THQ Nordic revealed BioMutant, an “open-world, post-apocalyptic kung fu fable,” for PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One this week. The game is in development at Stockholm, Sweden-based Experiment 101, a studio founded by former Avalanche Studios creative director Stefan Ljungqvist. It sounds ambitious.
According to the game’s official website, BioMutant will let players “change their character’s abilities and appearance with powerful mutations, bionic prosthetics and weapons.” While the main character appears to be a ragged, raccoon-like creature in the game’s artwork, players will be able to genetically modify their character with claws, barbed tails and wings. Players can even earn “psi-mutations” like telekinesis and levitation or add robotic limbs.
Players will also be able to wield an array of weapons like swords and custom firearms, but it may be your character’s martial arts prowess that serves as their deadliest weapon.
