Hudson Announces Shadow Tower
An Ico-ish platformer set in the world of shadows.
Hudson Soft's Japanese HQ released the first word today on Shadow Tower, a new platform game for the Wii with a unique visual look reminiscent of Team Ico's work. The titular "shadow tower" is a great big edifice in the middle of what seems to be an otherwise abandoned, backwater land. You control a nameless boy -- or, more accurately, the shadow of a nameless boy -- as he tries to ascend this tower. Since he's just a shadow, though, he doesn't navigate over the platforms and traps in every level, but on the shadows they cast instead.
The entirety of the game, then, plays out on the shadows that things cast on walls and the ground in each stage. The shadow-boy is capable of interacting with the real world to some extent -- if he pulls the shadow of a lever, then the real lever moves as well, for example. That won't be enough to get him through every obstacle, though, so the boy also has a partner, a black butterfly that flies around and helps out. One of the demonstrated ways she does this: moving a light source around, thus changing all the shadows and making a previously-unpassable "hole" easier to jump over.
The title has no release date in Japan or elsewhere yet.
