Xiaomi Smart Band 7 Pro unveiled

Xiaomi launched the Smart Band 7 in March in China and then rolled it globally in June. Today, the company followed it up with the Pro model, which packs a 1.64" rectangular AMOLED color touchscreen with support for more than 150 in-app watch faces.

The Xiaomi Smart Band 7 Pro's display has a 486x280-pixel resolution and a pixel density of 326 ppi. The screen's peak brightness is 500 nits, and it comes with an auto-brightness feature for a more convenient viewing experience. The display is also covered with tempered glass having an anti-fingerprint coating.

The wearable also supports more than 110 sports modes and even has an on-wrist running coach feature that offers 10 pre-planned running courses at different levels, such as run/walk combos for beginners or fat burn/endurance-focused training. There's also interval training for strengthening heart/lung health.

The Smart Band 7 Pro has a built-in GNSS system, allowing users to track the routes without requiring a smartphone. Besides, the Smart Band 7 Pro is water-resistant up to 5ATM, so you don't have to take it off your wrist when going for a shower or swimming.

Xiaomi Smart Band 7 debuts globally

Nearly a month after its debut in China, Xiaomi brought the Smart Band 7 version of its popular Band saeries to the global market.

The new model brings the largest screen yet for a Xiaomi Smart Band at 1.62-inches. The AMOLED panel carries 490x192px resolution and now supports Always-on Display (AOD) which was not available on its predecessor. Another neat new feature is the automatic SpO2 tracking which will notify you if your blood oxygen level drops below 90%.

Smart Band 7 retains the 14-day rated battery life and charges via the same two-pin magnetic charger. Mi Band 7 comes with over 100 watch faces and 110+ sports modes with auto-detection. On the health tracking side, you get 24/7 heart rate measurements as well as sleep and stress tracking alongside female health tracking. The smartband is 5ATM water-resistant and can track your swims without any hassle.

The NFC version of the Smart Band 7 will remain exclusive to China for now though rumors suggest it will eventually make its way to global markets later in collaboration with Mastercard. Xiaomi also revealed it sold over 1 million Smart Band 7 units in China which is a new record.

The AMOLED display of the Xiaomi Mi Band 7 Pro has 326ppi “retina level” pixel density. The extra surface area offers more room to display health data and notifications. It has 280 x 456px resolution, compared to 192 x 490px on the regular Mi Band 7 (16:9 vs. 25.5:10) and 320 x 360px for the Redmi Band 7 Pro.

The other key advantage of the Pro is the built in GPS receiver. Actually, it supports GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, Beidou and QZSS.

Going back to the display, another improvement over the vanilla band is the ambient light sensor, which enables automatic brightness. Always On Display mode is available as well. Xiaomi also designed 180+ new watch faces for the new band.

Further customization are available through a rainbow of wrist bands. There are 6 classic colors to choose from, which cost CNY 39 ($7.3/€7), plus two special options with a leather texture – Van Gogh Green and Monet Grey (both CNY 59 or $8.8/€8.4).

The Mi Band 7 Pro has all-day heart rate and blood-oxygen tracking. It will buzz if it senses that your SpO2 levels are too low. Advanced sleep monitoring is available as well, tracking the three stages: light, deep and REM sleep.

The band comes with 117 exercise modes, including 10 running courses. Among them are interval running courses for a couple of skill levels, Moderate-Intensity Interval Training (MIIT), aerobic endurance training and more. You can challenge your friends to gamify staying healthy by winning medals for daily steps taken, calories burned or other readings.

Additionally, the band is rated for 5ATM water resistance, so you can take it swimming in the pool. With a 235mAh battery, the band is expected to last 12 days of regular usage or 6 days of heavy usage, charging time is about an hour.

Xiaomi unveils Mi Band 7

Today, Xiaomi unveiled the Mi Band 7, alongside the Redmi Buds 4 and Redmi Buds 4 Pro. Xiaomi had confirmed the announcement date of the Mi Band 7, and it had already become available for reservation, albeit without a price.

The Mi Band 7's biggest update is the larger display – 1.62”, up from 1.56”. The resolution is 490x192px, and there's finally an option to keep the display always on. Xiaomi claims that the usable screen area has been increased by 25%. SpO2 - or oxygen saturation - monitoring is improved - if the band reads a saturation below 90%, it will vibrate to let you know.

Fitness tracking is also better with a total of 120 training modes, four professional sports modes, automatic workout detection, an option to hold competitions with friends, and more.

Xiaomi says the Mi Band 7's 180mAh battery should last 14 days, but we'd expect that's without the always-on mode. Charging the band back up takes 2 hours.

The Xiaomi Mi Band 7 will start from CNY 239 and it's officially on pre-order from today. The NFC model, which supports payments to AliPay, will cost slightly more.

Xiaomi Smart Band 7 could have Always On Display, GPS, smart alarm and more

The Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 6 was announced at the end of March last year and featured several major upgrades, including a larger display and SpO2 tracking. It’s March again and a detailed leak reveals what to expect from the new model. Note that this info was dug out from an early firmware for the band (found in the Zepp app) and the final product may be different.

Let’s start with the display. Version 6 has a 1.56” pill-shaped display with 152 x 486 px resolution (that’s 326 ppi pixel density). The new model, the Xiaomi Smart Band 7 will have a 192 x 490 px resolution. Note that the vertical resolution is essentially the same, but the horizontal one is larger – this suggests a wider display. We expect that the pixel density will remain the same since it’s that magic "Retina resolution" number.

Also, some watch faces have an Always On version that shows the time. AOD is one of the advantages of Xiaomi smartwatches over the bands, in no small part because it puts a strain on the battery. A wider band may fit a bigger battery, but not enough to offset the drain of AOD. Still, it’s great to have the option.

GPS is another major feature that’s missing from the Xiaomi bands (some competing bands do have it), current bands rely on your smartphone to get positioning data. The Smart Band 7 may support GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou. “May support” since the Mi Band 5 Pro (which was supposed to have GPS) was canceled. If version 7 does have positioning, it will offer several modes: All Satellites (more accurate, more power hungry) or GPS + one other constellation (less accurate, but needs less power).

Going back to the battery, there will be a couple of power saving modes, which will deactivate some features. One of the modes will keep only the step counter and basic sleep tracking running in the background. The Mi Smart Band 6 offered 15 days of battery life, the 7 will probably target 15 days as well.

Another feature mentioned in the leak is Smart Alarm, which waits for you to enter light sleep before waking you up. This feature was available on the original band but was removed and hasn’t been seen in subsequent versions.

There’s no mention of NFC, Xiaomi typically offers that in a separate version of its bands (available in China and usually released globally as well).

Mi Band 7 will adopt the familiar pill-shaped design of its predecessors but with a 1.62-inch AMOLED screen up from the 1.56-inch size on the outgoing Mi Band 6. The larger panel will allow for more watch complications on the watch screen which should be easier to read than on past models. It will be interesting to see how the larger screen impacts the overall form factor of the band.

The new teasers also detail the presence of NFC which will most likely be market-dependent yet again. Other features include heart rate, blood oxygen and exercise data measurements as well as the usual mix of built-in apps for weather, music controls and alarms.

Band 7 "engordou"
