Huawei unveils nova 5, nova 5 Pro and nova 5i
Huawei is having a massive announcement today in China with plenty of devices to unveil. The stars of the show are the three nova 5 smartphones - the Huawei nova 5 Pro with Kirin 980, Huawei nova 5 with Kirin 810 and Huawei nova 5i.
Huawei nova 5 Pro
This phone is definitely the star of the family - an OLED panel, fancy colors and an under-display fingerprint scanner. The display is 6.39" in diagonal and comes with Full HD+ resolution and a waterdrop notch for the 32 MP selfie shooter.
The back has four cameras - a 48 MP main shooter, 16 MP wide-angle lens, 2 MP depth sensor, and 2 MP macro camera.
The phone has the flagship Kirin 980 chipset with 8 GB RAM, while storage is 128 GB or 256 GB. The nova 5 Pro is equipped with a 40W Huawei SuperCharge for its 4,000 mAh battery. Prices start at CNY2,999 ($435/€385) for the 8/128 GB variant, while the 8/256 GB costs CNY3,399 ($500/€440).
A fancier version is called Huawei nova 5 Pro Limited Edition and costs CNY3,799 ($550/€490), but comes with special purple FreeLace earphones in the retail box.
Pre-orders for the nova 5 Pro are already available at *****.com, with shipping scheduled for June 28.
Huawei nova 5
The Huawei nova 5 is the first phone to arrive with Huawei's new Kirin 810 chipset. In fact, its launch is scheduled for mid-July as manufacturing that requires more time. It has two Cortex-A76 powerful cores running at 2.27GHz, six efficient Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.88GHz and a Mali-G52 MP6 GPU.
Other than that the nova 5 is identical to the nova 5 Pro - you get the same notched OLED at the front and an identical quad camera at the back.
There is only one memory option, though - 8/128 GB and it costs CNY2,999 ($435/€385).

The Huawei nova 5i has a decidedly less exciting chipset than the other two - Kirin 710 chipset. It does stand out with its punch hole camera design, though.
The fingerprint scanner is on the back, next to the four cameras - 24 MP main + 8 MP wide-angle + 2 MP depth sensor and 2 MP macro lens. Here the memory options are 6GB + 128GB or 8GB + 128GB.
The battery capacity is again 4,000 mAh, but unlike the nova 5 and nova 5 Pro, it supports the standard 18W fast-charging that Huawei has been implementing in midrange devices for the past few years.
Coming in three colors - Black, Amber Red, Sea Blue - the phone costs CNY1,999 ($290/€260) or CNY2,199 ($320/€280), depending on the memory you select. Shipping will begin in exactly seven days.
During the event Huawei boasted that it managed to sell 100 million smartphones in the first five months of the year, marking this the fastest it was able to reach the nine-digit milestone.
There are still plenty of uncertainties whether the company will replicate its 200 million success from 2018 - the executives on stage did not say anything about future plans, as expected.
They also did not say even a word about the OS, even if all the phones have an upgraded EMUI 9.1, obviously based on Android Pie.
