SEGA has announced the 'Bonds' system for Yakuza 7: Hikari to Yami no Yukue (AKA Yakuza: Like A Dragon), a game mechanic that will enable Ichiban Kasuga to develop friendships that in turn will grant various benefits, like new skills, powerful team attacks, and other helpful battle abilities.
Spending time with Kasuga's friends will involve visiting 'Play Spots' to enjoy certain activities, like watching a movie together at the Traditional Movie Theater or eating and enjoying some 'Table Talk' at one of Yokohama's many restaurants. As you deepen your bonds with friends, you'll access side stories called 'Bond Dramas'.
Rather than featuring Daniel Craig, these Bond Dramas will actually see Kasuga getting to the root of each friend's 'true nature', as they put their trust in you and open up. Bond Dramas will reveal the secret pasts, hopes, and fears of each of Kasugas friends, with worries that can then be resolved, developing their abilities "in a major way".
Resolving Bond Dramas will unlock powerful team attacks called 'Bond Skills' that vary from character to character, and are formidable enough to cut even the most fearsome of enemies down to size. Enhancing friend abilities will also enable them to change jobs, learn new skills themselves, and follow-up Kasuga's attacks.
Yakuza 7 will be launching in Japan on 16th January 2020, before heading west later in the year. Check out some new screenshots showcasing the game's Bonds system below.
Sega will release a demo for Yakuza: Like a Dragon, producer Masayoshi Yokoyama told Famitsu in a newly published interview. A release date was not announced.
The demo’s live command battle contents will be an upgrade from the version shown at Tokyo Game Show 2019, offering battle action nearly identical to what the final product will feature when it launches.
