Zune HD is official, heading your way this Fall

That's right folks, the Zune HD is real, and it's coming this Fall. Microsoft officially announced the next iteration in their Zune line today, making it less of a tripped out pipe dream, and more of a totally tubular reality. The specs, which look exactly like that leak we saw, go like this: 3.3-inch, 480 x 272 OLED capacitive touchscreen display, built-in HD Radio receiver, HD output (utilizing a new dock -- not on-board), and... not much more right now. Microsoft is doing away with the famed squircle in favor a full multitouch device, and they seemed to indicate that some new touch-friendly apps and games would be headed our way, though they were fairly mum when it came to details. The device will boast an IE-based, customized browser, but little else was said in the way of software.

Details are also scarce concerning storage capacities, CPU performance, and other crucial numbers, but it seems like they've got more in store come E3... and that's the next big piece of news. Zune integration is coming to the Xbox and Xbox Live, as the Zune marketplace will step in to replace the current Live video resources, expanding the library and offering all kinds of new perks, like Zune's first foray into international waters. According to the company, at E3 "attendees will see first-hand how Zune integrates into Xbox LIVE creating a game-changing entertainment experience" -- we're not entirely sure what the means right now, but it sounds sweet. Try to contain your excitement.

Microsoft's Zune HD steps into the limelight

It appears that all the rumors and pictures from the last month regarding the Zune HD were right. Microsoft last night announced its next generation Zune and it appears that the boys from Redmond are finally ready to start taking the fight to Apple's iPod touch.
The angular device packs a 3.3" 16:9 OLED display with a resolution of just 480 x 272. Thankfully, the touchscreen includes multi-touch which currently resides on such devices as the Apple iPhone, iPod touch, and Palm Pre. The Zune HD also brings with it HD radio and is capable of 720p video-out via HDMI with a docking station.
The only other hardware detail that Microsoft announced was the inclusion of Wi-Fi which has always been a Zune staple. In this case, however, a full-screen multi-touch web browser will also be included (and hopefully an email client and various other internet-based utilities).
Microsoft didn't divulge any information on storage capacities for the new Zune HD, but earlier reports pegged the devices launching in 16GB and 32GB capacities. Hopefully, this isn't the case as Apple is near certain to release its next generation iPod touch early this fall in capacities of up to 64GB which would leave the Zune HD trailing behind.
"The Zune music player is an integral part of the overall Zune experience, and we're proud to be growing and extending our offering beyond the device," said Enrique Rodriguez, corporate vice president of the Microsoft TV, Video and Music Business Group. "Delivering on Microsoft's connected entertainment vision, this news marks a turning point for Zune as it brings cross-platform experiences and premium video content to living rooms around the world."
Microsoft's first and second attempts at taking on Apple with its Zune range didn't do much to challenge the iPod's dominance of the marketplace. However, Microsoft appears to have a real chance of scoring some major points with consumers with the Zune HD -- that is if they can manage to keep storage capacities at a lofty level.
The Zune HD will launch this fall.

Pergunto-me onde estará a lógica de fazer um equipamento destes sem a funcionalidade de telefone? Parece um telefone, mas sem telefone..:rolleyes:
Parece-se com um HTC topaz.

Porque há pessoas, como eu, que querem um dispositivo sem ser telefone, para poderem ter as coisas separadas. É que um telemóvel gasta muita bateria e além disso, um produto especializado em algo consegue ser melhor no que faz do que aqueles que fazem tudo, so que não fazem nada de jeito.

Isto. Já experimentei o mp3 + telefone, mas no fim do dia o que acaba por acontecer é que ou não oiço musica ou fico sem bateria.

Dado que ficar sem bateria a meio do dia é muito mau para mim, ter 8 GB de música no telemóvel acabam por servir para muito pouco.

Ok. Tenho que concordar que ouvir música no telemóvel gasta mais bateria, mas hoje em dia quando uma grande percentagem deles carregam por USB, deixa de fazer sentido. Em qualquer lado onde estejas, há ligações USB que podes usar para carrega-lo.

Por outro lado, imagino-te a passear no verão com um t-shirt sem bolsos e com a carteira, telemóvel e o leitor de música (do mesmo tamanho do telemóvel) em cada mão. Bonito cenário, ein?
 
Ou é de mim, as pessoas já andam todas tolas com o zune e, estou mesmo para ver uns tempos antes do lançamento lá vir a noticia de que afinal até é telemóvel...

E até a barraca abana!

E grande percentagem deles permitem-me tirar todo o partido dos meus Sennheiser? I think not...
 
Esse :offtopic: escapou-me. Não se usa oculos de sol no Inverno nem auriculares no Verão? Penso que sim em ambos os casos.
 
Continuam com a mesma ideia de não os comercializarem na europa ? É que é inadmissivel um produto destes nao ser comercializado cá, até que era rapaz para o comprar no estrangeiro mas ficar sem ele durante "um ano" por causa de shipping's e garantias ...
