WWE 2K Battlegrounds Leaps into the Ring This September
2K has announced that arcade-style brawler WWE 2K Battlegrounds will be heading to consoles and PC later this year, bringing over-the-top WWE action, care of developer Saber Interactive. The game will include a roster of more than 70 WWE Superstars and Legends, with DLC characters planned as post-launch DLC.
Like any WWE game, Battlegrounds will also feature several modes, including standard Exhibition matches for up to four players online or locally, a Campaign mode in which you'll guide seven new WWE hopefuls looking to score a WWE contract and unlock new arenas, and the online last-man-standing King of the Battleground mode, as well as Online tournaments.
Campaign mode will have 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin, Paul Heyman and other WWE personalities helping you along the way, with unlockable arenas including environments inspired by a military Bootcamp, the Everglades, Mexico, New York, and Scotland. There'll be eight different battlegrounds to choose from, each including a variety of interactive elements, melee weapons, and other stuff.
Play-by-play commentary will be provided by Mauro Ranallo and Jerry 'The King' Lawler, as you unleash arcade-style power-ups like the Flaming Fist, Ice Breath, and Earthquake as Superstars like Roman Reigns, Becky Lynch, Daniel Bryan, Asuka, Kofi Kingston, Randy Orton, Charlotte Flair, Drew McIntyre, and Legends like Sgt. Slaughter, Shawn Michaels, Undertaker, Andre the Giant, Mankind, and Yokozuna.
Each character will also fall under one of five classes -- Powerhouse, Technician, High-Flyer, Brawler, and All-Rounder, so you can find a Superstar that best fits your playstyle, in a game that promises to be "easy to pick up and play, but challenging to master". And, of course, you'll be able to customise your own arenas and use the Superstar Creator to build your own bespoke character with different body types, sizes, facial features, hair, fight style, and clothing.
WWE 2K Battlegrounds will be heading to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Stadia on 18th September, with a Standard Edition (priced $39.99/£34.99) and Digital Deluxe Edition (for $49.99/£44.99) that bundles Edge and all versions of 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin, The Rock, and Ronda Rousey unlocked from the start, as well as 1,100 Golden Bucks in-game currency to spend on unlocking characers and cosmetic items.
Pre-ordering the WWE 2K Battlegrounds Standard Edition will also get the WWE Hall of Famer Edge at launch. Check out the new trailer below.
