Mina may seem like she takes risks as a pilot, but they’re calculated, she’s always in control of herself and adaptable to her surroundings. Though I investigated her background more extensively I am still affected by something she said when we first met.“If you break something you should learn to fix it, if you fear something you should seek to understand it, and if you hurt someone you should know how to stitch the wound.” I now know this wisdom came from her mother, and like all her teachings, Thunderbird honors it.

Growing up in the Nakoda Territories, it was her passion for preserving her community’s traditions that first led to her work in hydrology. She studied water storage, wastewater, and river management. She believes that understanding water’s relation to the earth is the first step in ensuring essential and accessible water sources for all peoples.

Thunderbird is nothing if not resourceful. I’ve seen her splint a broken bone with two sticks and a shoelace. But in our line of work we don’t always have time to tie shoelaces, let alone search for sticks. Her healing tech has come a long way since I first saw it. What impresses me most is the distribution method. She can’t be everywhere at once so I’m grateful to have another medic on the field, we can use as many friends as we can get. Sometimes a comforting presence while you heal is just as important as keeping you alive, luckily, she excels at both.

I wouldn’t have suggested we make Thunderbird an offer if I didn’t think she was a good fit, and I’m not just saying that because she saved my life."

Q - Will we be getting a gun range and is that idea even being considered?

This as been asked for a while now and even from people within the team. I am happy to say that we currently working on some prototype where the focus would be to learn & practice weapon recoil control. And also visualize the effet of different weapon attachments.

This although wouldnt be a primary place to warmup.

While we don’t have dates to share, we are actively working on a new Shooting Range that will allow players to test the Damage & Recoil from multiple distances and weapon setups. We really see the importance here to allow players to see the impact of weapon balancing more directly and concretely compare the changes from one update to another. We have a lot of plans for this feature and some ideas that are unique to Siege such as practicing Soft Wall destruction and testing the damage loss through different destructible materials.

We also feel that a Shooting Range is not enough Learning Tools for our players as there can be many so ways to learn the best way to use Operators, their gadgets, and the interactions between them. Our plan to continue supporting players with new Learning Tools for all types of Siege players.

Q - Will there ever be siege 2? And if not is the current engine capable of handling new updates?
A - Let’s talk about Siege 2 and even "Operation Health 2.0"!

First: Why did we do an Operation Health in the first place? At that time, we had significant technical debt - the architecture of Siege was limiting our capacity to ship new seasons while seamlessly updating our tech.

The investments that we made during Operation Health allowed us to parallelize these processes. And because of those investments, in the years following Operation Health we have been able to make huge technical and architectural changes behind the scenes, to allow for more advanced features and content. And if you never really saw it it’s because we were able to still maintain the release and the rhythm of new content every season.

So, it’s not because we continue to ship seasons that we are not working on updating the tech. As a matter of fact, this is one of the main reasons of the delay of some features.

Siege is an evolving game - the Siege of the future will be dramatically different from today's Siege, to the point where we could call it Siege 2. However, as a team, we strongly believe we can bring about these changes in an incremental way, within the current Siege framework.

Siege 2 would mean a new game, a new environment, probably a new inventory and maybe a new dev team. We do not feel that this is what is needed for the community. We care about your investment in the game, we do not want to move to a new one. Instead, we want to protect your investment and increase its value it by making your current “home” (which is SIEGE) even better. It’s like renovations to your old house to make it up to date, shiny and appealing.

Q - If we report a cheater ingame via the overlay, does an actual Human look into the report? If not how is it done?
A - Correct! When you report a cheater in-game, a human does see it.

We have a team dedicated to going through these reports and identifying cases that involve cheating. But, considering the high number of reports we receive each day, we have to prioritize which reports are reviewed immediately.

As you mentioned, reporting cheaters in-game where possible is the best bet. This makes is much easier to link a player to cheating behaviour and feeds directly into our anti-cheat system. What’s even better is that we’re already using these in-game reports as data to help train the Reputation System, so every legit in-game report helps to make that system even more reliable.

Q - Season three of year six is kind of vague, “Map buffs/reworks”. What kind of maps will we see be changed, Casual, ranked and competitive maps?
A - For Y6S3, we're doing Buffs in 3 competitive maps : Clubhouse, Coastline and Bank. The 3 maps received a complete tech overhaul (transparent to players) and some gameplay changes (balancing, quality of life). The total amount of changes in those 3 maps are about equal to the amount of changes of a single rework. We wanted to be more surgical but tweak more maps. Clubhouse has the least change while Coastline and bank have the most.

Q - You guys teased us about customizable elites at the start of year 6, it’s about halfway through season 2, any updates on a release?
A - We're looking to release the first iteration of this feature next season where you'll be able to mix and match Elite customization with other type of customization. OPERATOR BALANCING
Castle
  • Increased Armor Panels to 4 (was 3).
  • Reduced melee hits required to destroy a Armor Panels to 9 (was 12).

At their core, Castle's Armor Panels represent one of the most quintessentially "Siege" Operator abilities - reinforcement is in Siege's DNA. While they've served him well over the years, we felt his stock was a little limiting, especially with such a clear counter in Sledge.

Starting each round with one additional Armor Panel, this is expected to change how Castle approaches each map and encourage more creativity in their placement. Now, he'll be able to employ more complex defense setups and stand out as a more effective anchor pick, while feeling less of a sting if there's a Sledge on his case. Of course, this increased utility can't come without a small price - namely that it will take less melee hits to break each panel. Given the amount of time and effort required to destroy one of these with even the reduced value, we feel this is a more than fair tradeoff for the increased defense these barricades bring to the table.

Clash
  • Added Super Shorty (removed P-10C).
Population targeted by this change: Casual and Top Ranked.

Clash, say hello to the Super Shorty shotgun! With a pick rate of only 3%, the P-10C hasn't been seeing much use in Clash's loadout. Given that she already has a machine pistol at her disposal, we wanted to introduce a weapon to her kit that offers a different option from what she already has.

The Super Shorty will open up more gameplay options and utility for Clash, lending well to her up-close-and-personal style of play.

Kapkan
  • Number of Entry Denial Devices per door/window frame no longer limited to 1.
Population targeted by this change: Casual.

If one Entry Denial Device on a door is a fun surprise, what would you call five EDDs? In an effort to spice up Kapkan's gameplay, he can now place a greater number of traps on doors and window frames, both increasing their active coverage and possible damage output.

It should be noted that while he is no longer limited to one trap per door or window, the deployment space on each will still have a limit depending on their size. This means that while windows are capable of housing fewer EDDs than doors, they can still be stacked on either side of the frame, including on the inside and outside to maximize explosive impact. Triggered traps on a given frame will then explode in unison, dealing 60 damage each. For reference, depending on armor, you can expect three or more traps to be lethal (or just about).

This is expected to open up quite a few more options for creativity when locking down a site as Kapkan. Now, Attackers will have to contend with more unpredictability when facing him, as trapped doors can go from being a mild inconvenience to a full frag real quick. This should also make his ability function more logically, as given its size, it makes sense that attaching multiple traps to a single surface should be possible.

While you'll never come across a round with this many EDDs, this should help illustrate just how stacked windows and doors can get with Kapkan's rework

Melusi
  • Added Bullet Proof Camera (removed Nitro Cell).
Population targeted by this change: Casual and Top Ranked.

Even after the recent rework to her Banshee, Melusi continues to be a strong Operator. In particular, her win rate continues to trend upward. In order to tone down her fragging potential and focus in on her intel side, we've replaced her Nitro Cell with the Bullet Proof Camera.

This, combined with the set-it-and-forget-it intel-gathering capabilities of her Banshee will help to better define Melusi's role in matches outside of seemingly being able to do it all. She's an intel gatherer at heart and this should help to increase the utility value she brings to matches at the expense of some of her frag power.

Oryx
  • Reduced Remah Dash charge refill time to 8s (was 12s).
Population targeted by this change: Casual and Top Ranked.

As some of you may remember, we tweaked Oryx's Remah Dash in Y5S2.3, which included an increase to the time it took to refill charges. While the other aspects of the tweak have worked well since then, we've decided to roll back the charge refill time.

Charging around as Oryx is one of the main things that sets him apart, so we want to make sure players are able to make the most of this mobility. After all, waiting around to smash through an unsuspecting wall is no fun, so get ready for less downtime and more wanton wall destruction.

You can expect some more tweaks to Oryx in the future as well. His ability to climb through hatches is key to his gameplay identity, but it's a little slow at the moment. We're working on a solution to speed this up slightly, but it will take more time, so stay tuned.

Wamai
  • Increased max Mag-NET System to 6 (was 4).
  • Reduced Mag-NET System catching area to 3.5m (was 5m).
Population targeted by this change: Casual and Top Ranked.

Similar to Oryx, we've decided to roll back a change to Wamai from Y5S4 and tweak him slightly to account for this. We've heard your feedback about wanting a more viable alternative to Jäger and his ADS, and hope that by increasing Wamai's total Mag-NETs, this will increase his map control.

To account for the 50% increase in total Mag-NETs, their catching area has been decreased, which is expected to make their placement more predictable and easier to spot for Attackers. While this will temper their effectiveness slightly in larger environments, when used in the tighter confines of many maps, players are unlikely to notice a huge difference.

New Defender: Thorn
  • Medium speed Operator from the Irish Garda
  • Gadget: Razorbloom Shell x2
    • Thrown gadget that sticks to surfaces
    • Proximity-activated explosive trap (short delay between activation and explosion)
    • Lethality similar to frag grenades
    • Can be shot out or exploded, even during detonation sequence
    • Countered by Thatcher, Twitch, IQ, Zero
  • Primary weapons: New UZK.50GI submachine gun & M870 shotgun
    • New submachine gun packs considerable destructive abilities
  • Secondary weapons: C75 Auto & 1911 TACOPS
  • Secondary gadgets: Barbed Wire & Deployable Shield
Map Rework: Outback
  • Various updates to improve balancing and player comfort, simplified navigation
  • Reduced overall footprint

New Locations

  • 1F Convenience Store, 1F Compressor Room, 1F Gear Store, and 1F Beer Fridge have been combined into 1F Bike Repair and 1F Mechanic Shop (i.e. Garage-side completely re-done)
  • 2F Office Supply is larger and has an exterior soft wall
  • 1F Restaurant has been split into two rooms: 1F Restaurant and 1F Shark
  • 2F Covered Terrace is now an interior area that connects 2F Mezzanine and 2F Piano Room
  • 2F Piano Room stairs have been removed
Moved Bombsites

  • The bombsite 2F Dorms / 2F Laundry has been moved to 2F Laundry / 2F Piano Room
Gameplay Updates, New Features & Other Changes
Balancing: Cameras lose signal outside

  • When placed outdoors, Valkyrie's Black Eyes, Maestro's Evil Eyes, and the Bulletproof Camera will now lose signal after 10 seconds (similar to Echo or Mozzie drones)
  • Echo and Mozzie drones' signal lose timer has been increased to 10 seconds accordingly
Balancing: Finka changes

  • She can now use the Adrenal Surge to revive herself
  • Recoil boost has been removed
  • Cooldown has been doubled to 20 seconds
Balancing: Bulletproof Camera rework

  • Defenders can now rotate Bulletproof Cameras (similar to Maestro's Evil Eyes)
  • Can now fire EMP bursts that temporarily disable attacker gadgets
  • EMP cannot be used when hacked by Dokkaebi
User Interface Overhaul

  • Visual Overhaul: General aesthetics have been updated to be inline with the game's art direction
  • Improved Compass: Now display pings and other marker locations, includes feedback for height differences
  • Drone Counter: Defenders will have access to a counter that shows how many drones have been destroyed so far
  • Team Colors
    • Changed default team colors to blue & red
    • Your own team will always be blue by default, opponents always red
    • Team colors can be configured, options include blue, red, and orange
    • Future improvements: more colorblind-friendly options
  • Miscellaneous
    • HUD now shows ammo count for primary and secondary weapon at the same time
    • Text prompts (i.e. vault prompts) have been replaced by easy-to-read action-specific icons
    • Improved HUD customization
Customization

  • Elite Customization 2.0
    • In addition to Uniform and Headgear, you can now individually select Victory Celebrations, Operator Portraits, and Card Backgrounds
    • UI and UX changes have been made to facilitate these updates
  • Exotic 3D weapon skins
    • The Battle Pass now includes exotic 3D weapon skins with unique effects
Test Server Updates

  • Test Server availability to be split into three different sections during the season
    • Season Release: Contains new content that will ship at the start of the season
    • Lab Release: Contains experimental content, will be used to gather feedback for early-production content
    • Balancing Release: Contains Operator and balancing changes
  • Year 7 updates: Rewards for live-server account
R6Fix 2.0

  • Website's UI and UX has been overhauled
  • New notification system to allow you to track updates to reports
  • New severity system for reports
  • Ability for dev team to directly communicate with users
