GoldenEye 007 XBLA remains cancelled
Microsoft says it, no matter what you read out there
Breaking news!
GoldenEye 007 was in development for Xbox Live Arcade. Even more breaking news! The project was recently cancelled. We know. It’s even less funnier than playing
Assassin’s Creed for five hours. But some people seem to actually think that those stories are a big scoop. Otherwise, there is no way to understand all the hype around one simple screenshot revealed by Computer and Videogames today, after a long and dramatic delay of several days during which they have been gradually unveiling little portions of the same picture while asking their readers what it could be.
Well, it is
GoldenEye 007. It was obvious since day one. So what? It’s not like we have never seen a screenshot of
GoldenEye 007 for XBLA. There has been a massive amount of information about that game raining without stop for the last month and a half. There have been plenty of data and even a long length video online. And the first screenshot was actually leaked on November 2007, as soon as Microsoft cancelled the game. Yes, cancelled, as it remains today.
Apparently everything started because of a news article published on the British magazine Xbox World 360. These people say they have played the game, they offer hands-on impressions, a bunch of new screenshots and, basically, according to CVG, they
“tell us all.” The rhetoric questions that they throw around are things like
“how different it is?”,
“what improvements have been made?” and
“what does it feel in the 360 pad?” Welcome to the year 2008, people. We all know the answers for all that since mid January at least.
Still, just in case they try to make users believe that this game is going to come out next month, here is an official statement from Microsoft and Rare about the issue:
“The story planned by Xbox World 360 is based entirely on rumor and speculation. Unfortunately, we were never contacted by the publication to confirm information or participate in the story in any way, as we would have confirmed there are no plans to release GoldenEye 007 on Xbox LIVE Arcade.”
So, it’s been fun to talk about it for a while. But it is what it is.
