TDK veloCD 48/24/48 CD-RW
TDK has been a leader in the storage industry for more than a decade. Best known for recording media, TDK's product line has evolved from audio and video cassettes to optical storage products like blank CD and DVD discs. Within the last few years, TDK has grabbed a larger share of the optical storage industry by offering their own line of CD-RW drives. With good looks and some of the fastest reading and writing speeds available, these drives were popular right from the start.
In the last year or so maximum recording speeds have more than doubled, and have gone from 32x to an incredible 48x within the last few months alone. While some companies are planning to push recording speeds to 52x, others like Plextor have announced that 48x is fast enough. As recording speeds have started to test the physical limits of CD-R media, companies have started to focus on rewriting speeds. With the new Ultra Speed standard allowing faster rewriting speeds, drives with rewriting speeds as high as 24x have already started to hit the market.
One of the first of these is the new veloCD from TDK. Along with some of the fastest reading and writing speeds currently available, the veloCD 48/24/48 is one of the first 48x writers to feature 16x and 24x rewriting speeds. As has always been the case with TDK, this new drive isn't just about speed. The new veloCD offers a long list of features including SMART-Burn buffer underrun protection and SMART-X extraction monitoring technology.
TDK once again honored us by letting us be one of the first to test out their new veloCD. Over the past couple of weeks we've had the time to poke, prod and put TDK's new veloCD through its paces. In this review we'll take a look at the features found on the veloCD 48/24/48 and see how it compares to some of the fastest writers currently available. Stay with us as we take TDK's new 48x writer for a spin
