Elder Scrolls V release date announced, gets trailer ( Skyrim will be here in November 2011 )

Bethesda has announced the release date of the Elder Scrolls V will be November 11, 2011.

TES V: Skyrim was shown off at the VGAs in Los Angeles last night.

The title will be a direct sequel to Oblivion and has been in development for two years. Bethesda is yet to confirm the platforms that Skyrim will be released on.

Skyrim has been seen in previous Elder Scrolls games, and is famous for being one of the most bitterly cold provinces in all of Tamriel.
Skyrim, also known as "The Throat", gets its nickname from the fact that it's directly north of "The Heartland", Cyrodiil.

The arctic province is largely populated by the hot-tempered race called the Nords who have become accustomed to the bitter winters.

Elder Scrolls V tech took "many years" ( Platforms named. )

The technology powering next year's sure to be gargantuan fantasy role-playing game Elder Scrolls V has taken developer Bethesda "many years" to create, it revealed today.

However, Bethesda failed to clarify exactly which engine is being used to build the game.

Over the weekend Bethesda said Elder Scrolls V is powered by a new engine. "We can now confirm that the TES V: Skyrim engine is all-new. And it looks fantastic," Bethesda community man Nick Breckon tweeted. "It's a new graphics/gameplay engine built internally. We'll have more details down the road."

This afternoon, questions remain unanswered. Is TESV built upon a rejuvenated version of the Gamebryo technology underpinning renowned RPGs Oblivion and Fallout 3? If not, what is the "all-new" engine called?

Bethesda's announcement does, however, scotch rumours that the game will use id Tech 5 - a set of tools only acquired by Bethesda parent ZeniMax in 2009.

"We've been working for many years on Skyrim and the technology behind it," game director Todd Howard commented.

"A new Elder Scrolls game has been a long time coming, and we can't wait to show it off."

When that showing off will happen now looks like early next year.

Meanwhile, the platforms named for huge new fantasy RPG The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim are, drum roll, PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

TESV: Skyrim powered by Creation Engine ( Bethesda's new invention dissected. )

Besthesda has named the new engine underpinning The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. It is known as the Creation Engine.

Let's tackle the graphics first.

"The big things for us were to draw a lot of stuff in the distance so we have a really sophisticated level of detail, more so than what we've had in the past for how things stream in and how detail gets added to them as they get closer to the camera," Skyrim's creative director Todd Howard told Game Informer.

Not only will landscapes look more convincing far away, but now shadows will be cast on "everything" to make scenery more believable up close.

The result? A mountainous Nordic landscape promising snow-touched rocky vistas, ice cold brooks, fierce green forests and clear, azure blue skies. There's even a clever snow engine that tries to realistically blanket objects with sporadic fluffy white downpours.

The foliage system used for Oblivion, SpeedTree, has been dumped. Bethesda's own tools mean artists can quickly build and animate any kind of tree they want. Trees in Skyrim even offer clues about the weather conditions; a leaning copse hints at a windy traverse ahead, for instance.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – details outed on combat, leveling, races, more

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim combat detailed ( Perks! Spells! Stealth! Arrows! Shouting!. )

Combat in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will be more brutal, tactile and intricate than ever before, according to the latest nuggets of information spilling out of Bethesda Game Studios.

The game's basic two-handed combat system will allow you to equip any weapon or spell to either of your character's hands – or a two-handed weapon to both at once – and a quick-select menu will be available to swap between loadouts you've preconfigured, game director Todd Howard told Game Informer.

Weapons will include swords, shields, maces, axes or two-handed weapons, and you will be able to specialise in each to improve it or receive specific perks. The axe perk, for example, hits enemies with residual bleeding damage per blow. The bow and arrow, meanwhile, will take longer to charge up but do much more damage.

On the spell-casting side, Bethesda was apparently inspired by the fast-paced plasmid-slinging action in BioShock. There will be over 85 spells across the five schools of magic – destruction, restoration, illusion, alteration and conjuration. The old school of mysticism was deemed redundant and those spells go into other schools of magic.

Bethesda isn't saying whether it will be possible to combine spells yet, but Howard indicated it was under consideration. "We'd like to," he said. "It'd be awesome."

Stealth gameplay is described as basically the same except enemies go into an alert state when they think they see or hear something. When this happens players with a higher sneak skill have a little time to hide. With a much more powerful dagger to hand, it will also be possible to take people out from behind if you get close enough.

"Now when you sneak up behind guys, the dagger does something like 10x damage. I don't know if we're going to keep that, but you feel like you should be killing the guy if you've gotten that close and you have a dagger," Howard explained.

Since you're dragonborn, you should be able to use dragon shouts during battle too – and these will do things like slowing down time or summoning a dragon to assist.

The defensive side of the game has received attention too. Block and strike timings are very important now, and there's also a block bash move that exposes an enemy to a counter. And while it's still possible to dodge attacks, you won't be able to whack someone then just leg it to escape the encounter.

Visually combat should be more interesting too, with various staggering effects and camera shake in close quarters, and special kill animations for each weapon and enemy – and indeed battle conditions. Havok physics will be more obvious in spell-casting too, apparently.

Skyrim is due out for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on 11th November and is powered by Bethesda's new Creation Engine.

Só espero que seja tão bom como o elder scrolls IV.
Acho que nunca joguei um Single Player RPG tantas horas como o elder scrolls IV.

Can't wait :D

Ui, parece brilhante! Nunca joguei o anterior e dizem que perco muito por isso... se houver algum tipo de seguimento até me vai abrir o apetite de comprar.

Conceive now to have a Skyrim baby ( Bethesda challenges you. )

Feeling horny? Bethesda has worked out that today is the ideal time to start growing a baby if you want it to be ready to pop out on "Skyrim Day" - 11th November 2011.

What's more, Bethesda marketeer Pete Hines is offering an "unknown reward" to anyone who fancies naming their Skyrim Day baby Dovahkiin (Dragonborn).

No, really - the Bethesda blog says so.

Maybe you'll get a free copy of the game. Quick, go and have sex with a complete stranger!
