Isto não é nada de concreto, mas o Charlie do Semiaccurate tem uma noticia com paywall sobre o cancelamento de "algo" na Qualcomm e o texto tem umas pistas que talvez indiquem que pode ser o programa de SOCs para PCs.

Como referi no inicio, nada de concreto, mas pessoalmente, fico a pensar se o Programa de SOCs para PCs, da Qualcomm, não terá sido cancelado.
Veremos, até porque isso teria consequências para a Microsoft, visto o Windows on ARM, actualmente, só ser suportado em chips Qualcomm.
 
Mas o Cristiano não tinha dito que pretendia usar o IP da Nuvio também para os SoC mobile? Ou isso já se está a referir aos SoC com esse core ARM custom?

Mas o Cristiano não tinha dito que pretendia usar o IP da Nuvio também para os SoC mobile? Ou isso já se está a referir aos SoC com esse core ARM custom?
Aquilo é uma interpretação minha, do pouco que se vê da noticia e pode estar totalmente errada ou demasiado "alargada". :)
Pode estar errada e não ser nenhum programa relacionado com a compra da Nuvia ou pode ser uma interpretação demasiado "alargada", porque em relação à Nuvia, fala-se de SOCs para PCs, Mobile e houve até rumores de uma possível reentrada da Qualcomm no mercado servidor com SOCs da Nuvia. Pode ser que só um destes programas tenha sido cancelado. :)

Veremos. Eu estou um bocado pessimista em relação à Qualcomm no mercado PC.

Eu diria antes que seria o mercado server que está inundado actualmente de outras ofertas. Duvido que deixem cair o mercado pc.

Acho estranho os valores da Cache L2 e não faço ideia o que sejam aqueles 12 MB de "System Level Cache". Esperava ver um iGPU novo e não o mesmo do 8cx Gen2. De resto, não vejo nada de errado nestas specs gerais.

Meh! usando os cores de referência da ARM jamais será concorrência aos apple M.
Se fosse finalmente com os designs da Nuvia ainda teria esperança mas assim esquece.
 
Mais alguns rumores sobre os "8cx Gen4" (Os que têm cores da ex-Nuvia):
  • Versões com 12 cores (SC8380 and SC8380XP), 10 Cores (SC8370 and SC8370XP) e 8 Cores (SC8350 and SC8350X). O numero de Little Cores mantém-se nos 4 nas diferentes versões. Os Cores que são reduzidos são os Big Cores.
  • Segmentação em vários SKUs com Clocks diferentes.
  • Apresentação em Outubro. Primeiros PCs no mercado no inicio de 2024.

Qualcomm Snapdragon X series unveiled with Oryon CPUs to rival Apple M SoCs​

Qualcomm has presented initial details about Snapdragon X, its new chipset series aimed at the PC industry. Built around next-generation Oryon CPUs, Snapdragon X is being billed as a 'quantum leap forward in performance and power efficiency', thereby challenging current alternatives from the Apple M, AMD Ryzen and Intel Core series.
In short, Qualcomm is holding almost all details about the Snapdragon X series back for now, including its logo.

The same applies to concrete details about its forthcoming processors. Unsurprisingly, it will wait until this year's Snapdragon Summit, which will run between October 24 and October 26 in Hawaii. Nonetheless, Qualcomm has outlined that it will deliver inaugural Snapdragon X processors in 2024.

Qualcomm is releasing a new AI super-charged platform called the Snapdragon X Elite that aims to revolutionize the PC landscape with faster CPU performance (up to 2 times vs. competitors) at just one-third of the power consumption. The company’s latest top-of-the-range CPU, Qualcomm Orion, makes this possible.
Based on a 4nm architecture, the CPU has 12 high-performance cores clocked at 3.8GHz, with a dual-core boost of 4.3GHz. The memory is LPDDR5x with 42MB of total cache and 136 GB/s memory bandwidth. This combo promises 50% better multi-thread performance than ARM-based competitors. Exclusive: Nvidia to make Arm-based PC chips in major new challenge to Intel​


Nvidia has quietly begun designing central processing units (CPUs) that would run Microsoft’s (MSFT.O) Windows operating system and use technology from Arm Holdings(O9Ty.F), , two people familiar with the matter told Reuters.

The AI chip giant's new pursuit is part of Microsoft's effort to help chip companies build Arm-based processors for Windows PCs.
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD.O) also plans to make chips for PCs with Arm technology, according to two people familiar with the matter.

Nvidia and AMD could sell PC chips as soon as 2025, one of the people familiar with the matter said. Nvidia and AMD would join Qualcomm (QCOM.O), which has been making Arm-based chips for laptops since 2016.

Microsoft granted Qualcomm an exclusivity arrangement to develop Windows-compatible chips until 2024, according to two sources familiar with the matter.
Microsoft has encouraged others to enter the market once that exclusivity deal expires, the two sources told Reuters.
Temos aqui a data do fim da exclusividade da Qualcomm. Também parece ser a Microsoft que está a puxar pelo mercado, para produzirem SOCs ARM para o mercado consumidor.

The move would attack Intel’s home turf at a difficult time for the pioneer of PC processors. Under Chief Executive Officer Pat Gelsinger, Intel has been fighting to regain market share and its technological edge. The addition of Nvidia and AMD to a field that includes Apple and Qualcomm only adds to its challenges.
And then there’s AMD. Under CEO Lisa Su, that company has shed its longtime reputation as a low-budget competitor to Intel and delivered several generations of products that have won market share. AMD had previously said it would consider Arm-based products but shelved that effort. More recently, Su has said that the company would produce custom products with combinations of technology, including Arm, if asked by customers.
Like Nvidia’s PC chips, Arm’s Arm-based processors could go on sale as early as 2025, people familiar with the matter said.

Fico com a sensação que, pelo menos inicialmente, a AMD pode criar CPUs ARM para o mercado consumidor, mas para alguém que pague o seu desenvolvimento e não directamente.

EDIT: Se fosse a Qualcomm ou qualquer outra empresa que queira entrar no mercado ARM, não me focaria apenas no mercado mobile de portáteis ultra-leves e daria bastante importância ao mercado de Mini PCs, com SOCs com TDPs mais elevados (15 a 35W).
O mercado de Mini-PCs é capaz de ser bem maior que o de portáteis ultra-leves, especialmente se se tiver em consideração o potencial de ir "comer" mercado a Desktops de maior dimensão.
