:
\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Norton Internet Security\Norton AntiVirus
In Norton AntiVirus installed as part of Norton SystemWorks:
\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Norton SystemWorks\Norton AntiVirus
\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Norton SystemWorks Premier\Norton AntiVirus

If you have moved the shortcuts from the default location, then move them back to their original location to fix the problem. For details, read the next section.

Follow the steps for your product. Click the icon to the left of the section to either expand ( ) or collapse ( ) it.(If you cannot open a section, then your Web browser does not let scripts run, or the Windows Script host is not working. To restore the Windows Start menu for Norton AntiVirus

To restore the Windows Start menu for Norton AntiVirus
Follow the steps in each section in the order listed.

To create the Norton AntiVirus Start menu folder
On the Windows desktop, right-click Start > Open All Users.
In the right pane, double-click Programs.
On the menu, click File > New > Folder.
In the right pane, type Norton AntiVirus and then click a blank space in the pane to save the name.
Go to the next section

To copy the Norton AntiVirus shortcuts to the new Start menu folder
On the toolbar, click Folder.
In the left pane, go to the folder where you moved the Norton AntiVirus menu shortcuts.
Click the folder.
Click the right pane and then, from the menu, click Edit > Select All.
From the menu, click Edit > Copy.
On the Windows desktop, right-click Start > Open All Users.
In the right pane, double-click Programs.
Double-click Norton AntiVirus.
From the menu, click Edit > Paste.
Exit Windows Explorer.
If this does not fix the problem, then go on to the section "Remove and reinstall Norton AntiVirus."

To restore the Windows Start menu for Norton Internet Security
Follow the steps in each section in the order listed.

To create the Norton AntiVirus Start menu folder

In the right pane, double-click Programs.
In the right pane, double-click Norton Internet Security.
On the menu, click File > New > Folder.
In the right pane, type Norton AntiVirus and then click a blank space in the pane to save the name.

In the right pane, double-click Norton SystemWorks. (If you have Norton SystemWorks Premier, then double-click Norton SystemWorks Premier.)
On the menu, click File > New > Folder.
In the right pane, type Norton AntiVirus and then click a blank space in the pane to save the name.
Go to the next section

To copy the Norton AntiVirus shortcuts to the new Start menu folder
On the toolbar, click Folder.
In the left pane, go to the folder where you moved the Norton AntiVirus menu shortcuts.
Click the folder.
Click the right pane and then, from the menu, click Edit > Select All.
From the menu, click Edit > Copy.
On the Windows desktop, right-click Start > Open All Users.

If this does not fix the problem, then go on to the section "Remove and reinstall Norton AntiVirus."



Solution 2: Disable the Office plug-in
To fix the problem, disable the Norton AntiVirus plug-in for Microsoft Office.

To disable the Norton AntiVirus Office plug-in
For instructions, see the document Turning on and turning off the Norton AntiVirus plug-in for Microsoft Office. Follow the steps in the section "To disable the plug-in for Office 2000 or Office XP" under your version of Norton AntiVirus.

If this does not fix the problem, then go on to the section "Solution 3: Remove and reinstall Norton AntiVirus."


Solution 3: Remove and reinstall Norton AntiVirus
Follow the steps in each section to uninstall Norton AntiVirus, restart the computer with no other programs running on start up and then reinstall the program.

To uninstall Norton AntiVirus
Uninstall Norton AntiVirus or Norton Internet Security using Windows Add/Remove Programs. Read Uninstalling Norton AntiVirus 2005 for detailed instructions.

If the uninstall fails, then you must manually remove the program. For detailed instructions, read the document that applies to your version of Windows.

To reinstall Norton AntiVirus
Follow the instruction in the document Reinstalling your Symantec program after a failed installation or after you see error messages to start the computer without any programs running on startup and then reinstall Norton AntiVirus 2005, Norton Internet Security 2005, Norton SystemWorks 2005 or Norton SystemWorks 2005 Premier.

UM ESPECTÁCULO... cada versão é melhor que à anterior.

Fiquei a pensar porque é que a Symantec colocou a opção de Plug-in para o Office se aquilo dá barraca e posteriormente tem de ser desactivada ?!!!

E o não deixar estruturar o Start... hehehe... um Must :-D

Os programas da symantec tem uma habito espectacular de criar uma pasta nos discos rígidos que é um autentico ninho para trojans e backdoors.

Soluçao: Nao o usem!

A versao 2003 é de facto a melhor até hoje!
 
por acaso o meu tb anda com essa parvalheira...tenho de fazer um search aki no fórum pq me lembro de haver um "BEST OF AV SOFTWARE" por algum lado...a symantec é muito "plug n´play" mas está cada x pior...dasssssss

sim, tb axo o mesmo e é a ke eu uso...
já instalei no trabalho as versoes 2004 e 2005, e detestei-as. sao demasiado pesadas para o trabalho ke fazem... mas prontos, os clientes é ke kerem (e eles têm sp razao)
