Este jogo está qualquer coisa. Gosto do pormenor de não haver um interface no ecrã. Gosto bastante das cores, tornam o cenário muito rico (é por isso que Madworld não me diz nada, mas é um aparte)...
Falta saber como será a jogabilidade...

Review: Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars
There's not mushroom for improvement here

On a pizza? Most definitely. As a burger topping? Goodness, yes. Mixed into a salad? If healthy is your thing, then we suppose so. But to be honest, we never imagined that mushrooms would make the jump from 'oh-so-tasty foodstuff' to 'starring role in a videogame' with much success. More fool us then for having any doubts. Thanks to its old-school platform stylings, emphasis on exploration and a refreshingly different storyline, Mushroom Men: Rise Of The Fungi is one of those games that starts off slowly and then grows on you until you're totally consumed by it. A bit like real fungus then, only less messy.

Admittedly, we've always had a thing for the underdog so Mushroom Men's premise grabbed our attention before we even got past the incredibly short opening tutorial. Taking control of a young mushroom lad named Pax, your way-too-much-for-one-man-to-handle mission involves travelling the land, looking for shattered meteorite parts (the same meteor that brought the mushroom race to life in the first place) and trying to restore peace to the warring mushroom factions.

That the land is essentially ours but seen from a two-inch-high perspective makes things tough, because even the simplest obstacles become gigantic mountains to overcome. That the meteor pieces have driven the local wildlife berserk - creating crazed moles, mutant rabbits and an owl with three eyes for instance - doesn't help. Oh, and then there's the fact that aside from a select few tribes, most of the mushrooms you'll encounter want to rip your cap clean off.

Mountains Out Of Molehills
Despite being at a massive disadvantage from the start though, Mushroom Men gives you all the tools you could need to see Pax's mission through to the bitter end. A big part of this is how the game allows you to approach each situation in a number of different ways, both in terms of combat and puzzle solving. Granted, Mushroom Men isn't a sandbox-style open-ended adventure that lets you wander around aimlessly just messing about. It has fixed levels that have to be progressed through and key objectives that need to be met in order to move onto the next stage. But equally, Red Fly has worked hard on the level designs and puzzles contained within to ensure that there's never just one way of approaching a problem...

For example, take the first major area you encounter - a sprawling shed area infested with a variety of creepy crawlies and some particularly nasty rabbits. The aim is naturally to clear the area of the bunnies so you can move on without getting munched, but as they're significantly bigger than you it's not exactly clever to approach them head on. That's not to say you can't though, because Mushroom Men's combat system offers enough blocking, dodging and combo attacks to deal with anything you encounter. However, when the environment is littered with alternative methods of dispatching said rabbits (mainly of the 'drop things on their head' variety) that can be found by exploring upwards as well as on ground level, you start to see that the game places as much emphasis on exploration as it does on fighting.

Scavenger Hunt
Undoubtedly, this combination makes Mushroom Men's gameplay feel incredibly old-school. Almost all of the levels encourage you to search every corner in case they contain something hidden, be it an item required to make progress, a new path to overcoming an obstacle or a unique piece of scavenged material to turn into a new weapon. This weapon-building element is almost a game in itself, because there are so many combinations and so many hidden 'scav' items to find that those willing to search a little harder are always going to be rewarded. Needless to say, Mushroom Men more than satisfies our obsessive/compulsive side through its multiple layers of depth and large number of items to collect. Think Banjo-Kazooie but with more fungus than bears and you'll get the idea.

While Mushroom Men gets a lot right though, the one thing that does let things down is the temperamental camera. Admittedly, you can focus it back behind Pax at any time but the fact you can't lock it onto enemies targeting him means many fights involve running away to a safe distance and then doing a U-turn to get an idea of where everyone is without getting pummelled to bits. Plus, it can go a bit crazy when Pax gets too close to large solid obstacles like walls, which can cause problems due to the heavy emphasis on platform jumping and potential for misjudging distances.

It's a shame because if it wasn't for such an obvious irritation, Mushroom Men would undoubtedly be getting a Gold Award for its top-notch story, solid action and old-school puzzling solving. Unfortunately, its single failing happens to be a pretty major one - it doesn't stop us from recommending Mushroom Men, but it'll certainly have you swearing at your Wii Remote on more than a few occasions.

Some elements hidden near the end of the Wii's Mushroom Men game might make you think the developers are trying to say something about marriage.

Kris Taylor, co-founder of Texas game development studio Red Fly, admits that there are little innuendos in his team's 2008 Wii game about mushroom-sized, mushroom-shaped warriors.

That could include the name of the
most powerful "thrusting" weapon (Red Fly's classification, not ours): The Engagement Zinger.

And that might include:

the location of the game's final boss battle: the body and face of a creepy man's robot wife.

"The whole game was meant to be presented as kind of a dark tongue in cheek humor, with a little bit of grit layered on top." Taylor told Kotaku during a phone interview this week. It's like an old Bugs Bunny cartoon with some hidden stuff for an older audience. But not everything in the game was put there consciously, he added.

Taylor is happily married. His wife even asked him about being in the game. No, she's not the inspiration for the robot wife and she's not the motivation for making that deadliest of weapons an engagement ring held by a pair of tweezers.

These things just happen.

The Robot Wife idea came from the Red Fly team's discussion of a concept painting. They knew the:

final level of their game would be set in the relatively large confines of an Airstream trailer in the backwoods of Alabama or Arkansas. Taylor recalled the brainstorming session: "This guy needs to be one of those crazy people off the grid, full of UFO stuff and conspiracies. He's completely crazy and a drunk and he's always passed out there with a shotgun." That led to, as far as Taylor can recall, one of the developers on the team blurting out: "What if there's a robot wife he's built in there?" Removed from civilization, this man would have made his wife out of vacuum cleaner parts.

She'd have a TV for a head.

And, no, the game isn't trying to say anything about marriage.

"We'll let people form their own conclusions," Taylor said. "I think that's more interesting in art than giving people a specific message."

Taylor said that the Mushroom Men team at Red Fly Studio is hard at work creating concepts for a possible sequel, but have no further plans to announce.

Eu também... Este, o Deadly Creatures e o TC:New Blood... Infeliizmente só lá para dia 20 de Junho (depois dos exames... :D )
 
Bem finalmente hoje abri o jogo da caixa e tive a jogar.

Bem o que posso dizer, o jogo tá brutal, está mesmo muito divertido é basicamente um pure plataformer com pitadas de acção. Temos varios poderes, muitos inimigos diferentes e distintos, os bosses tradicionais, um grande e vasto conjunto de armas, que podemos construir a partir de objectos que encontramos no nosso caminho. Tem também muita exploração o jogo.

Os gráficos tão muito agradáveis (dá mesmo a sensação que pertencemos ao mundo dos cogumelos) e as frame rates são muito estáveis excepto em raras situações. Tem também uns níveis enormes e complexos sem loadings.

Os controlos estão também muito simples e intuitivos. Não sei porque da-me um cheiro a plataformes antigos o que adoro.

Estive toda a tarde a jogar, é realmente muito viciante o jogo. Uma maravilha para aqueles fans de plataformas.

Se estiverem interessados comprem o jogo, pois está a menos de 15€ incluindo portes e realmente vendeu muito pouco, o que é uma pena pois adoraria certamente uma sequela.
