The people at Jon Peddie Research have again toiled into the night and crunched all the numbers they could find to determine what has happened in the graphics chip market in the fourth quarter of 2007. Their results show that some 106.4 million chips have been shipped during this period, this translating in a 27% increase over Q4 2006 when 'only' 83.5 million units were delivered.

The last three months of 2007 have again seen Intel, with its integrated chips take the top spot and account for 43.5% of the market. While Intel sold 43.7 million sold chips and increased its market share by 3% on-year, Nvidia reached a 33.6% share due to its 33.8 million sold chips and again kicked AMD's soft parts. Although its RV670 cards have been met with enthusiast the company's graphics division has sold only 18.6 million chips and saw its market share drop from 23% in Q4 06 to 18.3% this past quarter.

To conclude, Dr. Jon Peddie, president of Jon Peddie Research has stated that "The fourth quarter of 2007 was seasonally good, and saw significantly greater sequential growth from the third quarter compared to last year. This is especially interesting since Q3 2007 was so good." As for 2008 though, things are not expected to be as 'good' with market growth set to be lower than in 2007.
