Climax working on “stunning and refreshing take on the horror genre”
A jobs listing on the Climax site has revealed that Climax is working on “an unannounced title for Codemasters as well as our stunning and refreshing take on the horror genre and our original ground breaking next-gen game for the PS3 and the Xbox 360.”
Looking at the site’s front page shows that two games - one for Wii and PSP and one for 360 and PS3 - are both in the works for Konami.
No one seems to know what the secret games are. They wouldn’t be a secret otherwise, would they?
We’re checking now. Thanks, GAF and Destructoid.

Virtual On Oratorio Tangram To comeback? - Gameplay da versão Dreamcast

virtualonnew9908460.gif

Virtual On - Oratorio Tangram and Let’s Catch just got rated for Australia. The biggest question mark is Virtual On, that seems to be filed for multi-platform, so it will most likely a port to be digitally distributed on PSN and XBLA. That would make me very happy.

If you didn’t catch it last time, Sega trademarked the game along with a bunch of other ones. Does this mean we will get Cosmic Smash, 18 Wheeler Pro Trucker and other Dreamcast awesomeness on our HD consoles? I hope so!

De relembrar que já tivemos um jogo Dreamcast no XBLA, o Soul Calibur :) Portanto, esperemos que tal se confirme!

[XBOX360]M$ com 3DV Systems??

What we heard: Last week, the Internet was abuzz with word that Microsoft was in talks to acquire a small firm specializing in motion-sensing technology. The reports all traced back to an article in the Israeli daily Haaretz, which claimed that Microsoft was prepared to shell out $35 million to subsume startup 3DV Systems, located in suburban Haifa.

What makes the potential deal interesting to gamers is that 3DV Systems specializes in a cutting-edge form of camera-based motion-sensing based on defense-industry research. The company claims its ZCam camera is more advanced than the PlayStation EyeToy or Microsoft Vision, and will provide better motion sensing than the Wii as well.

The 3DV site describes the technology thusly: "For the first time ever, you can use your body freely to control games, no wearables required, no limitations attached. Move your hand, leg, head or finger in any direction and setting, moving quickly or making fine, minor movement--all these gestures are easily detected and understood by the system, creating a unique, personalized, and immersive gaming experience. This experience is complemented by the ability to combine your own 3D image inside the game scene, in real time."

According to Haaretz, "Microsoft apparently plans to use 3DV Systems' technology in its own gaming technology, probably in the Xbox 360." Today on VentureBeat, former San Jose Mercury News reporter Dean Takahashi replaced that "apparently" with "definitely." "My sources confirm that this is true," he said of the deal. Takahashi, who demoed the ZCam himself, said its "motion detection was accurate, much more so than with the Wii."

The official story: "Microsoft does not comment on rumors or speculation."--A spokesperson on Microsoft's rapid PR response team.

Bogus or not bogus?: Not bogus. Takahashi didn't literally write the book on the Xbox--he wrote two of them: Opening the Xbox: Inside Microsoft's Plan to Unleash an Entertainment Revolution (2002) and The Xbox 360 Uncloaked: The Real Story Behind Microsoft's Next-Generation Video Game Console (2006). If any journalist has the contacts inside Microsoft to confirm or deny the deal, it's him.

Parece que vamos ter um EYE TOY... mas bastante melhor.!!

It's true. Sega is bringing Virtual On Oratorio Tangram, its hardcore arcade mech fighting game, to Xbox Live Arcade. The re-release has been officially announced in the latest issue of Japan's Famitsu Weekly.

The Xbox 360 release will be Cyber Troopers Virtual On Oratorio Tangram version 5.66, the final release for Sega's NAOMI arcade platform, released in 2000. The Xbox Live Arcade release, slated for April, has already been priced at 1200 Microsoft Points according to the mag.
Hopefully, the official announcement of VOOT means that more of Sega's Dreamcast and NAOMI titles are en route. After all, Sega registered the trademark for Virtual On Oratorio Tangram in December, alongside a slew of other Dreamcast era games over the past six months.
Those include ChuChu Rocket, Cosmic Smash, Jet Grind Radio, Sonic Shuffle and more. Sega has yet to confirm a re-release of any of those titles, however.

With the Dreamcast due for its tenth anniversary in North America later this year, will Sega capitalize on console nostalgia further? Oh, God, let's hope so.

XBLA Quake III Arena “very close” to being finished

id hero John Carmack’s told Joystiq that an XBLA version of Quake III Arena is almost done, although he’s failed to provide a specific release date. From the site:
Despite being first spotted on the ESRB’s leak-prone website nearly two years ago, and officially confirmed at QuakeCon over 18 months ago, id’s John Carmack assures us that Pi Studios – developers behind the Xbox Live Arcade release of classic multiplayer shooter Quake 3 Arena – is “actually very close to finishing that up.” He didn’t identify any specific reasons for the delay, but said that the developer had “different things come up at different times” like having to “shift people onto different projects.”
The news comes as Quake Live opens up its beta to all.

Ruffian project: “Crackdown 1.5? That’s generous. It’s more like 1.25″

Microsoft should get on and announce this. There’ll be nothing left before too long.

A UK publishing source has reliably informed VG247 that the unannounced Crackdown game in development at Ruffian is a multiplayer-only effort.

“Crackdown 1.5? That’s generous,” our man added. “It’s more like 1.25.”
When pushed on whether or not the project was definitely underway at Ruffian, the chatterer was unequivocal: “Oh yes, it is true.”

We’ve verified the lack of single-player with two other dev sources, who described the information as “good”.

The game is supposedly being scheduled for “late 2009″.

Ruffian, the newly-formed Scottish developer, announced this week that it’s taken on another two Crackdown veterans, and was mainly formed initially from Realtime Worlds staffers.
Microsoft was unavailable for comment at the time of writing.

Xbox 360 Devkit Spotted at Madworld Developer

Here is an interesting bit of information sure to add fuel to the belief that Sega is planning an Xbox 360 version of Madworld: A recent video tour of developer Platinum Games' studio reveals an Xbox 360 dev kit in full view of the camera. You can see the device, with its telltale extra height, sitting to the right of the designer's monitor at the beginning of the video below. Why would the lead animation designer for Madworld Wii need an Xbox 360 development kit so close to his workstation, unless….

“A New Experience In the Halo Universe”-Coming Soon From Microsoft Game Studios

Halo Wars now, Orbital Drop Shock Trooper in November, and the Halo experience it seems shows no signs of letting any steam off. A plethora of job postings at our beloved Gamasutra tell many Halo fans that Microsoft is currently looking out for lead Designer(s), executive producer(s), lead environment artist(s), technical art director(s), senior concept artist(s) , animation director(s) for their upcoming unannounced Halo game. The postings also confirm a new team dedicated to the Halo universe grinding the cogs to fit in the legacy left by Bungie which now moves onto different projects. The advertisements squeal a number of changes that players might encounter, since they niftily boast of “breath(ing) a fresh vision into a new Halo experience” which aims to “drive the future of Halo.”

Since this will be a freshly coined studio at work, the question that remains poised in our minds is whether they shall actually release the next Halo project on the 360, in the view of the fact of rumors of Gearbox Studios being already hard at work building up an experience that is based on one of the most successful first person shooter franchises which somehow also translates into the world of Halo.

So guys if you think you fit the mark send in your resumes and give us an addition to the deadly and menacing Halo franchise.

Why Capcom Bet 360, And Not PS3 Or Wii

Sure, these days Capcom are true multiplatform developers, but for a while they, they were leaning 360. Dead Rising, Lost Planet, both were originally 360-only. So why did a Japanese developer make that call?

Capcom talisman Keiji Inafune - the creator of Mega Man, Onimusha and Dead Rising - explains that, despite a lot of internal pressure to avoid doing so, he felt that releasing games on the 360 was the best way the company could go about achieving healthy sales outside of Japan:
I think I can only get away with saying this now, but I really thought that the using the Xbox was only way to break into overseas markets, and I took that hypothesis all the way. In the end, I am very happy that I did so.
Considering both Dead Rising and Lost Planet sold over a million units early on in the 360's ifetime sales, and both were Capcom's first truly successful games aimed specifically at a non-Japanese audience, we're inclined to agree. And anyway, it's not like it matters these days. Capcom would port Lost Planet to the 3DO if they could. :cwm27:

MS Continues to Build Internal Halo Team

Lead designer on new project wanted.

Microsoft has posted a job opening for a lead designer on a new Xbox 360 title. That wouldn't normally be newsworthy, but the job details list this one as a Halo project. Microsoft has confirmed to us that this hire will work on the internal Halo team that was created last year to work on new Halo projects and support existing ones. This person will join a team of industry veterans, including people who have worked at id Software, Gearbox, Bungie, and Kojima Productions.

The posting opens with the following description of the employment opportunity:
Microsoft Game Studios' Halo team is looking for a strong Lead Designer to help develop a new experience in the Halo universe. This is your chance to contribute to one of the most exciting and creative properties in the entertainment industry.
No specifics are given on what type of game this new Halo experience might be, but past rumors and speculation have pegged it as everything from the Peter Jackson Halo project to a totally new Halo game that hasn't been announced yet.

Rumor: Microsoft's SKU Change Up May Be Different Than Expected

The rumors have been flying around about Microsoft getting rid of the Elite SKU model of their XBOX 360 product line, but where does that leave the other two SKU's?

It's rumored (we have HIGHLY honored sources) that the Pro and Arcade models will be getting upgrades as well as the Elite being used STRICTLY for Limited Edition situations, like the red bundle being released on March 13th. Here are two rumors being tossed around from our sources:

  1. Arcade Model: Will stay the same except getting more internal memory from 256MB to 512MB and getting the chrome disk drive instead of the matte. Pricing will stay the same for now.
  2. Arcade Model: 20GB hard drive will be included as well as the 256MB of internal memory. This will allow for easier swapping and backup options. Included game will change and prices will stay the same.
  3. Pro Model: 80 or 120GB hard drive upgrade with addition of 256MB of internal memory for same reasons as Arcade. Included games will change and HDMI cable will be included. Price may drop from 299.99 to 279.99.
Future limited edition models will include themed console with matching controller, 180GB or 200GB hard drive, whatever included game and a price of $379.99 to 399.99. Disk drive color will also receive a "situational" change. All Elite accessories will still be included as well as a possible wireless headset upgrade.

These are just rumors, BUT let us remind you that the sources are good. We believe that at least some of the previously mentioned changes will occur. Possibly even mixing and matching and a little bit from here and there.

MS gaming chief on Xbox in 2009

VideoGamer.com: Moving on to 1 vs. 100, is that the beginning of a commitment from Microsoft to bring similar social-focused games to the Xbox 360?

SM: We'll get 1 versus 100 out of the way first! We're only just starting to tease about what we're going to do there. I think we'll answer that one in the fullness of time. It's a little way away yet before we launch that one. It's great to show a little bit more about what we're trying to do with that whole interactive entertainment thing, bringing TV games into real fun entertainment in the living room with mates.

VideoGamer.com: I wanted to ask you about the Xbox 360's line-up in terms of exclusives. Some fans have expressed concern over the number of 360 exclusives that are coming out this year versus previous years. We've had Halo Wars and we're going to have Halo 3: ODST. Can 360 owners expect exclusives on a similar level in 2009 to what they've enjoyed in the last couple of years?

SM: Yes and yes! The word exclusive is an interesting term. Have we got exclusive content as far as game add-on goes? In many cases yes. Have we got exclusive games coming out on our platform that you know about? Yes. Obviously you know some of our games that we've got from Microsoft Game Studios, you know some of the games that are coming out from third-parties. I'm pretty sure you don't know all the games that are coming out from both us or third parties. I hope we surprise people, but I feel very confident in our catalogue of products that we've got coming out from our own stable and from third-parties in 2009 and beyond. When I look at just 2009 I feel very good going into the summer through to Christmas this year.

VideoGamer.com: What's the latest on Alan Wake?

SM:There's been a few teasers recently. That's all we're saying right now. We're just teasing things a little bit. When the development team are ready to take the lid off they'll take the lid off. >(

VideoGamer.com: Has the 360-exclusive GTA 4 DLC met expectations in terms of how many people have downloaded it?

SM:Yeah absolutely. It's an amazing game and it's an amazing add-on experience. It's incredibly deep. We're obviously very excited, they're very excited about it. I think Rockstar will in the fullness of time be able to talk about numbers and stuff. It's only been a few days. When you look at the retail numbers, there's been a good uplift in sales of the original full-priced game in retail, which I think from a retailer point of view is a good thing. People are obviously more engaged this week in the whole GTA franchise than they were two weeks ago. It's great for them, great for us, great for our partners. As far as numbers go I'm sure they will release those in the fullness of time.

Noticias relacionadas com a GDC, que esta a porta!

Molyneux: GDC will show what’s “really coming up”
We’re pumped. Peter Molyneux reafirmed at the BAFTAs last night that you should be watching GDC closely if you want to know what the UK dev legend’s up to next.

“Naming a particular game before it’s out is a difficult thing. And I’ll tell you why, because in two weeks I’m about to fly out to America for the Gamers’ Development Conference and that’s the time when you start to see what’s really coming up,” he told the BBC.

“I know some of the things behind the scenes that are going on but it’d be really inappropriate to talk about them. But I can say there’s some exciting things on the way. What you think of as video games is changing and changing fast.”

Jonathan Ross may have let a kitten out of a bag last night by saying he’s going to voice a part in Fable III, but don’t be fooled into thinking this is all Six Gun Pete’s got to talk about at the show. No sir.

GDC runs from March 23-27.

Wossy” mentions Fable III, people get excited
Jonathan Ross mentioned he’d been asked to add his voice to Fable III, via Twitter, following the BAFTAs last night.
# Goodnight all. Must go to bed. Got asked to do voice in Fable 3 tonight. Subarashi. Oyasuminasia. Woss out. about 7 hours ago from web
Fable III’s unconfirmed as yet, but maybe Big Pete will have something to say on the matter at GDC later this month.

And seriously, Twitter? Just **** off. You make us feel ill.

David Jones to keynote Develop 2009
Realtime Worlds boss David Jones it to keynote UK conference Develop this summer, as confirmed on the official site.
Jones created GTA and Lemmings, and is currently overseeing APB’s development. As far as cheeses go, he’s pretty big.

“Develop is the most prestigious development conference in the UK, and I’m looking forward to coming to Brighton as it’s a great opportunity to share some of my experiences of making games - both good and not so good - plus tell a few of the Realtime World’s stories to my fellow developers,” commented Jones.

More through the link. Develop runs from July 14-16 this year, and is well worth the trip.
