[X360] Beautiful Katamari Damacy (Namco-Bandai)

Namco Announces Beautiful Katamari Damacy
The latest Katamari rolls to PS3 and 360.

Namco has announced Beautiful Katamari Damacy for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, according to this week's Weekly Famitsu. Players can this time choose from more than 50 other characters besides the Prince, though their abilities will be pretty much the same. The environment is much bigger compared to the previous games, even to a point where you will be rolling a massive ball of katamari across the globe. Both versions of the game will also feature network compatibility but no specifics were disclosed.

So what about a Wii version? Jun Moriwaki, the director of the game comments, "The Wii is also one of our platform choices. We would like to challenge with different interfaces such as the keyboard on a PC, or the touch pad on the DS. However, the controller for Wii is quite unique so being able to overcome the different issues will be the key."

Looks like Wii owners will need to wait a little longer for a possible release. Beautiful Katamari Damacy is currently 50% complete; no release date for either version has been announced.

O unico anuncio oficial é a desta famitsu isso ai é um rumor:
I'm sure you're on to me that I'm trying to make you see the glass half full, but that's just because I really hope the rumor is true.

Parte do rumor já foi confirmado mas como se trata do mesmo titulo segundo o rumor é estranho não anunciarem a versão da wii ao mesmo tempo...

desculpem-me a ignorancia, mas... este jogo trata sobre?

The concept for this game is as idiosyncratic as its predecessor. Since the release of the original game, the King of all Cosmos and his son the Prince have acquired a fan base. The Prince receives a request from a fan at the start of the game. The objective of the game is to have the Prince fulfill each fan's request, which will make more fans (stages) appear until the whole game is mobbed with fans. Upon fulfilling each fan's request, the Katamari is given to the king, which he uses to create a new planet in the cosmos, this continues until there are enough planets in the cosmos to roll up the sun using the Earth as a katamari. Constellation data can be loaded from Katamari Damacy to help with this task.
The gameplay follows the same core mechanic: to gather material, the Prince pushes around his katamari, a magical, highly adhesive ball capable of grabbing anything smaller than itself. Initially, the katamari can only pick up smaller items like loose change and discarded pencils. As more items accumulate, the katamari's power grows, allowing it to pick up "vaulting boxes, pencils, erasers, postcards, ramen, robots, cows, sheep, this girl, that boy, moms and dads, bicycles, motorbikes, homes, buildings, rainbows, clouds, islands, hopes and dreams". Once the level is successfully completed, the katamari is launched into space and becomes a planet, satellite, or other celestial object. If the planet has already been created, the katamari can replace it or be shattered into "stardust."
The sequel adds many new objectives, including: making the katamari as large as possible with a limited number of objects, collecting objects for their monetary value, rolling a sumo wrestler over food items to gain body mass (and then into his opponent to win the match), pushing a snowball around to create the head of an enormous snowman, and a number of "fast as possible" time attacks challenges. Many levels have both a "big as possible" and a "fast as possible" objective, and some even have three similar objectives of increasing difficulty or size.
In the previous game, finding the prince's cousins only unlocked them for use in 2-player mode. We ♥ Katamari allows the player to switch to the cousins in the 1-player game as well. Additionally, two Royal Presents can now be worn: one on the head or face, and one on the body. The appearance of presents may differ depending on the character that wears them.

Beautiful Katamari Skips PS3, Goes Wii
Rumor: Sources allege publisher has quietly canned the PS3 build of the quirky title; started work on Wii effort instead.

June 29, 2007 - Namco Bandai revealed earlier this year that it was developing the next-generation Katamari Damacy sequel, Beautiful Katamari, for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Up until recently, the developer continued to work on both versions of the project. However, sources close to Namco Bandai tell IGN that the studio ran into some trouble with the port of the game to PlayStation 3 and these issues, coupled with the stalled sales of the system, have led to the project's quiet cancellation. Looking to better-than-expected sales of Wii, the company has, say insiders, re-shifted resources to ready a Wii build of Beautiful Katamari instead. Given that the title cannot be ported from Xbox 360, the game is being re-concepted for Wii.

This is not the first time Katamari has been rumored for Wii. In early 2007, reports of Katamari for Wii began to surface. However, development sources indicated at the time that Namco was not thrilled about the prospect about moving forward with the project, mostly because it was not convinced that Wii would be a success. The game's original creator has in the past been critical of Nintendo's platform, too.

We contacted Namco Bandai for comment, but a spokesperson for the company did not return our inquires in time for the publishing of this article.

As always, until we get an official confirmation from the company, this story should be considered rumor. However, when asked, our well-placed sources said the information was "100 percent reliable."

Stay tuned in the coming weeks for more.
