PS3 Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (Naughty Dog)

Off-topic:

In an interview with PALGN, Naughty Dog game designer Evan Wells talked about the Upcoming PlayStation 3 exclusive, Uncharted. In the interview, Wells reveals much about the game including its length, quest, and why the game is perfect only for the PS3. Some of the key features revealed are as followed:

- First play-through should last 10-12 hours.
- There will be four levels of difficulty.
- There are 60 little treasures hidden throughout the game to keep the gamer immersed for hours on in, expanding the length of the game’s experience.
- Rumble is built right into the game.

"We've also put into the game a medal system, so as you're playing the game if you perform special feats you'll get medals, such as getting a certain number of headshots, getting a certain number of headshots in a row, killing people, doing a special brawl combo, just lots of things along the way that will unlock the medals.

The medals then contribute to your overall medal score and your medal scores then feed into our bonus system which allows all of the unlockables to be unlocked.” said Evan Wells.

'Uncharted' Territory: Capturing Human Emotion in PS3 Games

There will soon come a day when creating a video game will be not much different than filming a movie.

Two games currently in development illustrate the fine line that divides the two processes -- and the actors who were cast for the games, rehearsed for them, and then acted in their "filming" can surely attest to their similarities.

Brand new technologies contributed to the creation of both games: Sony's Uncharted: Drake's Fortune -- expected to be released on Nov. 20 for the PlayStation 3 -- utilizes a state-of-the-art motion-capture process to give the illusion of life-like animated characters, while the martial arts fighters in Creative Edge Studios' Warriors of Elysia don't just seem real, they are real. For possibly the first time, live actors were filmed and their non-animated images placed in 3-D environments and made available for gamers to manipulate in real-time with whatever punches and kicks they choose. Warriors for the PC had been scheduled for year-end release but may be postponed until early 2008.

Sony and Creative Edge both claim that they are creating better games that benefit from being more lifelike because they capture human emotion. It remains to be seen whether gamers will agree when they vote with their pocketbooks....

Mais uma vez, boas noticias:009:

Uncharted Demo Confirmed For Next Thursday, US Release Date Bumped Up

It’s not often that we can jump up for joy, and say that we were right about something, but today, Amy Henning has confirmed our initial report regarding the Uncharted Demo on the Official Playstation blog. If you remember our previous story from last week, we unearthed a statement from Evan Wells, the co-president of Naughty Dog, stating that the demo for their upcoming game will probably hit PSN twelve days before the release of the game. We stood behind that report stating...

“As far as we are concerned, an Uncharted demo will be out 12 days before the American release…so in about 2 weeks! We can’t wait to get on down with Nathan Drake (uh, perhaps the wrong choice of words) on November 8th (at least on the US Playstation Store). Exciting stuff aye?”

Amy Henning, Gaming Director at Naughty Dog, replied to a poster on the Official Playstation blog stating the official release date of the demo...

“Hi Kittonwy — the demo will go live on the PSN next Thursday, November 8th.”

Well, as it turns out, the date we stated, wasn’t just close, it was right on the money! The Uncharted demo will grace your Playstation 3 on November 8th.

In terms of details, all we know about the demo at this point, is that it will start with Drake and Elena parachuting out of their plane onto an island. IGN believes that the demo will include the first four levels, but we here at Ripten find that highly unlikely.

A preview build given to journalists included the first four chapters, but since the game has 20 chapters in total, including four of them in the demo might be a bit of a stretch, especially when the game weighs in at 25gb of Blu-ray goodness.

So rejoice, in fact double rejoice, because the game will be released a day early in the US (November 19th), as stated in this recent blog post, which also features a nifty new trailer. As the release date approaches, remember to check back with us for our review of the game as well — till then, enjoy the demo.
